BARBEAU, Elizabeth D., age 72 of 1400 12th St., passed away Thurs., Feb. 2, (1978). A life time resident of Bellingham, she was a licensed practical nurse. Surviving are 3 sons, Donald of Steilacoom, Bruce of Lynnwood and Richard in Calif.; a brother, Harry Lee of Aberdeen; a sister, Jean Mandell of Tex. and 2 sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Lowry and Annie Lee both of Bellingham. Funeral services will be held in Veroskes Bellingham Chapel Weds. Feb. 8th at 2 p.m. followed by burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

BARBEAU, Henry "Skip" of Hoko Camp, Wash., died at Forks, Wash., Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 21, (1958) following a short illness. Mr. Barbeau was born in Bellingham, May 17, 1896, and lived in Bellingham until 18 years ago when he came to Clallam County. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Johnston of Bellingham; his step-father, Wilson Johnston; his wife, Doris Barbeau of Hoko; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Carlson of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Lurene Goodman of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Elvina Conlin of Tacoma, Mrs. Minnie Jenkins of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Juennette Baker of Germany; two brothers, George Barbeau of Sacramento, Calif., Fred Barbeau of Tacoma; three step-sisters, Mrs. Pearl Mortimore, Mrs. Marian Brown, both of Bellingham, and Mrs. Goldie Hobbs of Pomona, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. The remains lie in state at the Jones Funeral Home in Bellingham, Saturday and Sunday. Graveside services will be held Monday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m.

BARBEAU, Peter J., age 91 of Blaine passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle, Sunday, July 31, (1955) following a lingering illness. He was a Spanish-American War Veteran and a member of the Kulshan Masonic Lodge of Blaine. He is survived by his wife, Anna E., of Blaine, three sons, Donald Barbeau of Seattle, Robert of Cordova, Alaska and Franklin of St. Helens, Oregon; 6 grandchildren, two brothers, John Barbeau of San Diego, Ben of Brainerd; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 3 at 4 p.m. from the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine with Rev. Clarence Lund officiating. Cremation.

BARBEE, John S., who resided at 343 South Garden St., passed away Thursday, March 29, (1956) following a lingering illness. Mr. Barbee had resided in Bellingham for the past 30 years and was a member of the Painters Union Local No. 924. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Annetta Barbee at home; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Hogg of Honolulu, Hawaii, also several nieces and nephews. Private Christian Science services will be conducted in the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Bay View Cemetery.

BARBER, Claude J., 1534 Grant Street, passed away at a Tacoma hospital, Thursday, October 16, (1947). Mr. Barber had resided here the past forty-two years and was a retired engineer of the Northern Pacific Railway. Deceased was a member of Rising Star Lodge No. 79, I. O. O. F. and of the I. O. O. F. Encampment. Surviving relatives are Mrs. Orrin Williams, a daughter, in California, and one son, Marion, at Seaside, Ore.; one brother A. H. Ransom, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Lynn, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Nellie Jackson, of Ransom, Kansas, and Mrs. Dora Barkley, of Chicago, Ill.; also three grandchildren. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Ray S. Wagoner and officers of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Monday, October 20, at 1:30 p.m. Cremation.

BARBER, Edwin T., age 50, of 806 Union Street, Seattle, passed away in a Seattle hospital Wednesday, July 23, (1952). Mr. Barber was a machinist for the Continental Can Company in Seattle, having resided there for the past fifteen years. He had previously resided here and in Alaska. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and leaves to survive, two brothers, John and James G. Barber, both of Bellingham; three sisters, Miss Zipha Barber, of Bellingham, and Mrs. E. G. Most and Mrs. Alice Edson, both of Seattle, and numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private services will be conducted by Father W. Robert Webb, Monday, July 28, at 3 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BARBER, Elodie Rose passed away March 17, 2002 in Bellingham. She was 76, born Dec 4, 1925 in Lodi, CA to Clifford and Iris (Smithson) Herman. She is survived by her daughter, Pam and husband Dean Curtis; son Jack Barber; grandchildren Julie and husband John Barriball; Lori and husband Justin Black, Melissa and husband Don Millard; Tanya and husband Matt Powell; Tamara and husband James Atwood; and four great-grandchildren. At her request, no services will be held.

BARBER, Frank, age 88, of Rt. 3, Blaine, WA., passed away in a local rest home Thursday April 29, (1976). A resident of Blaine since 1913, he was a retired foreman and long time employee of the Morrison Lumber Mill of Blaine. He was a veteran of WWI, and a member of the Blaine American Legion and St. Ann's Catholic Church of Blaine. Surviving are two sons, Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; and Joseph of Blaine. Also 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Christian prayer services will be held in Veroske's McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine, Sunday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Monday, May 3 at 10 a.m. Burial in Blaine Cemetery under the direction of Veroske's McKinney Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Icelandic Rest Home.

BARBER, Greeley E., aged 66 years, 219 East Holly, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, October 18, (1934) after an illness of one month's duration. Mr. Barber had been a resident of Bellingham for the past eleven years and was a former member of the Jukes Studio. Aside from many friends who will mourn his passing, he leaves to survive him two sisters, Mrs. Frank A. Brown, Mrs. Isaac Hud?, one nephew, R. W. Barber, all of Manilla, Iowa, Mr. Barber's former home. He also leaves to survive him one niece residing in Illinois. The remains were shipped by the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home to Manilla, Iowa, where funeral services will be held.

BARBER, Harriett Jean, age 89 of 360 W. Pole Rd., Lynden, passed away Wed. Nov. 20, (1974) at her home. She was a member of the Bellingham Bible Chapel and is survived by her 2 sons, Norman of Lynden and Philip of Abbotsford, B.C., 2 daughters, Mrs. Ella Massey, Langley, B.C. and Mrs. Dan Clark of Lynden, 2 sisters, Mrs. Magdelene Harries and Miss Ruth Griffin both of Penticton, B.C., 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. Services Tuesday Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Gillies Funeral Home with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

BARBER, Marie, age 61, passed away at home Thursday, March 29, (1951), following a lingering illness. Mrs. Barber had been a resident of Blaine for the past 30 years. Surviving relatives include her husband, Frank, of Blaine, and two sons, Tom, in San Antonio, Texas, and Joe in Blaine; two brothers, Joe Butler, Eugene, Ore., and one brother in Italy; two sisters, one in Italy, and one in France; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. High mass will be sung Friday evening 7:30 p. m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, at 10 a.m. from the St. Anne's Catholic Church with the Father James G. Buck officiating, under the direction of the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine.

BARBER, Marion Morse, age 85, of Blaine, passed away in a Blaine rest home Tuesday, Mary 29, (1962). He had been a resident of Blaine since 1892 and had served with the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. He owned and operated a jewelry and watch repair shop in Blaine for 58 years, retiring in 1958. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Nelson of Kirkland; Mrs. Viola Generra of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Grace Henry of Seattle; also two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine, Saturday at 2 p.m., Rev. Mack Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Blaine Cemetery.

BARBER, Nancy H. L., 88, died Saturday (December 29, 1973) in a local rest home. A resident of Blaine since 1930, she was a member of the senior Citizens Center, Royal Neighbors, Rebekah Lodge, and Haynie Grange. She is survived by her friends Maude Krenz and Mable Gillie. No services were held. Cremation will take place under the direction of Veroske's Bellingham Chapel. Memorials may be made to Stafholt Nursing Home.

BARBO, Kearney, age 37, of 2518 Elm Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, October 11, (1950). Mr. Barbo had been a life resident of this community and had been a furniture refinisher and partner in the Barbo Furniture Company. Deceased had been a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and Bellingham Lodge, No. 194, B. P. O. Elks. Surviving relatives are his widow, Gladys and three daughters, Tamora, LaVonne and Sally, all at home; two brothers, George K., of Bellingham, and Carl S., of Seattle, and one sister, Mrs. Richard Burghoffer, of Bellingham. BARBO, Paul, age 82, of 2922 Birchwood Ave., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Dec. 20, (1961). A life resident of Bellingham, Mr. Barbo was a retired road construction contractor. Survivors are his widow, Mary E., at home; one son, Paul E., of Espanola, N.M.; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Thomas of Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. May Chase of San Francisco and Miss Sophia Barbo of Los Angeles; several nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Pastor Evald E. Olsenius, Friday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m., followed by cremation.

BARCARINI, Ethel B., age 75, of Blaine, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, (1957) following a brief illness. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emlie Baker of Seattle, Mrs. Gerard Franklin of New York; two brothers, Edmund in England, Alfred in Argentina, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. in the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine with the Rev. Arthur T. Munger officiating. Interment Blaine Cemetery.

BARCI, Meda C., age 79, of Rt. 3, Ferndale, passed away Monday, Oct. 20th, (1966). A resident of Whatcom County for the past 44 years, she is survived by her husband, Paul; one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Randals of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Herman of Everett and Paul Jr. of Ferndale; one brother, Charles W. Ague of Harrisburg, Pa.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 28th at 1:30 p.m., Rev. John Haygood officiating in Moles Funeral Chapel. Final resting place Woodlawn.

BARDASON, Gudrun - Funeral services for Mrs. Gudrun Bardarson were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Icelandic Free Church on Harrison Avenue. Mrs. Bardarson was 77 years of age and is survived by her husband, Sigurdur Bardarson, a daughter, Mrs. Roonie Dodd of Bellingham, and two sons, Leo B. Bardarson of Seattle, and Otto W. Bardarson of Carmel, California, four step-children and seven grandchildren. Interment was made in the Blaine cemetery and a long procession of cars filled with sorrowing friends and relatives, followed the hearse to the grave.

Gurdun Bardason, age 77 years, passed away at the family home Friday, May 5. Left to survive her are her husband, Sigurdur Bardason, a daughter, Mrs. Theo. Dodd of Bellingham, two sons, Leo B. of Seattle and Otto W. of Carmel, California, four step children and several grandchildren. Services were held Monday, May 8 at the Icelandic Free church, Rev. Albert Kristjanson, officiating. Interment occurred in the family plot at the Blaine cemetery.

BARDASON, Leo B., aged 63 years, passed away Tuesday, July 29, (1958) in Oakland, California. He is survived by his wife, Pauline at home; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Hammond of Seattle; and a sister, Mrs. Veiga Olson, also of Seattle; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tues., Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in Blaine, under the direction of the McKinney Funeral Home with Rev. A. E. Kristjannson officiating. Cremation.

BARDON, Edwin Alfred, age 81, of Acme, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Sept. 27, (1961). Mr. Bardon was a 61-year resident and was a retired shingleweaver and logger, and a member of the Shingleweaver's Union. Survivors are the widow, Rebecca; one step-son, Leo Soulis of Bellingham, one sister, Mrs. Hansina Larson of Kings Gardens, Seattle. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home, where services will be conducted by Rev. Raymond Wahl on Monday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. Final resting place, Saxon Cemetery.

BARDON, Rebecca J., age 84, formerly of Acme, passed away in a local rest home Fri. Feb. 7, (1964). Widow of the late Edwin A. Bardon, Mrs. Bardon came to Whatcom County from Michigan in 1906. She was a retired cook, having been employed by the Blue Mt. Logging Co. and the Acme Hotel. Survivors are one son, Leo Soulia; one nephew, Andy Graveline and one niece, Mrs. Louise Thompson all of Bellingham. Services will be conducted at the Jones Funeral Home by the Rev. Raymond Wahl Tuesday. February 11 at 10:00 a.m. Final resting place Saxon Cemetery.

BARDWELL, Alvilde M., age 82, of 1209 1/2 State St., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, August 18, (1957) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Bardwell came to Whatcom County in 1889 and was a charter member of the Musicians Union, also a retired professional pianist. She leaves to survive one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Cheorier, of Seattle; one step-daughter, Mrs. J. D. Morton, of Olympia; two granddaughters, Mrs. Geraldine Dickson, of Seattle, and Mrs. Elmer Hagen of Tacoma; two great-grandsons, Michael Hagen, of Tacoma, and Mark Dickson of Seattle; one brother, Rudolph Amundson, of this city, and other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 22, at 1:30 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home, with Rev. Albert Tinberg, pastor of the Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.

BARDWELL, Emma C., 90, of 1607 Grant St., passed away Sat., Feb. 5, (1966). A charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Mrs. Bardwell was a member of the 8 et 40; the Faith Lutheran Church and the St. Luke's Assistance League and was a resident of Bellingham since 1893. The family requests memorials to the Heart Fund. Survivors are one son, F. E. "Bob" Bardwell; two daughters, Mrs. G. S. Gannon and Mrs. R. D. Taylor all of Bellingham; one grandson, James B. Taylor of Portland, Ore.; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Amelia Mikesell of Bellingham. Services will be conducted at the Jones Funeral Home by Pastor E. E. BARDWELL, Irving Ransom, age 78 years, passed away in his family home at Granite Falls Wednesday, January 22, (1947). Mr. Bardwell had been a resident of Granite Falls for the past twenty-five years and formerly of Bellingham for thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Alvilde, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Morton, of Olympia, and Mrs. Ruth Chevrier, of Bellingham; three grandchildren, Mrs. Vivian Hagen, of Auburn, Mrs. Geraldine Dickson, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Frances Nida, Ocean Lake, Oregon, and five great-grandchildren. BARE, Henry H., age 62, of 1208 1/2 Eleventh Street, passed away at his home, Thursday, December 22, (1949) following a lingering illness. Mr. Bare had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 12 years; he was a retired clerk. Surviving relatives include a niece, Mrs. Alene Wright, of Seattle, and several other relatives. BARFIELD, Isabelle Frances, of Klamath Falls, Ore., passed away in that city Friday, October 27, (1950). Mrs. Barfield had been a resident of Bellingham her entire life until leaving here in 1930. Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert of Klamath Falls; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Olbrantz, and a sister, Irene Olbrantz, all of Bellingham; a brother, Dr. W. J. Olbrantz of Tacoma. BARFOOT, Edward D., age 40, of Olga, Orcas Island, passed away Tuesday, March 7, (1950) as the result of a logging accident. Mr. Barfoot had been a resident of Olga for the past 4 1/2 years, and was a member of the Orcas Island Grange. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Barfoot, three children, Edward D. Jr., Sandra Lee, and Barbara Ann, all at home, his mother, Mrs. Addie Helder, a brother Jack, and a sister Mrs. Irene Femfs, all of Olga. Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. within the Olga Community Hall, under the direction of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home. Interment, Olga Cemetery.

BARGER, John L., aged 81 years of Route 3, Ferndale, passed away Sunday, January 4, (1959) in a local hospital following a brief illness. Mr Barger had been a resident of the Ferndale community for the past 21 years. He is survived by his wife Alice, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Schneider of Irving, Alberta, two sons: Douglas of North Bend and Stanley of Everett. Two sisters Mrs. Mary Sherman and Mrs. Alice Burbridge in Iowa, two brothers, Howard in Iowa and Sam in Oregon. Six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 8 at 2 p.m. in the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale. Bishop Henry Linde, officiating assisted by Elder Percy O'Neil. BARGER, Lucy Jane, aged 76 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Olson, at Haynie at 12:30 o'clock last Thursday (July 10, 1930) morning. She had been ill for some time before her death and the end was expected. Funeral services were held at Purdy's chapel in this city Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. Kitchen of the Christian church of Vancouver, B.C., officiating, and the remains were taken to Bellingham for cremation. One daughter, Mrs. Olson, and three sons, Selah D. Barger of Pasadena, Cal., Loren W. Barger of Lancaster, N.Y., and Fred H. Barger of Vancouver, B.C., survive.

BARGEWELL, Benjamin Arthur, age 75, of 2004-E. Sunset Dr., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, May 28, (1961). A resident of Whatcom County for the past 72 years, Mr. Bargewell was a retired farmer, having farmed in Whatcom County for 24 years, worked at the Carnation Milk Co. in Everson for fourteen years and the Columbia Valley Sash & Door Co. for 10 years. Survivors are his widow, Bertha E., at home; one daughter, Mrs. Orville Driver and two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Driver, all of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Tillotson and Mrs. Ellen Muir, both of Sumas; two brothers, Herbert, of Anacortes and Ezra of Port Angeles; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Donald Wrigley Wednesday, May 31 at 10:30 a. m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

BARGEWELL, Celestia Alice, age 80 years, of Rt. 2, Everson, passed away at a Bellingham hospital Wednesday, August 5, (1959). Mrs. Bargewell had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1884 and she leaves to survive three sons, Harry of San Jose, Calif., Elwin of Rochelle, Ill., and Clayton of Gustine, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sturgeon of Port Angeles, Mrs. Mildred Kalferd of Bellingham, and Mrs. Hazel Williams of Gustine, Calif.; one brother, Edward Welch of Carbonado, Wash.; four sisters, Mrs. Rachael Coligan of Nooksack, Mrs. Grace Martin, Portland, Mrs. Geneva Grover of Tacoma and Mrs. Myrtle Carlson of Everett; also 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 8, at 2 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, with the Rev. Norvil Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Nooksack Cemetery.

BARGEWELL, Edward - Funeral service for Edward Bargewell, 83, of Rt. 2, Everson, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gillies Funeral Home in Nooksack, followed by burial in Nooksack Cemetery. Mr. Bargewell died Wednesday in a Bellingham hospital after a lingering illness. He had lived in Whatcom County 72 years, coming here when he was 11 years old with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bargewell from England. They settled in the Everson-Nooksack district. He married Miss Celestia A. Welch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Welch, also pioneer residents of that area. Mr. and Mrs. Bargewell celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Aug. 15. Mr. Bargewell worked in mills as a young man, then for many years was employed at the Carnation plant in Everson. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Harry and Clayton Bargewell of Gustine, Calif., and Elwin Bargewell of Toppenish; three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sturgeon of Port Angeles, Mrs. Edward Kaiferd of Rt. 5, Bellingham, and Mrs. Hazel Williams of Gustine, Calif.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Grace Warner of Bellingham; Mrs. Violet Rock of Bandon, Ore., and Miss Celestia Mary Bargewell of Gustine, Calif.; three grandsons, Marvin Sturgeon of Pleasanton, Calif., James Sturgeon of Port Angeles and Robert Williams of Gustine, Calif., and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Arthur Bargewell of Bellingham; Ezra Bargewell of Port Angeles and Herbert Bargewell of Anacortes, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Tillotson and Mrs. Ellen Muir, both of Sumas.

BARICH, Martin L., age 81 years, of 1125 Sixteenth Street, passed away at a local hospital Friday, November 27, (1953) following a lingering illness. Mr. Barich had resided in Bellingham for the past 51 years and was a retired fisherman. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart. Mr. Barich is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jean M. Manka, of this city, and Mrs. Olin Ashcraft of Hot Springs, Mont.; three grandchildren, Glendine Manka, of this city, and Walker and Frances Ashcraft in Montana. Rosary will be said Monday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home. Requiem Mass will be read Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 9:30 a.m. within the Church of the Sacred Heart. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.

BARIL, Juanita age 85 of 115 Kellogg Rd. passed away Friday, February 14, (1975). Mrs. Baril had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 73 years and a member of the Unity Church. BARKER, Gene E., age 78, lifetime resident of Whatcom Co., passed away Sunday, April 13, 1997 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born June 2, 1918 in Snoqualmie, WA to Howard and Agnes (Herbert) Barker. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Lorton of Shelton, WA, Maryanne Wiggs of E. Wenatchee, WA; brothers, Jack Barker of Woodland, WA, Harold Barker of Bellingham; sister, Hazel Nelson of Ferndale; foster sister, Dolly Bishop of Bellingham, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Gene served in the Army during WWII under General Patton in the Battle Of The Bulge. His lifetime occupations were with Washington Loggers and fishing in Alaska with Pacific American Fishermen. BARKER, Ronald Lee. A Custer man, Ronald Lee Barker, 25, 3173 Barker's Lane, was electrocuted Monday (July 10, 1972) when the crane he was operating touched some overhead wires. Barker was working for Snelson Inc., of Sedro Woolley. He graduated from Bellingham High in 1960, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Loraine; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Barker of Bellingham and a grandmother, Mrs. Hattie Haan of Lynden. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Veroske's Funeral Home. BARLEAN, Paul Stanley. Paul Stanley Barlean officially has been pronounced dead by a Canadian court of law. Barlean, 31, was attempting to bring a fishing trawler from the west coast of northern Vancouver Island to Bellingham by himself last Nov. 8, (1978). Neither Barlean nor the boat has been found. [May 23, 1979] He is survived by his wife, Robin, and children Ila, Jonathan and Jennifer, at the family home, 3137 Birchwood Ave. His mother, Ethel Sheline, and sister, Anne Parks, live in Bellingham. Other brothers and sisters include B. T. Barlean, Everson; David Barlean, Ferndale; James Barlean, Everson; Dorothy Davidson, The Dalles, Ore.; Charles Barlean, Challenge, Calif.; Barbara Johnson, Red Oak, Iowa; J. M. Barlean, Dallas, Texas, and Jeanette Sims, Nashville, Tenn. Barlean was working at the Greenwood logging camp on Vancouver Island at the time of his disappearance. He was a graduate of Nooksack Valley High School. A memorial service will be held June 9 at the Congregational Church, Cornwall Avenue and D Street.

BARLOW, Dr. T. M. "Tony", age 81, 15th St., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Nov. 17, (1957). Dr. Barlow had resided in this community for the past 68 years; had practiced dentistry since 1904; was a graduate of the American College of Dentists and for many years served on the National Board of Dentists and was past president of the Washington State Dental Association. Among his other affiliations were his membership in Bellingham Lodge No. 194, where he was a past exalted ruler; a member and past president of the Bellingham Rotary Club; a member of Fairhaven Lodge No. 73, F & AM; a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and had attained the 33 Degree in Masonry. Dr. Barlow had been a member of the Hobby Club, and was current president of the Bellingham First Federal Savings & Loan Association. Surviving relatives are his daughter, Mrs. Marie Spier of Cashmere, Wash.; two sons, Marvin K. of Phoenix, Ariz., and Edward M. Barlow of Forest Hills, N. BARNARD, Margaret Jane, age 82 of Route 1, Ferndale, passed away at her home Wednesday, May 31, (1950). Mrs. Barnard had been a resident of the community for the past 47 years. Surviving relatives include her husband, Orvin C.; a daughter, Mrs. Rhea Pinckney, of Aberdeen; a sister, Mrs. Brainard Wright, of Wayne, Ohio; two brothers, A. H. James, of Bellingham, and Wilbur James, of Kane, Penn.; also numerous nieces and nephews including Mrs. Beryl J. Bruff, of Bellingham. BARNARD, O. C. - An old time oilman who lived 50 years in Whatcom County, O. C. Barnard, 86, 1713 G St., died Thursday (Oct. 8, 1953) at a local hospital. His father was one of the first drillers in Oil City, Pa., about 1860 when the industry was pioneered. Mr. Barnard worked in the oil fields in his youth before coming to Whatcom County in 1903. In 1916 he bought land near Laurel which he cleared and farmed until his retirement. He was a member of the Pomona Grange, Whatcom County Farm Bureau and Whatcom County Poultry Association. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rhea Pinckney, Aberdeen; a foster daughter, Mrs. Alice Johnson, Seattle; and a niece, Mrs. Beyrl Bruff, Bellingham. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Monroe Funeral Home, Ferndale. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park.

BARNES, Alfred T. H., age 68 of 2730 Superior St., passed away Sunday Dec. 16, 1979. He was a lifetime resident of this community and a retired fireman from the Bellingham Fire Dept. He was also a member of the St. Pauls Episcopal Church. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Donna L. West of Ferndale, Mrs. Judith E. Thomas, City, Mrs. Joyce E. BARNES, Anna E., age 77, of 2601 F Street, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday morning, December 28, (1949) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Barnes had been a resident of Bellingham for the past year and was formerly of Grand Forks, N. D. She was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and of the League of Women Voters. Surviving relatives include one son, Ransom E. Barnes, of Merced, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Maude G. Barnes, of Bellingham, with whom she made her home. The remains were forwarded to Grand Forks for interment by the Westford-Beck Funeral Home.

BARNES, Boyd B., age 58 years, of Rt. 3, Ferndale, passed away suddenly at his home Saturday, July 20, (1952). Mr. Barnes had been a resident of the Aldergrove community for the past 22 years. BARNES, Charles Edward, age 92, of Seattle, passed away in the city Sunday, July 2, (1950) following a short illness. Mr. Barnes had been a resident of the Lynden district since 1906, moving to Seattle 2 1/2 years ago. BARNES, Delcie Mae of Bellingham passed away on Monday, Dec. 5, (2005) in her home. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family alike. She was 76. Delcie leaves behind her loving daughter, Cheryl Ann Thompson; sisters Della Chapman, Nadine Bermaster and Norma Hardin; great-aunt Margaret Munroe; and many, many other family members of her extended family. Delcie was a widow. Born at St. Luke's Hospital in Bellingham on June 1, 1929, to Henrietta Munroe and Roy M. Lack, Delcie graduated from Bellingham High School in 1947 and moved to California in 1950. She spent 40 years in the banking industry as manager of savings and loan before retiring and returning to Bellingham in 1992. She was an active volunteer, Soroptimist and member of the local Moose lodge, as well as of the Fourth Corner Community Church. She volunteered much of her time at the Puget Sound Blood Center and also served for more than eight years as a Washington State Parks Department camp host. She loved reading and travel, but most of all, she loved her family. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Delcie Barnes will be held at Fourth Corner Community Church in Bellingham, located at 4071 Home Road on Saturday, Dec. 17th, at 1:00 p.m.

BARNES, Ellen M., age 69 years, passed away at 521 Garden street, Thursday, March 29, (1945). Mrs. Barnes had resided at Lake Samish the past fifty-three years and was a member of the Alder Grange and the Church of Christ. Surviving relatives are one son, Charles G. BARNES, Frances Brett, age 45, of Route 5, Lake Samish, Bellingham, passed away in Los Angeles Friday, September 18, (1953). Mrs. Barnes had been taking care of her uncle in Los Angeles for the past five months, and had previously resided in Bellingham for 25 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, and leaves to survive her husband, Charles G. Barnes, at the family home; and several cousins including Mrs. Roy Freeman, of Wenatchee, John Brett, of East Wenatchee, and Earl Brett, of Tacoma. BARNES, Iva M., age 77, of 3114 Birchwood, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Dec. 12, (1962). She had been a resident of the Custer district for 30 years and resided the last 12 years in Bellingham. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham and the Gold Star Mothers. BARNES, John Amos, age 77, of 1915 G Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 7, (1951) following a brief illness. Mrs. Barnett had resided in this community for the past 50 years and was a member of the Garden St. Methodist Church. Surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Grace E. Owens and Mrs. June L. Owens, both of Bellingham; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Claude and George Harker, both in Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Eva McCullough of San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Maude McGrath of Sheldon, Iowa, Mrs. Ollie Ebling, also of Iowa and Mrs. Lillian Olson of Pleasant Hill, Calif. The remains rest at Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. Calvin Moore, Friday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BARNETT, Nell M., 1603 E. Illinois Street, age 92, passed away Thursday, December 29, (1966). Miss Barnett had resided in this city the past eight years, and was a member of the Congregational Church. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Greenen and Mrs. Lucile Harris, both of this city, and nieces and nephews. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Private services will be conducted by Rev. J. Vincent Crane Tuesday, January 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

BARNETT, Ora Lee, age 43 of 1618 Donovan St., passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, (1976). Mrs. Barnett had been a resident of this city for the past 10 years. Surviving husband, Lloyd; 1 son, Doug.; 2 daughters, Debbie and Toni, all at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson of Atkins, Arkansas; 1 brother, Mr. Raymond Robinson of Arkansas; 1 sister, Mrs. Geraldine Grey of Memphis, Tenn., numerous nieces and nephews. BARNETT, Uel B., age 90 years of 1522 Lincoln Street passed away Sunday, July 17, (1960) in a local rest home following an extended illness. Mr. Barnett had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 59 years. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Neva Peterson of Bellingham, Mrs. Ruth Rancich and Mrs. Eva Barkley, both of Seattle; one son, Horace E. Barnett of Blaine; also 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in the Moles' Funeral Chapel in Ferndale, Thursday, July 21, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Ivan R. Smith officiating. Cremation will follow.

BARNETT, William "Bill," age 66 years, 201 Twenty-first Street, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, June 7, (1945). Mr. Barnett had resided here the past thirty-three years. Deceased was for many years a city police officer and more recently was a guard at the Bellingham Iron Works, Marine Division. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mabel at home; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Grace Owens and Mrs. June Owens of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Kaufman, Mrs. Nellie Eastwood and Mrs. Carrie Tooker of this city; two brothers, John and Bert Barnett at Leavenworth, Wash. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. John King Mitchell, Saturday, June 9, at 4:30 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BARNHARD, John, age 82, of Nooksack, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, March 23, (1950) following a lingering illness. Mr. Barnhard had been a resident of Nooksack for the past 28 years and was a member of the Advent Christian Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Tena Barnhard; a sister, Mary Wright, of Cedar Rapids, Neb.; three brothers, Herman, Nooksack, Albert, of Fenton, Ill., and Adolph, of Valleydale, Mich. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, with the Rev. R. L. Peterson, of Bellingham, officiating. Interment in the Nooksack Cemetery.

BARNHARD, Mary Christina, age 86, of Nooksack, passed away at her home Sunday, Feb. 3, (1952). She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rhoda Newlin, of Westfork, Ark.; one brother and one sister in the East, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, with the Rev. Lobb, of Chilliwack, Rev. Paul Freidman, of Nooksack, and Rev. VanBronkhofst, of Nooksack, officiating. Interment in Nooksack Cemetery.

BARNHARDT, Ione, age 41 years, Route 2 Ferndale, passed away at a local hospital, following a lingering illness, Wednesday, October 29, (1947). She had lived in the county her entire lifetime, and was a member of the Orchard Grange No. 346, Orchard Goodwill Club, and the St. Luke's Alumni Association. Mrs. Barnhardt was a graduate of the 1925 class of Ferndale high school, and the 1928 class of the St. Luke's hospital. Survivors are the husband, Merle; one daughter, Joan; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rogers, Ferndale; three sisters, Mrs. Frances Parry, Ferndale, Mrs. Erma Hatchman, Route 3 Bellingham, Mrs. Edna Sayre, Seattle; one nephew, Frank Hatchman; two nieces, Elaine Hatchman and Arlene Parry, and numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted at the Monroe Chapel in Ferndale, Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m., Rev. Dennis DeVoe officiating. Interment, Greenacres Memorial Park.

BARNHARDT, Merle, age 80, 6814 Olson Rd., Ferndale, passed away Sunday, June 20th, (1976). Mr. Barnhardt was a life time resident of Whatcom County and a retired member of the Meat Cutters Union. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Ferndale, 2 daughters, Joan Strotz of Ferndale, Muriel Jones of Truth of (sic) Consequenses, New Mexico, 3 step-daughters, Betty Heyano of Seattle, Kay Pearson of Ferndale, Gail Judge of Custer, 6 step-sons, Tom Pomeroy of Ferndale, Jack Pomeroy of Sumas, Don Pomeroy of Tamarac, Florida, Dick Pomeroy of Everett, Mike Pomeroy of Burlington and Edward Pomeroy of Custer. 2 sisters Gertrude Barker of Lacy, Pearl Moore of Bellingham, one brother, Calvin L. "Jack" of Jefferson, Oregon. Numerous grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. David B. Nelson, Wed. June 23rd, at 1:30 p.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park. Burial under the direction of Moles Funeral Home. The family would appreciate memorials to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital or the Washington Lung Assoc.

BARNHART, Anna I., age 76, of 1232 Grant St., passed away in Pt. Angeles Sunday, July 27, (1958). Mrs. Barnhart had resided in the Rome District for several years before moving to Bellingham in 1935, and had taught school in Michigan for 25 years before coming to Whatcom County. Deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Perry Chapter No. 221, Order of Eastern Star at Perry, Mich. She leaves to survive two sisters, Mrs. Charles R. Stewart of Bellingham and Mrs. Charles W. Alward of Port Angeles; four brothers, Omer McDonald of Athabaska, Alb., Duncan McDonald of Alberni, B.C., James McDonald of Burnaby, B.C., and William McDonald of Central Point, Ore., also many nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted Thursday, July 31, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BARNHART, Clarence, age 50, of 1410 Garden Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, May 1, (1948). Mr. Barnhart had resided in this community for the past 20 years and was a member of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M., Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion, and also the Drum and Bugle Corps. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mary, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Delores Anderson, of Bellingham; two sons, George and Marlyn, both in the U.S. Navy; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Marlow, of Spokane, Mrs. Hazel Graham, of Coulee City, and Mrs. Gladys Verguit, of Idaho; two brothers, Sylvester and Harry, of Spokane. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Alexander P. Aiton and officers of the Masonic Lodge Wednesday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BARNHART, Harold, 2817 E. Sunset Dr., died Saturday (Aug. 30, 1975) in a local hospital. He was 78. A retired candy manufacturer, Mr. Barnhart had made his home in Bellingham since 1969. Survivors include a son, Dr. Roger A., and two grandchildren, all of Bellingham. At his request, no funeral services were held. Veroske's Bellingham Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

BARNHART, Hattie, age 87, of 2105 New Street, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, August 20, (1950) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Barnhart had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 26 years, she was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Edith McDonald of Bellingham; a stepson, Raymond Barnhart of St. Charles, Mich.; six grandchildren, Mrs. Harriet Pruitt, Mrs. Mary K. Mura and Jack McDonald, all of Bellingham, Kenneth McDonald of Willapa, Wash., and William and Max Barnhart, both of St. Charles, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Frank E. Pellett of Klamath Falls, Ore. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 23, at 3 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Taylor, pastor of the Garden Street Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Bay View Cemetery.

BARNHART, Ida Belle, 80, of Rt. 3, Ferndale, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Dec. 25, (1955) following an extended illness. Mrs. Barnhart had lived in the Ferndale area 31 years. She was a member of Ferndale First Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Esther Trivett of North Bellingham, and Mrs. Ruby Prather of Seattle; two sons, Joseph of Ferndale, and Walter of Richland, Wash.; a brother and sister in Missouri; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, from Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale with Rev. Ralph Funkhouser officiating. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

BARNHART, Mabel Estes, age 98, of Marysville and formerly of Lynden, died Monday, June 20, 1988, in Marysville. Mrs. Barnhart was born October 17, 1889, at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She lived for many years in Lynden, where she and her husband, John, homesteaded. She lived at Granite Falls for several years and for the past 21 years in Marysville. She is survived by a daughter, Pauline Kinney, of Marysville; and a granddaughter, Janice, of Spokane. At her request, there will be no memorial services. Following cremation, interment will be in the Lynden Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral home of Marysville.

BARNHART, Mary Raths, age 65, of 1207 1/2 State St., passed away in a local sanitarium Tuesday, Aug. 25, (1959). Mrs. Barnhart had resided in Bellingham for many years; was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club and chairman of the Retarded Children; member of the Lake Padden Demonstration Club; member of the Holly Rebekah Lodge No. 3; honorary life member of the Ground Observer Corps. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Deloris Jackson, of Bellingham; two sons, Merlyn C., USN, of San Diego, Calif., and George A. of Guam; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Minnie Raths, of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Alma Clark of Spokane, and Mrs. Martha Baldwin, of Opportunity; one brother, Arthur Raths, of Spokane. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Mrs. O. T. Field, Friday Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. at Bay View Cemetery.

BARNHART, Mildred (SoRelle), age 88, former B'ham. resident, died Thurs. Dec. 28th (1978), in Ogden, Utah. She was born Dec. 29, 1889 in Bellingham, WA. to George & Belle Hammer SoRelle, married to Harry E. Barnhart from whom she was later divorced. She graduated from Whatcom High School & Bellingham State Normal College. She taught school in Custer, Olympia, Okanogan & Seattle, WA. until retiring in 1956. She lived in B'ham. from 1956 to 1973, when she moved to Ogden, Utah to live with her daughter. She was former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Wash. State Retired Teachers Assn., the Women's Music Club & the Methodist Church. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Les. (Jane) Gardiner of Ogden, Utah. 9 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sat. Dec. 30th at Larkin & Sons Mortuary, Ogden, Utah. Burial will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.

BARNHART, Walter B., age 75 of 1200 Birchwood passed away Thurs., Jan. 29, (1976). Mr. Barnhart had been a resident of Bellingham the past 12 years and was retired from General Electric. He was a veteran of World Wars I & II and a member of the DAV. He leaves to survive a son, Walter Barnhart of Yakima; 2 daughters, Mrs. Betty Harrison of Acme and Mrs. Beverly Gardner of Seattle; 9 grandchildren, numerous great - grandchildren; brother, Joseph M. Barnhart Jr. of Ferndale; sister, Mrs. Ruby Prather of this city. Services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Julia Brand officiating. Cremation.

She was a member of the Central Lutheran Church, South Bellingham Community Club, Rome Grange Auxiliary and the Evergreen Garden Club. Surviving are 1 son, Kenneth W. Knudson, City; 3 daughters, Mrs. Earl Pyeatt, Bellevue, Wash., Mrs. Reuben Lykke and Mrs. Bill Davis both of this city; 2 step-children, Winnifred Pattison, City and Ed Barnhart, Seattle; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Archie V. Anable, Seattle, Clyde A. Anable, City. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Central Lutheran Church under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

BARNHOLT, William Lee - Visitation for William Lee Barnholt St. will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Jern LeVeck Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel, followed by burial in Greenacres Cemetery. Mr. Barnholt, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at his Bellingham home. He was born August 12, 1926, in Red Bluff, Calif., to Wilfred Alton and Edna FlorenTina (Gutzman) Barnholt. Mr. Barnholt was a member of Garden Street Methodist Church and VFW Post 1585. He enjoyed building things, music and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife Alta. He is survived by two sons, William Barnholt Jr. of Everson and Gerald Barnholt of Marysville; a daughter, Cheryl Jones of Marysville; a stepdaughter, Sharon Crawford of Bellingham; a sister, Florence Caisse of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

BARNUM, Emma L., age 88, of 1319 Garden St., passed away in a local hospital Friday, April 10, (1953). Mrs. Barnum had resided in this community for the past 29 years and was a member of the Baptist Church, but had in recent years attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Surviving relatives are one niece, Mrs. Arthur Anderson, and two nephews, Griff and Edward Williams, all of Lawrence. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private services will be conducted by the Rev. James Martyn Wilson, Monday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. Cremation.

BARONIO, Bert, age 64, of 1310 Iowa Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday morning, January 4, (1950) following a short illness. Mr. Baronio was a native of Italy, coming to this country about 45 years ago. he was a member of the Catholic Church. Thee are no known relatives in this country. Rosary will be said Friday, January 6, at 7:30 p. m. within the Church of the Assumption. Requiem high mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 7, at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Cremer, celebrant. Interment in Bay View Cemetery under the direction of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home.
