COPE, Clyde Riley, 68, of Deming died Sunday, March 19, 1995 at his residence. Clyde, the youngest of 11 children, was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Iola, Kan. [to] Samuel May and Minnie Mae (Payne) Cope. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served with the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge he worked heavy equipment on road and dam construction. Later he joined the Boilermakers and Iron Shipbuilders Union. Prior to retirement he worked for Olivine Corp. of Bellingham. Clyde married Elizabeth Anne Phinney on Aug. 9, 1952 in Burlington. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1585, Bellingham, and very active in Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a resident of Rural Whatcom County for the past 42 years. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Cope of the family home; two sons, Timothy Cope of Bellingham and Ronald Cope of Lynden; two sisters, Marie Henderson of Hawley, Colo. and Ethel Walton of Bakersfield, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church near Kendall, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Committal services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Clipper with Military honors provided by VFW Post 1585.

COPLAND, Albert J. - Memorial service for Albert J. Copland, age 80 of 2829 Lafayette St., will be Thursday April 21 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, committal service will precede memorial service at Woodlawn Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Rev. Russell Hendrickson officiating. Mr. Copland passed away Monday April 18, 1983. He is survived by his wife Grace; 2 daughters, Lois & husband Bob Oswalt of City; Nona & LeRoy Inman of Longview; 1 son, Robert & wife Colleen Copland of City; 7 grandchildren; 1 brother, Charles Copland of Burnaby, B. C.; 2 sisters, Lessena & husband Charles Parker of Mission, B. C., Mildred Edmondson of Prince George, B. C.; numerous nieces & nephews. Mr. Copland had been a Bellingham resident for 36 years. [b. COPLAND, Robert J., age 50, of 3221 Heights Dr., passed away Wed. April 27, (1988) after a short illness. He attended Bellingham Public Schools and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1955. Graduate of Western Washington University; received BA in Music, MA in School Counseling, and received Principal's Credential. He was employed by the Bellingham School District No. 501 for the past 28 years; 10 years as Music Teacher, 5 years School Counselor, Vice principal and Principal Shuksan Middle School for 10 years, Personnel Administrator 4 years, affiliated faculty - WWU; Recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from WWU (1987); IDEA Fellow; Recipient of Golden Acorn Award - Bellingham Schools. He was a member of Bellingham Administrators Organization; Washington Association of Personnel Administrators; National Association of Secondary School Principals; Washington Association of School Administrators; Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; past member National Education Association; past member Bellingham Education Association; Board member of Washington Educational Credit Union Board; Salvation Army Board; YMCA Board; Catholic Community Services - chairman. Church Affiliations: Member of Sacred Heart Parish; past member of Assumption Parish; Choir director at Assumption Parish; Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Parish; member and chairman of Parish Council at Assumption Parish; past member of Knights of Columbus. Mr. Copland enjoyed musical interests for many years; was a member of several local dance bands; Musicians Union; Bellingham Civic Band for many years; Western Washington State College orchestra; conducted the Bellingham High School Orchestra; member of San-Juan Music Educators Association. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing golf, and playing music for relaxation and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. COPELAND, Alberta, age 91, formerly 1106 W. Holly, passed away Friday, August 12, (1966). Mrs. Copeland was a six-year resident of Bellingham. Surviving is a son, Howard Copeland of McMinnville, Oregon. Private services were conducted and cremation followed under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

COPELAND, Dora W., age 83 of Bellingham passed away March 4, 1983. She was born in England and came to this area in 1965 from Illinois. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, Charles; a daughter, Betty Holtorf, Alderwood Manor, WA; a cousin, Ethel Glenn of Victoria, B. C.; a grandson, S. Michael Nelson of Bellingham; a brother-in-law, William Copeland of Burnaby, B. C.; 2 daughters-in-law, Ida Wallis of Richmond, B. COPELAND, Verle M., age 84, of 2225 Iron St., Bellingham passed away in Bellingham Oct. 11, 1988. He leaves to survive his wife, Erain Copeland; his son, Marvin & his wife Dolores all of Bellingham; 2 brothers, Norman Copeland of Mallaig, Alberta, & Bernard of Santa Barbara, CA; 1 sister, Mildred of Yuma, AZ; 4 grandchildren. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin. Verle & Erain were married in 1926 & moved to Bellingham in 1927. He was employed by Larson Mill, delivered bread for several years & then worked for Boeing in Seattle during World War II, returning to Bellingham in 1945. He worked for a while for the Bellingham Shipyards, until he struck out on his own as a carpenter for the next 20 yrs. retiring in 1969. During his earlier days in Bellingham he was active in the local Elks, Eagles & Symphonic Bands as a trumpet player. He was a member of Church of the Assumption, Carpenters Union & Senior Activity Center. Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, at Jerns LeVeck Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Steve Sallis officiating. Burial will follow at Greenacres Cemetery.

COPPER, Bernice M., age 64 of Route 1, Ferndale, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 28, (1962) following a short illness. Mrs. Copper had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 3 years and was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Ferndale, the Evergreen Home Demonstration Club. She leaves to survive her husband, Carl of the family home, 1 son Robert C., city; 1 daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Berg of Seattle, 2 grandchildren, Christine and Mary Kay Copper both of this city; 1 brother and 2 sisters in the East. Rosary will be said Monday April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem mass will be offered Tuesday May 1 at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ferndale. Interment Greenacres.

COPPER, Eunice Ruth Biendl, a lifelong resident of Shaw Island, died at her home June 5, (1985). She was 73. Born Dec. 28, 1911, she graduated from the one-room school on Shaw Island and from Orcas High School. She helped her husband, Ted copper, build their home. Trees cut on their property were sawed into lumber at their sawmill. Mrs. Copper was a homemaker and liked to crochet and sew, cook and can home-grown chicken, vegetables and fruit. She was a founding member of Shaw Island Garden Club, and continued in the Shaw Island Women's Club, which succeeded it. Mrs. Copper also was a charter member of the Shaw Island Library and Historical Society, serving for several years as trustee and treasurer. Survivors include her husband, Ted; two sisters; and a brother.

COPPER, Karl T., age 82, former resident of Ferndale & Bellingham. Passed away in a Skagit valley Hospital, Sun. March 28, (1976). He was born in Pennsylvania, Jan. 7th. 1894. Mr. Copper was a senior Bookkeeper for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad in Detroit, Mich. He was a member of the Northwest Baptist Church in Bellingham. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Berg, of Ravendale, Wa.; a son, Robert Copper of Mt. Vernon, 6 grandchildren and a brother Theodore Copper of Shaw Island. Funeral services will be held in the Kern Funeral Chapel, Wed. March 31, at 1 p.m., burial in Greenacres Memorial Park.

COPPER, Robert Carl, a resident of Mt. Vernon, passed away July 4, 1979 at Ofoyoof, British Columbia, Canada. He was born July 20, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He served with the United States Army. He married Delores Krause, Feb. 28, 1966 in Angola, Indiana. Mr. Copper owned and operated Skagit Business College in Mt. Vernon for the past 10 years. He is a former resident of Bellingham, WA. A member of the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Delores of Mt. Vernon; 2 daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Christine) Mow of Mt. Vernon and Miss Mary Copper of Mt. Vernon; 2 sons, James and David at the family home; 1 sister, Mrs. Arthur (Marilyn) Berg of Ravensdale, WA; 2 nephews, an aunt & uncle. Mass of Christian Burial will be held July 9, 1979 at 10 a. m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mt. Vernon. COPPINGER, Cami Llyn, 15 months, infant daughter of Mark & Mary Lou Coppinger, 3594 Breckenridge rd., Everson, passed away in Childrens Hospital in Pittsburg on Mon, Sept. 6, (1982). Born in Bellingham May 18, 1981. Besides her parents Cami is survived by a sister Carrie; 2 brothers, Mark & Mike; her grandparents, Mr. Harold Lee of Everson and Mr. & Mrs. Mark Coppinger Sr. of Santa Clara, Calif.; great-grandparents, Mr. & Mr. Harold Koppang of Portland, Oregon, Mr. & Mrs. Jake Krall of Sheldon, Iowa; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Fri. Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. COPPS, Charles A., Sr., age 56, of Ferndale passed away April 14, (1972). Mr. Copps had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 56 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Marysville Moose Lodge No. 1845. He is survived by three sons, Howard of Ferndale, Gary of Mount Vernon, Charles, Jr. of the U. S. Navy, stationed at San Diego; one brother, E. L. Copps of Marysville; four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery Wednesday at 11 a.m. under the direction of Moles Funeral Home.

COPPS, Dorothy M., age 76, of 312 Viewcrest, passed away Fri. Dec. 13, 1985. COPPS, Richard E., 46 of Arlington died July 30, 1981, in Everett. He was born October 15, 1934 in Bellingham where he was raised and attended school. He lived in the Arlington area for the past 20 years. He leaves his wife Ellen; parents Nellie & Bob Green of Mt. COPPS, Viola, age 49 who resided at 1298 Northwest Rd., passed away Friday January 21, (1966) in a local rest home. A lifetime resident of Whatcom County she leaves to survive her husband, Charles, 3 sons, Charles A. CORBELL, Ivy S., 78, a Bellingham resident, died Saturday February 22, 1997 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. She was born on January 3, 1919 in Umpire, Arkansas, the daughter of Jeff & Ruth Blanton Davis. She was united in marriage to Ralph B. Corbell on June 13, 1936. They moved to eastern Washington in 1941, eventually settling in Alger. Following Ralph's death in 1986 she moved to Bellingham. She loved fishing, camping, gardening and cooking. Most of all she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by 1 son & daughter-in-law, Joe & Lorena Corbell of Alger; 1 daughter & son-in-law, Joyce & Jerry Pfluger of Bellingham; 7 grandchildren, Doug & Phil Corbell of Alger, Lee & Lynn Pfluger of Bellingham and Brook, Danny & Michelle Pfluger of Sedro-Woolley; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers & 1 sister. Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 25, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington, Pastor Rich DeRuiter of Alger Christian Reformed Church officiating. CORBELL, Ralph B., age 71, of Alger, died unexpectedly Fri., Jan. 3, 1986, in a Sedro Woolley hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1914 in Dierks, Arkansas. His marriage to Ivy Davis took place June 13, 1936 in Unpire (sic), Arkansas. He came to Washington in 1941 and had resided in the Alger area since 1961. He was self employed in the logging industry until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Ivy at home; 1 daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Gerald) Pfluger of Bellingham; 1 son Joe Corbell of Alger; 1 granddaughter, Lynn Pfluger of Bellingham; 3 grandsons, Doug & Phillip Corbell, both of Alger and Lee Pfluger of Bellingham; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Frances Taylor of Henderson, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Roy Corbell. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tues., Jan. 7th at the Burlington Cemetery, the Rev. Lawrence Crandall will officiate.

CORBETT, Ann Matter, age 52, of Prescott, Wash., a former resident of the Lynden area, passed away of injuries received in an automobile accident near Pasco, Wash. Surviving are her husband, Patrick of Prescott, Wash.; one son, Henry Vrieling of Everett; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry Lopaz of Cascade Falls, Idaho; four brothers, Bert and Martin Matter, both of Lynden, John Matter of Everett, Luke Matter of Seattle; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Vander Berg and Mrs. Oscar Dykstra, both of Lynden; Mrs. Arie Van Winkle of Everett; also surviving is her mother, Mrs. Henry Matter of Lynden; five grandchildren. CORBETT, Florence M., age 65, of 1015 Indian Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, Oct. 28, (1950). Mrs. Corbett had resided in this community for the past 20 years and was a member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft. Surviving relatives are sone stepson, George, of Bellingham; one sister, Mrs. Pem (sic) Evans of Melbourne, Australia, and two nieces in England. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. David S. Lanad, Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

CORBETT, George J., age 63, of 1509 E. Victor Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, September 2, (1952). Mr. Corbett had resided in this community for the past 30 years, and was a retired electrician. He leaves to survive a daughter, Mrs. Grant Logan, of Juneau, Alaska. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. John Parrott Monday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation.

CORBETT, William Clifford of Bellingham died Friday, Aug. 5, 1994, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was 70. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Born Feb. 29, 1924, to William and Jessie Downey Corbett in Chilliwack, B. C., he grew up in Vancouver, B. C. He served as a commando in the Canadian Navy for five years during World War II. Mr. Corbett married Barbara Cruickshank in 1946 in Victoria, B. C. He moved to Bellingham in 1956. A truck driver for Bellingham Builders for 16 years, he was a member of teamsters Local No. 231. He retired in 1978. Survivors include his wife of the family home; sons William J. Corbett (wife Debbie)and John C. Corbett (wife Laura), both of Bellingham; daughters Gail Ann Kautzman (husband Pat) and Georgia Lee Walker (husband Jim), both of Bellingham, Donna Mae Grinton of Burlington and Barbara Anne Lam (husband John) of Mount Vernon; and 14 grandchildren.

CORBIN, Asa R., age 82 of 2701 Elm St., passed away Sun. Sept. 19, (1976). Mr. Corbin had resided in Bellingham for the past 2 years and was a retired grocer. He leaves to survive 4 daughters, Mrs. Romona Roberts of this city, Mrs. Viola Weller of Tacoma, Mrs. Loretta Pronovost of Auburn, Mrs. Frances Hrobik of Portland, 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Westford Funeral Home.

CORBIN, Jesse Allen, age 78, of Sumas, passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, April 17, (1956) following a short illness. Mr. Corbin had been a resident of the Sumas district for the past 57 years. He is survived by his wife, Minnie May; one daughter, Mrs. Dwight Williams of Everson; one grandson, Dwight Williams Jr. of Olympia; one granddaughter, Mrs. Patricia Galbraith of Acme; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank in Fresno, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas. Interment Lakeside Cemetery at Clearbrook.

CORBITT, William R., 76, 105 34th St., died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 1986) at his home. He was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Alberta, Canada, and was a resident of Bellingham for 55 years. Mr. Corbitt worked as a custodian at the Whatcom County Courthouse and was an active supporter of the Bellingham-Whatcom County Humane Society. Survivors include his wife Ruth Corbitt of the family home; a son, Ronald David Corbitt of Bellingham; a daughter, Rita Hatch of Bellingham; a sister, Margaret Brown of Stanton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private family services were conducted today under the direction of Greenacres Funeral Home.

CORCORAN, Bertha J., age 64, of Ferndale, Rt. 2, passed away at a local hospital Monday, August 16, (1954). She had been a resident of the county for the past 54 years. she is survived by her husband, William; one daughter, Mrs. Mona C. Thomas of Bellingham; one son, Carl H. Hayden of Bellingham; one grand-daughter and one grandson; a step-son, Clinton Corcoran of Maple Falls; numerous other relatives. CORCORAN, Cliff, age 70 of 1610 Iron St., passed away Monday May 21, 1979. Mr. Corcoran was a lifetime resident of this community, was a retired carpenter and a active fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Violet, 2 sons, Edward, City, and Clyde of Indianapolis, Indiana, 6 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Kathryn and Margaret, both Portland and Anna of Anacortes. Services Fri. CORCORAN, Maria Elizabeth, age 74, passed away at her home on Lummi Island, Wednesday, November 10, (1948). Mrs. Corcoran had been a resident of that community for the past 48 years and was a member of the Church of England. Surviving relatives are three sons, William, of Ferndale, and John and Clifford, of Lummi Island; six daughters, Mrs. Laura Kuhns, of Bellingham, Mrs. Hattie Tuttle and Mrs. Helen Hoffman, of Lummi Island, Mrs. Annie Brown, of Marblemount, Mrs. Margaret Noble and Mrs. Catherine Smith of Portland, Ore.; twenty-two grandchildren; one sister, Miss Mary Chappell, of Vancouver, B. C., and six brothers, Ernest, John, James, Frederick, George and William Chappell, all of Vancouver, B. C. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun, Saturday, November 13, at 2:30 p.m. Cremation.

CORCORAN, May of Everson, WA passed away Thursday November 12, (2015) at Good Samaritan Stafholt Center in Blaine, WA. May was one of eight children, born December 11, 1924 in Bellingham to Louis and Reah May (Mose) Cowan. She grew up on Lummi Island where she lived for 47 years, then made her home in Everson, where she spent most of the remainder of her life. She enjoyed her garden and flowers and took great pride in mowing her 3 acres of lawn. She loved the old time western music, some of which she sang from memory to her children and grandchildren up until a day before her passing. Gene Autry was her favorite cowboy. The most important thing to her though, was her family, and she will be greatly missed. May was preceded in death by her husband John Corcoran, grandson, David and longtime friend and companion Jim Keehn, brothers, Stanley, Louis, and Walter, and sister June. She is survived by her children, Eileen (John) Hanson, Steve (Leslee) Smith, and Jackie Edin, five grandchildren Angela (Travis), Jennifer, Josh, Jerry (Carlena) and Stephanie (Dave); three great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Max, and Angie; three sisters, Joyce Bowhay, Alice Bowhay and Lois Rhodda and many nieces and nephews. May's final resting place will be at the Lummi Island Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held on the Island in the spring of 2016.

CORCORAN, Violet E. - Funeral service for Violet E. Corcoran, age 69, of 2401 Elm St., will be Wednesday Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. in Jones Funeral Home with Mr. Paul Elvig officiating. Cremation Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Corcoran passed away sun. Jan. 23, 1983. Hamilton Post No. 7 American Legion; Past Commander of American Legion Post No. 307, North Hollywood, CA; member of Silver Beach Community Church and was a Liaison Officer for Boy Scout Troop No. 44. CORDOVA, Max Ronnie of 2339 Lincoln St. died at the age of 62, Sat. Aug. 16, 1980. He is retired from the U. S. CORDS, Donald Christian - A graveside inurnment service for Donald Christian Cords of Bellingham will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Veterans Plaza in Bayview Cemetery with Dr. Leslie Ann Knight officiating. Military honors will be by Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. Mr. Cords died at home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997. He was 64. Born March 27, 1932, to Otto and Grace Metcalf Cords in Ainsworth, Neb., he lived in Bellingham since 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. A volunteer with Head Start and the Boy Scouts, Mr. Cords enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Cords. Survivors include his wife, Eva, whom he married Jan. 17, 1959, in Bellingham; sons Donald Cords Jr. and Kenneth Cords, both of Bellingham; daughter Laura Evans of Bellingham; sister Ruby Fisher of Huntley, Neb.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. COREY, Elinor Starkovich, age 70, a Sedro Woolley & former Whatcom County resident died Wednesday (July 25, 1984). She was born in Bellingham in 1914, the daughter of Joe & Mary Briggs. She attended Mt. Baker High School & had been a resident of Clear Lake, Oregon, California & Sedro Woolley. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Clipper, Wash., & a former member of the Hugo Helmer Accordian Band. She is survived by her husband, Richard, Sedro Woolley; 3 brothers, John Geron, Deming, Joseph Briggs, Big Lake, Henry Briggs, Forks; a sister, Victoria Pearson, Bellingham; a stepson, Ray Corey, Spokane; & a number of nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a husband, Paul Barnum & a son, Cecil Barnum. Her husband Tony Starkovich preceded her in death in 1981. COREY, Ethel Ada, age 71, of 719 E. Sunset Drive, passed away in a local hospital Thursday Dec. 7, (1962). Widow of the late Hilton O. Corey, Mrs. Corey was a 36-year resident of Bellingham and a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church. Survivors are one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Corey of Bellingham; one grandson, Kevin Corey of Bellingham; one sister in Texas; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Guyette, in New York. COREY, Frank A., age 71, 2512 Toledo Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, March 1st. (1966). Mr. Corey was a forty-year resident of this city, and was retired from the Bellingham Fire Department. He attended the garden Street Methodist Church, and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Retired Firemen's Assn. of Bellingham. COREY, Lucille Lee died Monday, Nov. 21, 1994, at Shuksan Convalescent Center. She was 78. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Stender officiating. Born June 30, 1916, to Palmer and Mabel Lee in Bellingham, she married Kenneth Corey in 1949. CORN, Mabel E., age 89 formerly of 401 W. Pole Rd. Lynden passed away in Stanwood on Sunday, August 14, 1983. Born in Sisseton, S. Dakota, Mrs. Corn moved to the Whatcom County area with her husband Home from Boise, Idaho in 1944. They were married in Caldwell, Idaho on May 11, 1929 and Mr. Corn passed away in 1955. She was a member of the Bellingham Free Methodist Church and had worked for a number of years as a practical nurse at the former Whatcom County hospital. She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Ione & husband Bob Weatherby of Lynden, Mrs. Betty and husband Al Edwards of Stanwood and Mrs. Norma & husband Bart Freelin of Spokane; a son J. Daniel and wife Linda Corn of Spokane; a step-son, Alfred A. & wife Jessie Corn of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. CORNE, Ivor, formerly of Bellingham, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1993, in Seattle. He was 72. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview Community Cemetery in Bayview. Military honors are pending. Born March 7, 1921, to Ira Peter and Emma (Jackson) Corne in Mill Springs, N. C., he married Dorothy Stein on Sept. 3, 1946, in Spartanburg, S. C. He worked in Yelm as a young man and was in Africa and Italy in the Army during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart in Italy. Mr. Corne moved to Burlington in 1946. He moved to Bellingham six years later, where he worked at Mount Baker Plywood for 25 years. He moved to Bayview after he retired in 1980. Mr. Corne was a life member of the Bellingham Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled Veterans. He also was a member of the Bellingham American Legion for 47 years. Mr. Corne was an active fisher and hunter. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Bayview; daughters Judy Bray of Tacoma, Joyce Ramey of Bayview and Janna Eastland of Whidbey Island; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nieces and numerous cousins, all in North Carolina.

CORNELL, Richard L. - Graveside services for Richard L. "Lee" Cornell, 59, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Greenacres Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jack Keller officiating. Mr. Cornell, 411 E. Main St., Everson, died Tuesday (Oct. 11, 1988) of a heart attack at his home. He and his wife Grace had moved to Everson from Spokane three months ago. Mr. Cornell was born in McCleary, Wash., on Sept. 14, 1929, and served in the Army during the Korean conflict and in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. He was employed by United Boat Builders in Bellingham until 1967, when he was injured on the job and went into early retirement. When his health allowed, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and drawing. He was a member of the Moose and Elks clubs. Survivors include his wife of the family home; two sons, Daniel Cornell and James Cornell, both of Everson; two daughters, Rhonda Martin of Chewelah and Lillian Rodriguez of Everson; three brothers, James Cornell of Bellingham, Robert and Eugene Cornell of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Hughes of South Bend and Mary Martin of Issaquah. CORNELL, William Carl, age 53 years, of Sumas, Route 1, passed away Tuesday, August 12, (1947) following a long illness. Mr. Cornell had been a resident of that district for the past twenty years. He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Joan, Marie and Margaret, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Jennie Cornell, of Everett; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Leckvold, Sumas; one brother, Borger, of Everett. CORNELSEN, Jonas, age 79, died Saturday, January 4, 1997 in Bellingham, WA. He was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to Jacob and Minnie Cornelsen on April 9, 1917. The family moved to Texas and then to Reedley, California, where Jonas was employed. Jonas married Martha Wiens on April 11, 1946. They lived in San Jose, California. Jonas and Martha moved to a farm in Ferndale, WA in 1954. There he raised his family working hard as a farmer and faithfully serving in various capacities at Birch Bay Mennonite Church. He began work as a millworker for Mt. Baker Plywood in 1963 until his retirement in 1979. Upon retirement, he enjoyed a full life, traveling, gardening and doing woodwork. He was actively involved in the Gideons and served as an elder at Good News Fellowship Church. He recently celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife of 50 years. Jonas loved the Lord first and foremost. His faithful love for his wife and family and his quiet spirit will be sorely missed. Survivors include his wife Martha of Bellingham. CORNELSEN, Tillie Kliewer, 78, of 5080 Northwest Road, Bellingham, died Sept. 11, 1991 at St. Francis Extended Health Care in Bellingham from a stroke. Mrs. Cornelsen was born Jan. 4, 1913 in Balko, Okla. to Henry P. and Emma Unruh Kliewer. She was a charter member of Good News Fellowship Church of Ferndale. Mrs. Cornelsen married Herbert H. Cornelsen in 1937 in Balko. They lived in California and in 1949 moved to Whatcom County. She is survived by her husband Herbert H. Cornelsen of the family home; two sons, Leo Cornelsen and his wife Janis of Ferndale and Gene Cornelsen and his wife Shirley of Snohomish; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Kliewer of California, Polly Crunau of Texas and Elsie Megert of Oklahoma; and numerous other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Monday in the chapel of Greenacres Funeral Home, with Pastor Erik D. Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Greenacres Memorial Park.

CORNING, Glen Emery - A memorial mass for former Whatcom County logger, rancher and developer Glen Emery Corning, 76, will take place 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 318 w. Northshore Drive, Moses Lake. Mr. Corning died Wednesday (May 16, 1990) in Moses Lake. He was active in business until his death. Mr. Corning was named Whatcom County Cattleman of the Year in 1966. In 1979 he was named "Bull of the Woods" at the Deming Log Show in recognition of his community service. Mr. Corning was born September 11, 1913, in Port Angeles. He Married Betty Ott on July 7, 1938 in Port Angeles and moved to Whatcom County to log in 1940. For many years, Mr. Corning played an active role in the logging community. In 1949 he spearheaded the raising of Bellingham's largest ever Christmas tree, a 153-footer at the corner of railroad and Holly streets. In 1960, Mr. Corning retired from logging and began major land developments throughout the state, including Glenhaven Lakes and Ocean Shores. In 1969 he sold the 1,200-acre Corning Ranch, where he had lived with his family since 1950. The ranch later was developed into the Sudden Valley community. Mr. Corning and family moved to Ephrata in 1969, where he continued to ranch. Later, he moved to Moses Lake and started a hay-cubing business south of Othello. He was an avid flyer, hunter, fisherman and cattleman throughout his life. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Jack Corning of Wenatchee and Michael Corning of Bellingham; daughter Glenda Henifin of Bellingham; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Bill Corning; sisters Alida Tarr and Lorena Ludtke, all of Bellingham.

CORNING, Jess Almon, age 37 years, of Port Angeles, Wash., passed away at a local hospital Thursday evening, August 22, (1946) as the result of a logging accident. Mr. Corning had resided in this community for the past two months, being employed by the Clearwater Logging Co., of Deming, Wash. He was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Port Angeles, and the I.W.A. Local No. 290 of Port Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Corning; one son, Larry; one daughter, Beverly, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Vina Corning, of Seattle; three brothers, Ralph, of Deming, Glen and William, both of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Alida Tarr and Mrs. Lorena Ludtke, both of Bellingham, and many nephews and nieces. CORNING, Margaret Virginia, 78, of Arlington, died Oct. 7, 1991 in Seattle. She was born Feb. 4, 1913 in Port Angeles and had lived in Arlington since 1950. CORNISH, Olive J., age 84, passed away at her home, 1519 Iron Street, Wednesday, Feb. 6, (1957). Mrs. Cornish had been a resident of this community for the past 57 years and was a member of the First Christian Church and a member of Naomi Chapter No. 13, O.E.S. in Puyallup. Surviving relatives are two daughter, Mrs. Erma Gadd of Seattle and Miss Carol Cornish at home, also numerous nieces and nephews. CORNMESSER, Margaret T., 81, 5849 Guide Meridian, died Monday (Apr. 14, 1986) in a local hospital. She was born April 23, 1904, in Rich Hill, Mo. After 50 years spent farming in eastern Washington, Mrs. Cornmesser moved to Bellingham to live with her son, James G. Cornmesser, in 11983. She was a 45-year member of the Washington State Grange, and was a member of Widows of World War I Veterans. CORNWELL, Charles F. "Frenchy", age 103, was born in Springville, Illinois March 21, 1878. For many years he cooked on Railroads, traveling all over the United States. In 1912 he was married to Ella Peterson & soon after came to Bellingham. He was head chef of Bells Cafeteria for many years. The past several years he had been a resident of Stafholt Icelandic Home in Blaine, where the event of his 100th birthday was remembered by the staff & residents. He also received recognition from Pres. Carter, Gov. Ray & City of Blaine officials plus many friends & relatives. He had been a resident of Whatcom Co. for 64 years. He leaves to survive several nieces & nephews in Alberta, Canada & Fort Wayne, Indiana, & locally Mrs. Pearl Flake of Bellingham & Mrs. Jeanette Peterson of Blaine. There will be no services. Cremation will be held in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of Moles Funeral Home.

CORONA, Enriqueta (Ricki) Chacon de, 84, a Tacoma resident since 1978 and formerly of Lynden, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 1991. She was born in Mexico and was a member of Primera Iglesia De Dios Hispana in Tacoma. CORRAY, Ruth Esther, beloved mother & grandmother passed away Thurs. March 29, (1984) after a brief illness. She was the widow of William James Corray who passed away in January of 1959 and was born in Albert Lea, Minn. Feb. 22, 1894. She just celebrated her 90th birthday. CORRAY, William J. "Jim", aged 54 years, of 2817 Poplar Drive, passed away in a local hospital Friday, January 16 (1959) following an extended illness. CORRELL, Russell, passed away on March 13, 1986 at his Seattle home. He was 78 and a former resident of Ferndale for many years. CORRIE, Ralph J. - Merchant seaman Ralph J. Corrie, 70, of 3605 Lummi Shore Road, died Monday (Sept. 5, 1988) in Bellingham. He was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Portland, Ore., but lived in Whatcom County resident for the last 18 years. Mr. Corrie worked much of his life in the shipping industry. CORRIGAN, Martin L., age 58, who resided at 306 10th St., Lynden, passed away Thurs., Nov. 25, (1976) in a local hospital. He had been a resident of Lynden for the past 24 years and was a retired Port Director of the United States Customs. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lynden. CORRION, Floyd Joseph, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident died on Thursday, July 3, 1997, at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. He was 83 years of age. He was born on December 29, 1913, in Bellingham, the son of Jerome & Elodie Vandacaova Corrion. He was raised and attended grade school in Alger, graduating from Burlington High School. He began a long career in the logging industry at age 15, working summers with his father on the Olympic Peninsula. He was united in marriage to Violet Heidman in Bellingham and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley. She preceded him in death in 1941. In 1943 he married Mona Robinson in Sedro-Woolley where they also made their home. Floyd worked for Lyman Timber for several years. Floyd and Bill Garling founded Finney Creek Log Co. in the early 1940's and later on in the 1950's Floyd, Bill along with Bob Hainer founded Apex Log Co. Floyed logged the woods in Skagit & Whatcom Counties for many years until his retirement in the early 1980's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley, the Elks Lodge #1604 in Mt. Vernon, and an honorary member of the American Legion in Sedro-Woolley. Floey is survived by his wife, Mona at the family home. CORY, Francis M., age 82, of 1815 Harris Avenue, passed away in a Seattle hospital Monday, June 26, (1950). CORY, Francis McGuire, 79, World War II veteran and Everett School teacher, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 23, 1997 in Everett. He was born on May 5, 1918 in Bellingham where he graduated from Bellingham High School. Francis enlisted in the Marines at the beginning of WWII, served in three campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he earned a B.A. in Education from Western Washington University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Washington. Francis taught in the Everett School District at Lowell Elementary, South Junior and Evergreen Junior for 30 years. Graveside services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley on Thursday, October 30, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Following graveside services, an open house reception will be held at the Everett American Legion, 2818 Wetmore in Everett. CORY, Mary K. Maneval, longtime owner and operator of a Bellingham grocery, died Saturday (Jan. 9, 1988) in a Bellingham nursing home. Mrs. Cory, 74, of 2500 Samish Way, was born June 3, 1913, in Barnes, Kan., and had been a Bellingham resident since 1923. She was a 1932 graduate of Fairhaven High School. She operated the Pacific Grocery Store in North Bellingham for about 30 years. Mrs. Cory was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1585 Auxiliary. For the last 10 years, she had divided her time between her Bellingham home and a ranch in Winthrop, Wash. Survivors include her husband, Birney S. Cory of Bellingham; a son, Kenneth Maneval of Bellingham; a daughter, Kathy Laurion of Oak Harbor; and six grandchildren. At her request, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are by Greenacres Crematorium.

COSBY, Donald LeRoy of 7371 Guide Meridian, Lynden, died suddenly on May 31, 1994 while visiting in Atlanta. He was 67. A memorial service will be held at Community Baptist Church in Bellingham at 7 tonight with Rev. Neil Thompson officiating. Burial was in Ten Mile Cemetery this morning. Mr. Cosby was born on July 13, 1926 in Kent County Mich.; a son of Allen Lesley and Margaret Campbell Cosby. He served in the Navy during World War II and worked for 25 years as a Chevron dealer in California. He came to Whatcom County in 1987 and he was a Texaco dealer at Northwest and Birchwood in Bellingham for two years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Bellingham and Gideon's International-Bellingham Camp. In Yuma, Ariz. on Feb. 2, 1947 he was married to Ellen See. she preceded her husband in death in 1992. Survivors include his son Allen Cosby and wife Cynthia of Atlanta; two daughters, Ellen McBee and husband Stephen of Bellingham and Chrystine Eddy and husband Jay of Lynden; three sisters, June Allen, Alice Christenson and Kathleen Maulden, all of California; and seven grandchildren. COSBY, Ellen N. of Lynden died Sunday, April 5, 1992, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born May 17, 1926, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Thomas and Esther See. She was married to Donald Cosby Feb. 17, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. They resided in San Jose, Calif., until moving to Whatcom County in 1987. In California she was a charter member of Foxworthy Baptist Church in San Jose and a former board member of California Baptist College in Riverside. In Bellingham, Mrs. Cosby was Sunday school director of the Community Baptist Church in Bellingham and a member of Gideon's Auxiliary Bellingham Camp. Mrs. Cosby is survived by her husband of the family home; son Allen Cosby of Atlanta; daughters, Ellen McBee of Bellingham and Chrystine Eddy of Lynden; seven grandchildren; a brother, Thomas see of Honolulu; and numerous other relatives. COSKEY, Roland P. "Rockey" 68, of 2236 Franklin St., died on Friday (Mar. 27, 1992) at his home. He was born to Arthur and Laura Coskey on Jan. 9, 1924 in Seattle. Mr. Coskey was a U. S. Army veteran who enlisted in May 1943 and achieved the rank of technician fourth grade. He was discharged in May 1946. He fished commercially most of his life, fishing in Alaskan and Puget Sound waters. Mr. Coskey loved to read and enjoyed golfing. Survivors include a long-time friend, Gladys Leese; three children; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Arrangements were with Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

COSS, Amelia A., age 96 of 1927 Dakin St., passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, (1977). Mrs. Coss was a 65 year resident of this community, a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. COSS, Donald W., 82, a Mount Vernon resident died at his home Wednesday July 27, 1994. He was born in Glidden Wisconsin June 15, 1912 the son of Joseph J. and Amelia Streubel Coss. As child he came to Washington with his parents and settled in Bellingham. He was educated there and graduated from the Bellingham High School with the class of 1930. After his schooling he started working as an automobile mechanic in Bellingham and later came to Mount Vernon where he continued his work as a mechanic until retirement. He served with the United States Army overseas during World War II and returned to the south Mount Vernon area after the war where he has resided since. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a member of the Automotive and Machinists Union. Survivors are: his wife Hazel at the family home, 4 daughters and their spouses, Bonnie and Harvey Schuch of Sedro Woolley, Patricia and Michael Walbrun of Camano Island, Doris and Duane Butler of Mount Vernon and Bea and Clay Waters of Everett, 2 sons William E. Coss of Burlington and Kenneth Coss of Friday Harbor, 1 sister Mildred Parker of Bolder City, Nevada, 1 brother Arthur Coss of Bellingham, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Kern Funeral Chapel Mount Vernon at 2:00 p.m. Friday July 29, 1994. Private burial will follow the services at The Scandinavian Cemetery at Milltown.

COSS, Earl R., Cpl., age 38, with the Army Air Corps, was killed in action as the result of a German dive-bombing attack on the troop transport on which he was a passenger, November 26, 1943. Cpl. Coss had taken part in the North African campaign as a crewman in a B-24 heavy bombardment squadron, and will be remembered locally as having co-piloted the first air mail plane from Bellingham in May of 1938. Surviving relatives are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Coss, of 1927 Dakin Street, Bellingham; two brothers, Arthur, of Bellingham and Donald, of Mount Vernon; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Parker, of Bellingham, and three nephews, Dale, Merwin and Robert Parker, also of Bellingham. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. M. A. P. Keller, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church of which Cpl. Coss was a member, Saturday, December 11, at 3:30 p.m. followed by military graveside services by the American Legion at Bay View.

COSS, Frank L., age 67, of 314 1/2 W. Holly, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, July 18, (1957). Mr. Coss had resided in this community for may years, and was a retired logger. Survivors are one son, Frank L. Coss Jr., USAF of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Harold James of Rt. No. 3, Ferndale; eight grandchildren. COSS, Frank L., age 50 of Marietta, passed away Sunday, June 27, (1976) in Manhatten, Kansas. Mr. Coss was an Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He is survived by one son, Dennis of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Sharon Fasthorse of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Freda James of Lummi. COSS, John Joseph, age 71, of 1927 Dakin Street, passed away at the home of his son at Route 3, Mt. Vernon Sunday, October 7, (1951). Mr. Coss had resided here for the past 38 years and had been in the employ of Bloedel-Donovan prior to his retirement. COSSENTINE, Arthur, age 63 years, passed away at a local hospital Friday, February 2, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mr. Cossentine had been a mill worker and leaves to survive one sister, Mrs. Cora Garvin, of Seattle. COSSER, George W., age 79 years who resided at 2817 Nevada St., passed away at home on Sunday May 13, (1956) following a brief illness. Mr. Cosser had been a resident of Bellingham vicinity for the past 50 years, and was a member of the Methodist Church. He leaves to survive his wife Marie Cosser; one sister, Mrs. Rose Hurreson of Florida, also several nieces and nephews. Rev. COSSER, Marie, passed away in a local nursing home, April 2, 1977. She was 78 years of age and resided in Bellingham since 1904. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. COSSETT, Tyler James, age five months, passed away on December 27, 1986 in Newport, WA. He was born on July 22, 1986 in Bellingham. COSSEY, Edna A., age 60 years, of 1706 I Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Mar. 15, (1955) following a short illness. Mrs. Cossey had been a resident of this city for the past 52 years and was owner and operator of Cossey's Beauty Shop. COSTANTI, D. James, age 80, died Saturday, March 17, 1990 at United General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born December 22, 1909 in Tacoma, WA. Son of Peter and Lena Costanti, immigrants from Yugoslavia. At the age of 3 he moved with his family to Bellingham, WA. At the age of 14 he moved to Arizona, where he completed his high school and went to the University of Arizona for 2 years. He returned to Bellingham and completed his education graduating from Whatcom Normal School (now Western Washington University). He taught school for three years at Edison and then became principal of the Edison Elementary School for 36 years, retiring from that job in June 1974. In the summer months Jim was a commercial fisherman. He operated various purse seine boats and in 1960 purchased the boat "Calendar". He and his son Dan fished together on the boat "Calender" (sic) and much of the crew consisted of Jim's grandsons. Jim was also a State Representative (R-40th District) from 1971-1973. On June 10, 1939 he married Frances Claire Hoffman; she preceded him in death March 16, 1979. Jim married Phyllis Albrecht on December 28, 1981. They have resided in Edison since. Mr. Costanti was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington; a charter member of the Edison Fire Department; B.P.O.E. No. 1604 for 29 years; Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association; Edison Sportsmans Club (Life Member); Washington Referee Association and was presently serving as a board member of The Blanchard-Edison Water Association, Washington Education Association. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; 3 sons and two daughters-in-law, Dan and Cathy Costanti of Burlington and Michael and Judy Hardie of Bellingham; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Ed Krall of Nevada, Missouri and Leanne and Jerry Maskell of Bow; sister, Andrea Kovacevich of Bellingham; 2 sisters-in-law, Pauline and Ruth Costanti of Bellingham; 9 grandsons, Tony and Mike Maskell of Bow, Chris, Jeff and Tim Krall of Nevada, Missouri, Ryan, Scott and Lee Costanti of Burlington, Alex Hardie of Bellingham; granddaughter, Jennifer Costanti of Burlington; numerous nieces and nephews. The Christian Prayer service for Jim Costanti will be Wednesday March 21, 1990 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deacon George Peterson will be officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will Thursday, March 22, at 4:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Reverends Emilio Gonzalez, Paul Magnano and Deacon George Peterson will be the Celebrants. COSTANTI, Frances C., age 60, of Edison passed away Fri. March 16, 1979 in her home following a brief illness. She was born June 4, 1918 at Bow, WA & was a 1936 graduate of Edison High School. Her marriage to D. James Costanti took place June 10, 1939 in Edison.

COSTANTI, Lena, age 73 years, of 1021 11th Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Feb. 26, (1957) following a brief illness. Mrs. Costanti had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 42 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the Altar Society, a charter member of the Catholic Forresters, a charter member of the Crotain Womens Benevolent Society of Tacoma, also a member of the Board of Visiting Nurses Association of Bellingham. Survivors include four sons, Peter Costanti, of the family home, Nicholas A. and Francis S., both of Bellingham; D. James of Edison, Wash.; one daughter, Mrs. Andrea Kovacevich, also of Bellingham; 10 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The remains rest in the chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home where rosary will be recited on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Bay View Cemetery. COSTANTI, Nicholas, of Bellingham, died Monday, May 14, 1984 at a local hospital at the age of 76. He had resided at 921 13th St., had been a resident of Bellingham since 1915 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bellingham yacht Club and a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. 194, and had been an active commercial fisherman for over 60 years. He leaves to survive his wife, Pauline; 1 son, Peter & wife Cheryl of Cain Lake; 2 daughters, Paula Jean & husband Jack Schuman of Bellingham, Nicolene Costanti Sacks & husband David Sacks of Cheviot Hills, L. COSTELLO, Imogene B., age 89 of Bellingham, passed away Saturday April 30, 1983. She was a past member of the Episcopal Church and taught 2nd & 3rd grades at Roosevelt School for 45 years. COSTELLO, Michael, age 54, of Rt. No. 1, Box 138, Sedro Woolley, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 15, (1961). A retired Navy Chief, Mr. Costello had been a resident of Bellingham for about ten years before moving to Skagit County a little more than a year ago. He was employed as a cook at Northern State Hospital and was a member of the Beverage & Culinary Workers and the Teamsters Unions. Surviving relatives include the widow, June M., at the family home; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Nola Sell of Sedro Woolley; a stepson, Dean R. Harrington of Pullman; and a brother and sister in Massachusetts, and a sister in California. Graveside services will be conducted by Chaplain Regan of the Whidbey Island N.A.S. COSTNER, Ralph M., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1992, at his home. He was 81. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 19 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Burial will follow in Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park. He was born Aug. 4, 1911, in Portland, Ore., to Louis and Grace Costner. He owned and operated a hair styling salon in Bremerton until his retirement 17 years ago. He was a 50-year member and past Worthy President of the Eagles in Bremerton. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Nile Temple and Scottish Rite. He moved to Bellingham in July from Oak Harbor. His interests included traveling and ocean cruises. Survivors include his son, Gary Costner of Bellingham; brother Santon Costner of Garden Grove, Calif.; sisters, Jean Briquelet of Oceanside, Calif., and Lois Tari of Pleasanton, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous niece and nephews. COTHERN, Stephen Bruce, 38, loving husband of Jennifer Hutton Cothern and devoted father of Shayne Bryce and Alia Elaun, passed away on April 6, 1985. Steve was born May 24, 1946 in Champaign, Illinois. He is also survived by his parents, Bruce and Bernice Cothern of Blaine and his many friends throughout the world. He was a Ranger at Birch Bay State Park, Twin Harbors, Fort Flagler, and Wanapum. He was active in the community as soccer association board member, past youth baseball couch, member of Jefferson Lodge No. 107 F&AM, member of Blaine Kiwanis, member of Washington State Park Ranger Association, and ranger representative for the Washington Public Employees Association - Parks Chapter. COTHERN, V. Bruce, age 69, of 7051 Helweg Ln., Blaine, WA passed away at home Oct. 20, 1988. He was born March 24, 1919, in Melvin, IL. He was a the son of Robert P. & Lula Jesse Cothern. His only son, Steven Bruce Cothern, a former Ranger at Birch Cay State Park preceded him in death in 1985. A sister Elsie & brother Royce Cothern also preceded him in death. Bruce had been a farmer all his life & lived on the family farm in Illinois. He worked for the Illinois State Dept. of Highways until retirement. He was a member of Ferndale Lodge No. 264 F&AM, also was a member of the Shrine. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City, IL, & was a member of the United Church of Ferndale. He had been an avid baseball player in his youth, enjoyed people most of all & will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; grandchildren, Shayne & Bruce Cothern, & Alia Elaun Cothern; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Cothern of Blaine; 1 brother Robert Cothern of Palm Coast, FL; 2 sisters, Edith Nelson of Martinez, CA & Alta Bennett of Dallas, TX & 7 much loved nieces & nephews. COTTRELL, Lee Alvin, age 62 years, of Lynden, Route 2, passed away at a local hospital Friday, September 19, (1947) following a short illness. She leaves to survive three daughters, Gladys Cottrell of Bellingham, Mrs. Alice Rollins of Minnesota, Mrs. Camile Price of Iowa; five sons, Harold, Carl and Milton of Iowa, Donald of Texas, and Lawrence of Illinois; also three sisters and one brother, and numerous grandchildren. The remains were forwarded by Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home to Bruce's Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, Iowa, where services will be conducted Saturday, October 1. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
