Panek, Raymond  (Aug 11, 1898-Nov 6, 1902; s/o Frank & Mary)  See also History of the Big Bend, 1904, item on Frank Panek: Frank Panek was born in Aug 1863 in Bohemia, the son of John and Frances (Trogan) Panek. Frank worked for the railroad before he began farming. He was on a farm in Fremont County, Idaho until 1901. On Nov 17, 1897 he married Mary Ledvina, the daughter of Joseph and Antoine (Wesley) Ledvina. Mary had one daughter by a previous marriage, Lucy. Frank and Mary had three children prior to the 1904 writing: Victor O, Raymond V (deceased) and Olga A (deceased by 1904). On both the 1900 and 1910 census, Frank Panek is shown on the Market Lake, Fremont Co, Idaho census, with his wife and family. Raymond is shown on the 1900, and only Victor on the 1910. Olga was apparently born between the 1900 census and the 1904 publication. One might assume that the burial of Olga took place in Market Lake vicinity, Fremont Co, Idaho.

Mrs Rathke, who passed away Tuesday at her home in Edwall, from a paralytic stroke, is survived by five daughters: Mrs Fred Brockob and Mrs Hulda Wendlant, both of Edwall, Mrs Bertha Beck and Mrs Laura Schlegel, both of California, and Mrs Paulina Brockob of Minnesota; three sons: John H and Julias of Edwall and Emil of Deer Park; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Louisa Lucht was born in Germany where she was married to John Rathke, emigrating immediately to the United States. The wedding trip across the briny deep was an experience never to be forgotten. The Atlantic Ocean was rough and they were six weeks coming across. They located on a homestead in Minnesota and pioneered in Minnesota, a sparsely settled country at that time. It became known by the housewives in their neighborhood that Mrs Rathke owned three sewing needles, brought with her from Germany, and she was the envy of the neighborhood. They were valued possessions, and worth their weight in gold, for the neighbors for miles around came to borrow them. They never sent their children to get them, always coming themselves. These needles were too precious to be entrusted to the carelessness of youth. The Rathkes spent 34 years of their wedded life in Minnesota before coming to Edwall. Mrs Rathke was preceded in death by her husband on Sept 20, 1921, and she lacked but one day of passing away on the same day of the month as did her husband. Her demise occurred Tuesday, Sept 19th. Mrs Rathke was a grand old lady, a wonderful mother, and reared a family of loyal American citizens in the land of her adoption.” (Citizen: 9-29-1933)  “Louisa Rathke.
