He had been a resident of the Redondo community since 1899 and had served as Postmaster for the community for 33 years. Failing health caused him to resign from post office work a year ago. Born June 22, 1854 in Schenectady, New York, he early moved with his parents to Wisconsin. From there the family moved to Kansas where he lived until he came to Redondo 39 years ago.

Survived by his widow, Ida M. Hurd of Redondo; son, Wilmer C. Hurd and daughter, Alice M. Brengman, Redondo; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Hurd were held Wednesday afternoon from Chittenden Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rodney Arney of Kent officiating. Burial was made in the Sumner Cemetery.
