Two boys, Bernard Tarbert, 11, and Raymond Tarbert, 13, found the body. County officers were called and the body was identified by papers in a billfold. There was about $65 in the wallet. No inquest was held. Clements left the Best nursing home there June 23 for a short visit in town, and never was seen again. A search was made here and at other communities where he had lived, Grant County officers also searching. As he was known to have money in his possession, it was feared he might have met with foul play." (Odessa Record: 11-13-1947)

Corcoran, Daniel; ( d. Mar 24, 1936) 20/2

“When Wilbur City Marshal Frank Stookey went to the jail on Monday night to let a transient in for a requested night’s lodging he found another transient dead in one of the cell beds. The man dead came to Wilbur Friday night and asked to sleep in the jail. After buying a magazine he went to the cell with Mr. Stookey. The marshal left the jail open that night, so the man might leave Saturday. Sunday he closed the outside door but did not go into the jail, believing the lodger had left town. The man dead seemed to be about 30 years of age. He was in bed, well covered, with no sign of a struggle. Death from natural causes was the verdict of Coroner Floyd J. Underwood, Davenport. Papers found on the dead man revealed that he was Daniel Corcoran, 30, Spokane, a common laborer at the Grand Coulee dam four months, discharged April 14 because of frequent fainting spells caused by heart trouble. Funeral services were held at Wilbur, with the Rev F. S. Edes of the English Lutheran church officiating.” (Odessa Record: 4-23-1936)*

"The saddest accident that has happened in this vicinity for a long time, says the Wilbur Register, occurred at the home of Mr. & Mrs. W. B. Davies, about four miles northwest of town, in the death of their little daughter, Stella M., caused by drinking about a half ounce of carbolic acid. The house was being renovated and the acid, in moving things about, was placed on the kitchen table. The baby, about two years of age, secured the bottle and succeeded in swallowing a part of the contents before discovered. A messenger hastened for Dr. Yount, but the terrible fluid had performed its work by the time he arrived. The sufferer lingered until 9 PM. "(LCT)
