CRABILL, William E., age 71 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Annie Crabill, passed away at the family residence, 415 Laurel Street, Sunday, November 4, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mr. Crabill had been a resident of Bellingham for the past forty years and was a member of the Salvation Army, Citadel Corps. Beside his wife, he leaves an aunt, Mrs. Cole Hunt, St. Petersburg, Fla.; also numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m., conducted by Adj. B. W. Glaeser. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Annie - Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Crabtree, age 84, who died in Lynden on Friday, Dec. 4, 1987, were conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Ferndale Assembly of God Church with Rev. Arlyn Benson and Alfer Lofdahl officiating. Burial preceded in Lynden Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Mrs. Crabtree, formerly of 8357 Double Ditch Rd., Lynden, was born in Wright, Minn. on Dec. 4, 1903, and moved with her parents, John and Emy Lofdahl, to Ferndale in 1907. On August 2, 1922, she was married to widower Harry Crabtree and for 40 years they farmed on the Guide Meridian until moving to the Double Ditch Road in 1963; Mr. Crabtree died in 1971. Mrs, Crabtree was a charter member of the Lynden Assembly of God Church (now Word of Life), where she was a Sunday School teacher, janitor and played the banjo in the church orchestra. She was also active in the Lynden Senior Center and the Senior Center Band with whom she made several appearances, including a performance at Arizona State University. She is survived by seven sons, Maurice "Peg" in Arizona, Charles and wife Adeline of Bremerton, Erling and wife Pauline, Arnie and wife Joanne, Lowell "Sam" and wife Carol, Richard and wife Thelma, all of Lynden, and Ronald and wife Susan of Everson; three daughters, Mrs. Ann Estelle and husband LeRoy Hoyt of Bremerton, Alyce Mae Andrews of Anacortes, Mrs. DeNelda and husband Will Metcalf of Renton; a step-daughter, Mrs. Vivian Pitts of Ferndale; 30 grand- and 40 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Alfer Lofdahl and wife Lilian, all of Ferndale; two sisters, Gladys Lofdahl of Ferndale and Mrs. Lillian and husband George Hetterly of Lynden; two brothers-in-law, Lowell Grant of Bellingham and Arthur Crabtree of Lynden; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Sara Friberg of Ferndale; and numerous other relatives. Services were under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

CRABTREE, Arthur R., age 98, 308 W. Main St., Lynden, passed away in Lynden on Wed. June 22, 1988. He was born Oct. 18, 1889 and had been a lifetime Lynden resident. A retired dairy farmer & potato grower, Mr. Crabtree had also been a milk hauler for Darigold. He was a member of what is now The Word of Life Church in Lynden and had also served on the Lynden School Board for 17 years. He had been a member of the Delta Grange for more that 50 years and during WWII served on the Machinery Rationing Board and also served on the Agricultural Stabilization Board. He was also a member of the Washington State Potato Growers Assoc. He was married to Jennie VerDuin in Lynden on March 18, 1913. She passed away in 1970. He is survived by 4 sons, Archie & wife Clarice of Ferndale, Colby & wife Greta, Gerald & wife Ruth, Gene & wife Virginia all of Lynden; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. He was also preceded by 2 daughters, Minnie Marie Kingma & Genevieve Crabtree, son John Harry Crabtree, a great-grandson, Troy Nieuwendorp and a great granddaughter Casey Crabtree. Funeral services will be conducted on Sat. June 25 at 1 p.m. in the Word of Life Church with Revs. Cornelius Rientjes & Paul Landry officiating. Burial will follow in Monumenta Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Benjamin Henry, age 70 years, of Route 1, Lynden, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, (1956) following a lingering illness. He had resided in the Lynden district since 1909. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Englert, and Mrs. Ruth Miller, both of Route 1, Ferndale; five sons, Jules, of Route 1, Lynden; Ben Jr., of Route 1, Ferndale; Dave, Vince and Keith, all of Route 1, Lynden; 19 grandchildren; two brothers, J. B. Crabtree, of Hubbard, Iowa, and Dezell, of Alden, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. from the Assembly of God Church in Lynden with Rev. John Scaggs officiating. Interment in the Lynden Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

CRABTREE, Byron Colby, age 95 years of 1476 Marine Drive, passed away in a local hospital Friday, April 15, (1960). Mr. Crabtree had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1889. Prior to retiring and moving to Bellingham in 1951 he had farmed in the Lynden area. He was a member of the Calvary Temple in Bellingham. Survivors are his wife, Jessie; 3 sons, Arthur and Harry of Lynden, and Henry of Tacoma; 3 daughters, Mrs. Laura E. Cole of Custer, Mrs. May Easterbrook of Rt. No. 1, Sumas and Mrs. Catherine Bucholz of El Cajon, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Elliott of Eugene, Oregon; also numerous nieces and nephews including John Bussard of Oakville, Washington and 27 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Lynden Assembly of God Church Tuesday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Allan Wood officiating, assisted by the Rev. A. W. Nelson. Burial will follow in the Lynden Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

CRABTREE, Coral Virginia, age 85 of 1476 Marine Drive, passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, September 16, (1956) following a short illness. Mrs. Crabtree had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 60 years and was a member of the Calvary Temple Church. Survivors include her husband, Byron C.; 2 nieces, Mrs. Vera Coral Anderson of Seattle and Mrs. Virginia Pearl White of San Francisco; 2 nephews, A. Amasa Miller of New York and Vern M. Miller of Sacramento, California. Many other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Wood officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Dean Ray, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Crabtree, Rt. No. 2, Everson, passed away following birth in a local hospital Tuesday, May 7, (1957). Survivors in addition to the parents are two brothers, Bobby Joe and Tommy Lee; four sisters, Gene Mae, Correan, Margaret Sue, and Mary Louise, all at the family home; grandmother, Mrs. Emma Crabtree of Cave City, Ark., and numerous aunts and uncles. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Scaggs, pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Lynden, Thursday, May 9, at 3 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home.

CRABTREE, Dorothy A. - Funeral services for Dorothy A. Crabtree, of Lynden, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, in the Lynden United Methodist Church with Pastor Joyce O'Connor-Magee officiating. Private burial will precede in Lynden Cemetery. Mrs. Crabtree died at the Touch of Country Family Home near Sumas on Sunday, July 6, (1997). She was 99. She was born May 1, 1898 in Springfield, Illinois to Dr. Albert W. and Clara (Mendonsa) Herre. In 1902 the family moved to California where she spent most of her childhood and the family survived the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. In 1912 her family moved to Whatcom County where her father taught in the Science Department at Bellingham Normal School, now Western Washington University. She graduated from Whatcom High School and the Normal School and then taught for a few years at the Northwood School near Lynden. She was married to Walter Crabtree in Lynden on March 5, 1920 and eventually moved to South Bend, WA where they lived most of the married life. Following Mr. Crabtree's retirement from the trucking business, they returned to Lynden in 1959. Dorothy enjoyed being a homemaker, and was known among her family and friends for her baking and cooking. She had many interest outside of her family that included reading, gardening, traveling and music. She played piano into her nineties, and in her younger days accompanied soloists and group singing. She was a member of the Lynden United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Willapa Chapter and belonged to several social and volunteer groups in South Bend. She served on the OPA price panel for the southern part of the state during World War II and also volunteered as an airplane spotter. She was preceded by her husband in 1969; her younger son Robert H. Crabtree in 1986; grandson Robert E. Crabtree in 1996; two sisters and two brothers. Dorothy is survived by a son Edgar L. Crabtree and his wife Evelia Riveron of Mexico City; daughter Kathleen Zuidmeer and husband Everett of Lynden; six grand; twelve great-grand and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Services are under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

CRABTREE, Edgar Charles, age 65, of 3017 Elm St., passed away in a local hospital, Monday, Nov. 10, (1958) following a lingering illness. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Northwood Grange. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth; one son, Charles; two step-sons, Francis and Bruce Wright, all of the family home; two brothers, Herbert of Sumas and Walter of South Bend, Wash.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. W. Wheeler of Bellingham officiating. Final resting place, Lynden Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Elaine Marie, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Tues. May 10, 1994 in Bellingham. She was born to Tom and Evelyn Alderson in Ferndale on June 11, 1919. She graduated from Ferndale High School in 1938. She married John H. Crabtree in 1938. Elaine worked as a secretary for 35 years for the Plumbers and Fitters Local 40 and retired in 1982. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family as well as traveling with her sister, Pearl. She was known to her family as "Unclemama". She is survived by her sister, Pearl Fassett of Port Washington, Wisconsin; sister, Charlotte Barr of Ferndale, WA; brother Tom and wife Marjorie Alderson of Bellingham, WA; daughter, Connie and husband Rich Nieuwendorp of Bellingham, WA; son John and wife Billie Crabtree of Bellingham; two grandchildren, Monte Nieuwendorp, Mona Wilson and preceded in death by grandson, R. Troy Nieuwendorp; four great grandchildren, Brock and Jesse Nieuwendorp, Amy and Ryan Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many beloved friends. CRABTREE, Emily R., age 39 of Blaine passed away in a local hospital Saturday morning, September 10, (1949) following a lingering illness. Surviving relatives include her husband, L. R. Crabtree; one daughter Lorinda Susan; her father, James C. Hovey of New Brunswick, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Harry H. Ward of Montreal, and Miss Elizabeth Hovey of Toronto; two brothers, J. Carter Hovey of Exitor, Ontario, and Edmond Hovey of South Porcupine, Ontario. Funeral services will be conducted in the Episcopal church in Blaine, Monday, September 12, at 11 a.m. under the direction of the McKinney Funeral Home of Blaine with the Rev. Cannon E. B. Smith officiating. Cremation.

CRABTREE, Etta Pauline, age 80, went to be with her Lord on January 31, 2005 at the Christian Healthcare Center in Lynden. Born on March 16, 1924 to Charles and Clarcie Chronister in Van Buren, Missouri, she moved to Lynden at age 16. She was married to Erling Crabtree on June 10, 1949 and together they raised four children. Pauline was active in her church, Lynden Assembly of God, and was a tireless worker who sewed and crocheted, raised a large garden, and canned countless quarts of fruits and vegetables. She was preceded in death by her brothers Audrain and Robert Chronister, and sister Thela Burns.

CRABTREE, George L., age 71 years, of Route 3, Lynden, passed away at his home, Friday, March 22, (1957) following a short illness. Mr. Crabtree came to the Lynden district in 1888, and resided her until 1914 when he left to make his home in Idaho and Oregon, returning here three years ago. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge, Sumas Grange, Whatcom County Dairymen's Association and the Washington Farmer's Co-op. Survivors include his wife, Katie; two step daughters, Mrs. Ray Fowler and Mrs. Ethel Elsner, both of Seattle. Two step sons, Henry A. Ehlers, of Route 3, Lynden, and F. C. Ehlers of Blaine. Three brothers, Herb, of Sumas, Walter, of South Bend, Washington, and Edgar, of Lynden. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, with Rev. Jack Matheis officiating. Interment, Clearbrook Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Gerald - Visitation for Gerald Crabtree of Lynden will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Word of Life Church in Lynden, with the Rev. Curt DeGraaff officiating. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale. Mr. Crabtree died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his home. He was 80. Born Jan. 15, 1919, to Arthur and Jennie (Verduin) Crabtree, he graduated from Lynden High School in 1938. On Feb. 4, 1939, he married Ruth Ashton in Mount Vernon. Mr. Crabtree was a career farmer and lifetime horseman who raised seed potatoes for many years. He focused on breeding, training, gaming and racing Appaloosas and harness horses, along with many riding and packing trips into the hills. He also had a pioneer oxen team that he drove in many local parades. Mr. Crabtree was a member of the Washington Seed Potato Commission, the Delta Grange, Nooksack Valley Riders, Washington State Horseman Association and the U.S. Trotting Association. He also was a charter member of the Appaloosa Club. His brother John Crabtree, sisters Genevieve Crabtree and Minnie Kingma, and one grandchild preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, of the family home daughter Monica Marshall of Custer sons Bob Crabtree of Bellingham, William and Jim Crabtree, both of Custer, and Jerry Crabtree of Everson 17 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren brothers Archie, Colby and Gene Crabtree, all of Lynden and many other relatives.

CRABTREE, Herbert, age 84 of Route 1, Sumas, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, November 8, (1963). He had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1887 and had farmed in the Sumas area for the past 50 years. He was a member of the Sumas Grange and Sumas Lodge No. 85 I.O.O.F. Surviving are one brother, Walter Crabtree of Lynden. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas Friday, November 22, at 11:00 a.m. with rev. Marvin Jordan Officiating with Sumas Lodge No. 85 I.O.O.F. participating. Cremation will follow.

CRABTREE, Jessie M., age 85, formerly of 1476 Marine Drive, Bellingham, passed away in a local rest home Monday, April 26, (1965). A resident of Seattle and Bellingham for the past 47 years, she was a member of the Calvary Temple, Bellingham. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Leslie Higginbottom of Seattle; 1 son, John E. Gardner of Los Angeles; 1 brother, W. Benton McClure of Seattle; also 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Calvary Temple in Bellingham Saturday, May 1, at 2 p.m. with Rev. CRABTREE, John H., age 65, 349 W. Main St., Lynden, passed away in a Bellingham hospital on Thurs. Aug. 6, 1981. A lifetime Lynden resident, Mr. Crabtree had been employed for 24 years by Elliot & Verduin Standard Oil Distributors and for the past 20 years had been a dairy farmer. He had attended the Lynden Assembly of god Church, was a member of the Delta Grange and was married to Alice Moline in Marysville on Oct. 7, 1955. He is survived by his wife Alice; 2 daughters, Miss Cindy Crabtree & Connie Nieuwendorp and a son John M. Crabtree all of Bellingham; 3 grandchildren; his father, Mr. Arthur Crabtree of Lynden; 4 brothers, Colby of Everson, Archie of Ferndale, Gerald of Custer and Gene of Lynden; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews. Private family interment services will be conducted on Mon. Aug. 10 at 12:30 p.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park. CRABTREE, Kacey Patricia, infant daughter of Bob & Terri Crabtree, 4741 Hannegan Rd., Bellingham, passed away suddenly Sat. Nov. 19, (1977). Besides her parents she is survived by a sister, Kelli, grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Crabtree of Lynden and Mr. & Mrs. Marion Ausink of Lynden, great-grandparents, Mr. Arthur Crabtree of Lynden and Mrs. Ada Compaan, Artesia, Calif., and numerous cousins. Funeral services were conducted on Mon. Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Slater officiating. Burial followed in Greenacres Memorial Park.

CRABTREE, Katie O. Ehlers, age 86, of 2507 Elm St., passed away Tues., Jan. 3, (1978). She had been a resident of the Lynden area since 1895 and was a member of the Clamdiggers Assn., the Rebekah Lodge, Senior Activity Center and the Northwood Grange. Surviving are a son, Henry of Lynden; 2 daughters, Ethel Lundh and Effie Fowler both of Seattle. Also 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, F. C. (Dick) in Sept. 1977. Private funeral services will be held in Veroskes Bellingham Chapel, Mon., Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Koornnef officiating. Burial in the Lakeside Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Lorenzo R. "Larry" age 85, of 1282 4th St., Blaine, passed away Wed. Feb. 20, 1991 at St. Joseph Hospital S. Campus. He was born Aug. 13, 1905 in New York City. He was a Washington resident most of his life after living in Panama, Arizona & California. He was a member and contributor to Kulshan Lodge #186 F.&A.M., Nooksack Lodge #105 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, Order of Eastern Star, DeMolay Dad Adviser, Mt. Baker Orchid Society and Christ Episcopal Church. He played football for the W.S.U. Cougars at the Rose Bowl in 1927. Memorial services are being held Fri. Feb. 22, at Christ Episcopal Church, 4th & Boblett, Blaine at 1:00 p.m. with Father Ron Reddell officiating. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of the family home, daughter Lorinda and husband Jerry Dierks, granddaughters Stacy and Julie, all of Long Beach, CA; sisters, Margaret Keith of Laguna Hills, CA and Marcella Dove of Soldotna, AK; and nieces and nephews. Cremation by Greenacres Crematorium with private family graveside service at Greenacres Memorial Park.

CRABTREE, Marla D., 40, of 6015 Sunshine Drive, Ferndale, passed away at Saturday, March 23, 1991. She was born in Bellingham on July 20, 1950 and was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. She was a member of Whatcom Christian Fellowship Church of Ferndale; worked for the Whatcom Medical Bureau for several years; was a very devoted mother to her daughter, Amanda; and loved arts and crafts, sewing and working in her garden. Survivors include her daughter Amanda Crabtree of the family home; parents Nadine and Jerry Westby of Bellingham and Arnie and Joanne Crabtree of Lynden; two brothers, Glen Crabtree of Bellingham and Air Force Staff Sgt. Bruce Crabtree of Naples, Italy; two sisters, Marcy and Rick Jansen of Bellingham and Susan McFarland of Ferndale; grandmother Mildred Westby of Bellingham and numerous other relatives. Visitation hours are from 6-8 p.m. today and Thursday at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Good News Fellowship Church of Ferndale with Pastor Jerry Gillians officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

CRABTREE, Mary Beatrice, age 86, of Route 1, Lynden, passed away at her home Thursday morning, June 1, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Crabtree had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past 61 years. She was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in Lynden and a member of the Clam Diggers Association and the W.C.T.U. Surviving relatives include her husband, B. C. Crabtree; two daughters, Mrs. May Easterbrook, of Sumas, and Mrs. Laura Cole, of Route 1, Custer; two sons, Arthur and Harry, both of Route 1, Lynden; 25 grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Survivors also include Mrs. Catherine Buckholz and Henry Crabtree, both of Tacoma, and John Buzzard, of Route 3, Lynden, who were raised by Mrs. Crabtree. Funeral services will be conducted within the Assembly of God Church in Lynden, Saturday, June 3, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Chittim officiating. Interment in the Lynden Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

CRABTREE, Robert H., age 57, died Saturday Jan. 18, (1986) in Tonopah, Nevada. Memorial services will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, with private family services and interment to follow at Lynden Cemetery. Mr. Crabtree was an archaeologist with the Department of the Interior. He was frequent visitor with his relatives in Lynden. He is survived by a son, Evan Crabtree of Las Vegas; a daughter, Allison, and husband Nicholas Stanbury of Alameda, Calif.; his mother, Dorothy Crabtree of Lynden; a brother, Edgar Crabtree of Mexico City; a sister, Kathleen Zuidmeer and husband Everett of Lynden; and a granddaughter, Letitia Dorothy of Alameda, Calif.

CRABTREE, Robin Marie - Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for Robin Marie Crabtree, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Crabtree of Rt. 1, Lynden. The baby died at birth Thursday (Dec. 20, 1962) in a local hospital. Surviving the infant in addition to her parents, are her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crabtree and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larson of Lynden, and a great grandmother, Mrs. Leana Tollum of Everson. The services will be in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.

CRABTREE, William H., age 76 years, passed away Tuesday, January 16, (1945) at his home, Route 1, Lynden. Mr. Crabtree first came to Lynden in 1889 and had for the past year and a half made his home there again. In his later years he had been active in religious work. He is survived by his widow, Eva; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Peterson, of Brainerd, Minn., and Mrs. Esther Clark; four sons, Arlie, of Hartford, Wash., Archie, of Everett, and Herman and Myrl, of Iowa; a brother, B. B. Crabtree, of Route 1, Lynden; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Elliott, of Eugene, and many other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 20, at 2 p.m. from the Knapp & Knapp Funeral Home in Lynden with the Rev. E. Henning Seaberg officiating. Interment will be in the Lynden Cemetery.

CRAFT, Lucia, age 82 years, of 530 Garden Street, passed away at a local hospital Saturday morning, December 28, (1946). Mrs. Craft had been a resident of this community for approximately 50 years, and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. Immediate surviving relatives include one daughter, Betty Craft Cox, city; two grandsons, Jack Cox, city, and Robert Pelouze, lieutenant in the Maritime service. The remains are resting at the Westford-Beck Funeral Home where rosary will be said Monday evening, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. within the Church of the Assumption. Requiem high mass will be sung Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. G. Stafford, celebrant. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.

CRAFTS, Frederick J., age 76, of 3001 Eldridge Ave., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, June 17, (1956). Surviving relatives are his widow, Jane B., at home; one son, Fred C., in Eugene, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Ellen Wiseman of Rapids, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary K. CRAIG, Brennan Gray - A memorial service for Brennan Gray Craig will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Birchwood Presbyterian Church. CRAIG, Constance A. "Connie" of Birch Bay died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. She was 87. Born Oct. 13, 1909, in Swindon, England, to George and Mary (Waite) Jones, she was a Whatcom County resident for 25 years. Survivors include her husband, Cecil Craig, of Birch Bay, and relatives in Canada. A family service will be held. Services are under the direction of Greenacres Funeral Home.

CRAIG, Dora Victoria, age 76, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Craig Cole of 22_, Middlefield Road, Tuesday, September 28, (1948). Mrs. Craig had been a resident of this community for the past year and one-half and leaves to survive, aside from her daughter, one sister, Mrs. L. G. Macquire, of San Francisco, Calif. The remains will be forwarded by the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth to Arthur A. Wright & Son in Seattle where services will be conducted Friday, October 1, followed by cremation.

CRAIG, Dorothy Helen Braddon, age 66, of 2400 Donovan St., Bellingham, WA, passed away Dec. 7, 1994 at her home. Mrs. Craig was born June 6, 1928 in Coopertown, North Dakota to Oscar and Clara Hougen Gullickson. She was co-owner of the mobile home park where she and her husband, Jim, lived. Mrs. Craig is bereaved by two daughters, Sandi Ambrose and Jerre Bouma and their husbands of Blaine; also much loved children of husband Jim, daughter's, Randa Thompson [of OH], Jamie Armstrong [of Salt Spring Island, B.C.] and sons, Bryan, Darin [of Salt Spring Island] and Brock; also fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five sisters and two brothers, Betty Everett of Ferndale, Muriel Wampler of Woodland, WA, Delores Oberst of Centerville, OH, Hazel Hobart of Lake Elsinore, CA; Sharon Polson of Bellingham, George Gullickson of Oxnard, CA, Ronald Gullickson of Battle Ground, WA; several nieces and nephews and many good friends. CRAIG, Harold James "Jim" of Bellingham died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, Apache Junction, Ariz. He was 68. A memorial service will be held later. His ashes will be placed in Greenacres Memorial Park. He was born March 25, 1929, to Harold and Zelpha Hickok Craig in Bellingham. Mr. Craig was manager of Southend Mobile Estates. After retiring, he lived in Arizona during the winter months. A member of Blaine Eagles Club F.O.E. No. 3029, Mr. Craig enjoyed playing pool, fishing and square dancing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and sister Donna Martinson. CRAIG, James Owen, age 43 years, Tacoma, Wash., but formerly of Sumas, Wash., passed away suddenly at San Francisco, Calif., Wednesday, June 20, (1945). Mr. Craig had been a resident of Whatcom County for about forty years and was a member of the Church of Christ of Sumas. He was, at the time of his passing, serving with the Merchant Marine. CRAIG, Lloyd Richard, 59, a resident of the Cornelius community died Sat. June 25, 1994 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 11:00 a.m.. at the Fuiten-Rose Chapel 2308 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove, with Lt. Gerald A. Gattis of the Salvation Army officiating, with remembrances said by family members. Private interment rites will follow. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the service. Born June 12, 1935 in Seattle to the late John Wesley Craig and Mary Elizabeth (Barnhart) Craig. He was raised in Maple Valley, WA and had resided in Bellingham, where he worked as a long haul truck driver. He also owned Craig's Pilot Car Service and later drove for Barrett Mobile Home Transport, Inc. After becoming disabled he retired in 1992 and in March of 1994 he moved to the Hillsboro community to be near his daughter and family and recently moved to his present home in Cornelius. He enjoyed traveling, talking on his C. B. and listening to his scanner; he had a special love for truck driving. Survivors include his children and their spouses, John C. and Roxanne Craig of Black Diamond, Debbie S. and Kelly Critser of Hillsboro, OR, Timothy I. "Tim" Leach of Forest Grove, OR; 3 brothers, Joe of Woodland, Warren of Sultan & Chester L. of Everett; 3 sisters, Berta [Eichman] of Woodland, WA, Lorraine Davidson of Everett, Jeanette Steiner of Carlton, WA; 4 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

CRAIG, Marion May, died Feb. 20, 1994 in Kirkland of complications from a stroke she suffered on Dec. 31, 1993. She and her husband Walter were longtime residents of Whatcom County. Her husband preceded her in death in February 1992. Mrs. Craig was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1900 and moved to Bellingham with her family when she was 19 years old. She graduated from Bellingham Normal School and had her first teaching job at the Clearbrook School, where she taught for three years. During this time she met and married Walter Craig and they had four children: Wayne, Lois, Eileen and Robert. Wayne was killed in an airplane crash near Maple Falls in 1954. For the past 25 years they have resided in Kirkland. Mrs. Craig is survived by children Lois, Eileen and Robert, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was a Greenacres Memorial Park.

CRAIG, Nellie E., 85, a resident of Burlington and formerly of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, December 16, 1989 at United General Hospital. She was born December 22, 1903 in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, Canada. She had worked as a stenographer in her early years and married H. S. "Archie" Craig on July 11, 1925 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They lived in Milwaukee then moved to Illinois in 1928 and to Mount Vernon in 1955. She became a United States citizen in 1941. She is survived by one sister, Edith May Hardy of British Columbia, Canada; one niece, Frances Lord of British Columbia; and one great-niece, June Davis of British Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband H. A. (sic) "Archie" Craig in 1981. Cremation was under direction of Kern Funeral Home.

CRAIG, Richard James of Blaine died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Bellingham. He was 60. A memorial service was held Thursday in Blaine. Born Sept. 18, 1936, to Charles and Alma Sweanen Craig in Elgin, Ill., he was owner and operator of Haynie Hill Construction Co. Mr. Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of the family home; sons Chip Craig, Vern Craig and Rusty Craig, all of Blaine; daughters Kelly Craig of Long Island, N.Y., Tracy Todd of Blaine and Tami Alderson of Everson; and 11 grandchildren. CRAIG, Robert A., 75, of Bellingham died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in Bellingham. Mr. Craig was born to Alexander M. and Zoe I. (McFarland) Craig on July 22, 1924, in LaChine, Quebec, Canada. He married his wife Nancy on Dec 28, 1956 in Muskegon, Mich. Mr. Craig was a former resident of Muskegon, Mich. and lived the past 15 years in Bellingham. He served in the Canadian Naval Forces during World War II, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Perch Point Conservation Club in Fairhaven, Mich. He retired from Grand Truck Railway, a division of the Canadian National Railway, after 36 years. He enjoyed boating and building model ships. Survivors in addition to his wife are sons Robert W. Craig of Phoenix, Ariz. and Michael Craig of Bellingham; stepson Joseph Masar of Muskegon; brother Douglas Craig of Detroit; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

CRAIG, Walter Beech, 95, of Kirkland passed away Feb. 12, 1992 at his home. He was born in Pulaski, Tenn. on Oct. 17, 1896. He came to the Custer area in 1905 with his parents, four sisters and three brothers. They later moved to Sumas. As a young man he helped his brother farm and worked in wheat fields in the Midwest. he went to college for a time and served in World War I. He was one of the few surviving World War I veterans in the state. In the early 1920's he started trucking as one of the first contract milk haulers for Dairgold in Whatcom County. He then built a lumber mill in Everson, another off the Mount Baker Highway and one in Mount Vernon. He also built a major sawmill in Oregon. In 1947 he combined with Hank Jansen to buy a small freight company in Lynden called Lynden Transfer. They later added a milk-hauling company, Milky Way. Both companies flourished in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Craig sold his interest to Jansen in the early 1960's and concentrated on real estate investments in the Kirkland area, where he had moved and built a home. He later returned to the sawmill business and built a mill and dry kiln in Bellevue. He sold his interests in them in the mid 1970's. He married his wife Marion Lindell in 1923 and they built a home at Van Buren. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this summer. He was a member of the Nooksack Valley School Board for 20 years. He was a member of the Everson Lions Club and a long time member of Nooksack Advent Christian Church. He was buried Feb. 14 at Greenacres Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife Marion; a son, Robert Craig of Kirkland; two daughter, Lois Gayda and Eileen Quine, both of Kirkland; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Wayne, died in 1953.

CRAIG, Wayne W., age 29, of Everson Rt. 1, passed away Saturday, March 20, (1954) as a result of an accident. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Advent Christian Church at Nooksack. He is survived by his wife, Joan; one son, Scott Alan; one daughter, Kathleen; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Craig of Everson Rt. 1; one brother, Robert, of Everson Rt. 1; two sisters, Mrs. Kurt Gayda of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Robert Quine of Powers, Ore.; his grandfather, Charles J. CRAIN, Maurice B., formerly of Bellingham, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 1994, in a Port Angeles nursing home. He was 79. A private service will be Sunday. Private burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park. Born March 11, 1915, to John Silas and Oreta Sibal Hoover Crain in Hugo, Okla., he studied advanced hair design. He w as a hair designer in the Spokane area in 1937. He moved to Seattle in 1953 and was president of the Hair Fashion Association. In 1959, he moved to Bellingham, where he owned his own hair salons. Maurice's of Wahls and Maurice's in the former Bellingham Mall. He was a member of the National Hair Fashion Committee. Mr. Crain retired in 1983. Survivors include daughters Megan O. Crain of Port Angeles, Melinda C. Crain and Maureen Crain Garcia, both of Belfair, and 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was born October 5, 1909 in Humphrey, NY and lived in Olean, NY area until moving to Bellingham in 1954. She was a member of Garden Street Methodist Church, and had been a nurses aid at Needham's for many years. She leaves to survive two sons: William Crainer and wife Barbara of New York, Terry Crainer and wife Sally of Bellingham; two daughters: Virginia Knowlton and husband Charles of New York, Beverly Densmore and husband Bud of Bellingham; 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; a brother Raymond Wilbur of New York; and numerous nieces & nephews. CRAINER, Nina, passed away September 16, 2002. She was 77, born October 26, 1924 to Adelbert and Eugenia Tarbox in New York. Nina was retired from Bellingham Cold Storage, and loved to play bingo. She was a member, and Woman of the Year of the Bellingham Emblem Club. She did crochet and needlepoint, donating her work to the Emblem Club. Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Max seven brothers, and three sisters. CRAMER, Amanda Hamilton - Services for Amanda "Mandy" Hamilton Cramer, 84, of Burlington will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hulbush Funeral home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery. Mrs. Cramer died Monday (Aug. 6, 1991) at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. She was the granddaughter of William Hamilton, founder of the town of Hamilton, in Skagit County. She was born Amanda Hamilton on Feb. 14, 1907, in Victoria Mills. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School and Washington State University. She enjoyed square dancing. She and Charles A. Cramer married on Aug. 11, 1930, in Vancouver, B.C. He survives her at the family home. Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia Noyes of Burlington; a sister, Daisy Staveness of Rio, Wis.; two grandchildren. She worked as a general contractor until her retirement. Mrs. Cramer was a member of Daughters of the Nile, Holly Chapter No. 199, Order of Eastern Star, Skagit County Chapter No. 2, Territorial Daughters, Mount Vernon Emblem Club No. 164, Skagit County Pioneers Association and the Skagit County Historical Society. CRAMER, Ava, age 76, passed away Wednesday, March 14, (1956) at the family home in Blaine. She and her husband were former publishers of the Blaine Journal. She is survived by her husband, James of Blaine; one son, Mercade of Alhambra, Calif.; and three grandchildren. CRAMER, Bertha May - Funeral services for Bertha May Cramer, age 87, formerly of 956 VanDyk Road, Lynden, were conducted Saturday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. John Finney officiating. Burial followed at Lynden Cemetery. Mrs. Cramer, who died on Tuesday, Aug. 1, (1978) at the Lynden Christian Rest Home was born May 5, 1891 at Platte, S. Dakota, the eighth child of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelson. The family moved in 1902, by covered wagon, from S. Dak. to Phillipsburg, Kansas, then came to Lynden in 1912, and resided on a farm in the North Prairie district, on Double Ditch road. In 1915, she was married to Joe Cramer of North Prairie. They settled on a 10-acre farm in the Greenwood district in 1920. She was left a widow in 1924, with three children, and continued to operate a chicken and dairy farm for the following 45 years. She was a seasonal employee of Kale Canning Co. at Everson for a considerable number of years. She leaves a son, Joe O. Cramer of W. Wiser Lake Road, Ferndale; a daughter, Rita Elsner of Everson; three sisters-in-law, Stella Nelson and Ellen Nelson of Lynden, and Florence Nelson of Sedro Woolley; a brother-in-law, Jake L. Cramer of Lynden; 9 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her son Kenneth passed away in 1954. She was a member of the Lynden United Methodist Church, of the Be Of Service Home Demonstration Club; the Greenwood Neighborhood Club; and she was a 50-year member of Ten Mile Grange.

CRAMER, Chester F., 83, 2500 Samish Way, died Friday (Nov. 18, 1983). He was born in Sandborn, N. D., and had been a local resident for a short time. CRAMER, Clara M., age 70, of 3605 Wilson Street, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Sept. 13, (1953). Miss Cramer had resided in this community for the past 25 years. She was a retired nurse, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Altrusa Club, the Order of Easter Star, Triangle Chapter No. 172 of Galva, Kansas, Chapter "F" of the P.E.O., the Epsilon Guild of the Orthopedic, Jane A. Delano Post o. 185, and a veteran of the First World War with the Army Nurse Corp. Surviving relatives include two sisters: Mrs. Maude B. Smith of Little River, Kansas, and Mrs. Myrtle C. Dunsford of Bellingham, and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Harry Klein of Edmonds, Wash., Miss Eileen Morrison of Aberdeen, Mrs. Robert Tschudy of Boulder, Colo., Willard Dunsford of Culver City, Calif., and Lyle W. Smith of Lyons, Kas. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick, Tuesday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. The remains will be forwarded to Salina, Kas., for interment.

CRAMER, Clinton "Ted" age 84, of Bellingham died August 12, 1994 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born November 16, 1909, to Kathryn and William Cramer in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Ted moved to Bellingham in 1927 graduating from Whatcom High School in 1929. He was married to Lois Meek October 7, 1934. He spent most of his life wor[k]ing as a mechanic and as a musician, playing trumpet in various bands and orchestras. The last band he played with before his retirement was the accidentals, playing at the Forest Grove near Blaine. His hobbies included music, fishing, and traveling. Ted and Lois made numerous trips to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he and his son enjoyed jamming with other musicians at the Kaneohe Yacht Club. He will be missed and remembered for his great sense of humor and devotion to his wife and family. Ted was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Lois of the family home; daughter Beverly Gallaher of Bellingham; son Bill Cramer and wife Gloria of Bellingham, formerly of Hawaii; 5 grandchildren: Deb Gallaher, Pat Gallaher, Steve Galllaher, Tom Gallaher and wife Carol, and Tammy Cramer; 3 grandchildren by marriage: David, Jerry and James McNorton; and 4 great grandchildren. CRAMER, Earl "Curly" age 68, of East Sound, passed away at home Monday, November 4, (1968). Mr. Cramer was a twenty-year resident of this City before moving to East Sound, where he operated a resort prior to his retirement. He was a charter member of Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion; a member of Bellingham Lodge No. 194, B.P.O.E.; I.O.O.F. Lodge, Orcas Island, and the Orcas Island County Club. CRAMER, Jacob L., a farmer for many years in Whatcom County, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1987, in Lynden. Mr. Cramer, age 89,formerly of 630 Loomis Trail Rd., Lynden, was born on Christmas Day, 1897, in the Fairhaven district of Bellingham, the fifth child of Joseph and Margaret Cramer. He lived in the county all his life and operated a dairy farm on the Depot Road north of Lynden. He was a member of the Lynden United Methodist Church. His wife, Mabel, died in 1983. Survivors are several nephews and nieces, Joe Cramer and wife Willie; Rita Elsner and husband Carl; Irene Eide and husband, Soren; Hazel Rule of Monroe; Clyde Reeve of Grants Pass, Ore.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in the Gillies Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Fred Rardon officiating. Burial followed in Lynden Cemetery.

CRAMER, William Kenneth, son of Mrs. Kathryn Cramer, 1310 Humboldt Street, passed away at Los Angeles, California, Wednesday, February 6, (1946). He was a veteran of World War II, having served four years in the U. S. army, two of which was spent in India. He received his discharge in September, 1945. Prior to his enlistment he was employed as a musician in Hollywood, California. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Born May 15, 1906 in Ponoka, Albeta, Canada to Andrew J. and Melissa (Rupe) Crandall, he had been a Whatcom County resident for 63 years. Mr. Crandall married Edna I. VanderYacht, December 27, 1930 in Lynden. He was active in the Victor Sunday School; a member of Goshen Grange and an executive committeeman of The Washington State grange for 9 years. His hobbies included farming and fishing. CRANDALL, Chrissie F., age 86, of Olympia, WA formerly of Bellingham, passed away Mon., Jan. 11, 1988 at a local nursing home. She was born Oct. 1, 1901 in Nebraska & was married to George H. Crandall. Her husband preceded her in death in 1969. She had been a Kitchen Manager in several restaurant/hotel businesses including the Hotel Leopold in Bellingham & in her earlier yrs at the Hotel Olympian in Olympia. CRANDALL, Ernest, age 73, formerly of Lynden, passed away Dec. 6, 1985, at the Northcott Nursing Home in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Crandall was born on June 28, 1912, at Ponoka. In 1928 he moved with his parents to Lynden. He married Arlene Ehlers in 1937 and they farmed in the area. The family moved to the Ferrybank District in Alberta in 1959, where Ernie resumed farming until his health failed and he moved into the Northcott Nursing Home. Ernie was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting. He had a loving and generous nature. He is survived by his wife Arlene; one son, James and his wife Janet of the Ferrybank District; two daughters, Shirley Greene and her husband Robert of the Ferrybank District, and Joan Sutton of Ponoka; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Edith Santee of the Ferrybank District; two half-brothers, Robert Crandall of Calgary, and Hugh Crandall of Elko, Nevada; four half-sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Stewart of Ponoka, Mrs. Elsie Bragg of the Ferrybank District, Mrs. Marie Bragg of Ponoka and Mrs. Dixie Malchor of the Bashaw District; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Alva, and one sister, Ella. CRANDALL, Laura C. - A graveside service for Laura C. Crandall will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Crandall, an employee at Bellingham Golf and Country Club for many years, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, in Kelso at age 82. Mrs. Crandall enjoyed race horses, gardening and salmon fishing. CRANDALL, Sidney William, age 3, of 1801 Donovan avenue, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, December 7, (1947). Sidney had resided in this community for the past year and one half, and leaves to survive, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D. Crandall, and one sister, Arlene Joyce, all at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Dotson, of Seattle, Mrs. Dorothy Crandall, of Seattle, and Mr. Alby R. Crandall, of Woodinville, Wash. CRANDELL, Doris, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, died July 28, 2004. She was born in Duluth, MN and was raised in Miami with her brother, Rick and a multitude of cousins. After high school she joined the civil service, serving in Panama and then in Japan in the WWII War-Crimes Trials as a court reporter. She settled in Washington state where she raised her family and worked and retired from the Edmonds School District's Administration Offices. She eventually moved to Birch Bay, where she fostered her love of the Bay and pursued her many interests, which included English mysteries, Crossword puzzles, making and flying kites, feeding her wild birds, watching sunsets and collecting Japanese Carp dishes. Doris is survived by sons Stephen Alaniz and Tim Alaniz and Karen Lamphere; daughter Sheilah and Gary Johnson and Lisa Alaniz Sherwood and Dave Sherwood; brother Rick and Bette Crandall (sic), of Florida; and grandchildren Eden Matlewski, Kelly Benvenuti, Dia McBride, Jenny Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Ryland Alaniz, Maija Alaniz, Devon Yesberger, Corinna Joyce, William Sherwood, Christopher Sherwood, and Jennifer Sherwood.

CRANDELL, Hazel Helen - A graveside service for Hazel Helen Crandell of Bellingham will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Enterprise Cemetery with the Rev. Leslie Ann Knight officiating. Mrs. Crandell died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, in Lynnwood. She was 86. She was born Dec. 17, 1910, to Frank and Helen Brown Griffith in Bellingham. Mrs. Crandell worked as head checker at Clark's Grocery Store for many years. She enjoyed family holiday gatherings, parties and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Errol, in 1980, three brothers and one sister. CRANDELL, Jacqueline Joan, age 59, of Edmonds, died Dec. 10, 1989. Survived by her beloved husband Perry E. Although a resident of the United States for most of her life, Jacquie never lost site of her Scottish & Canadian heritage. She was proud to be Canadian and maintained a strong identity with that country. Jacqueline was a gifted athlete. During her younger years she won many medals in Track & Field and was former holder of the British Columbia long jump record. She barely missed representing Canada at the 1952 Olympic Games. As a league bowler, Jacquie was a strong competitor with many honors & trophies to her credit. She enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing. During recent years, together with her husband, she participated in Bass Fishing tournaments. Jacquie was a member and former secretary of the Cascade Bass Masters. Above all she loved and devoted her life to her family. She was the strength & foundation on which there (sic) lives were built. CRANE, Dick, Capt., age 79, of 2522 N. Cedarwood, passed away in a local hospital Saturday evening, October 22,(1949) following a short illness. Capt. Crane had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 18 years and was a well known business man, he operated Capt. Dicks Furniture Store on State Street for a number of years. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Crane, of Tacoma; one son, Richard, of San Mateo, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Greve, of Atlantic City, Iowa; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Max and Earl, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Grace Burrows, of Paineville, Ohio; one cousin, Mrs. Roy Allen, of Rt. 1, Ferndale. CRANE, Esther Marie, age 56, of 1501 Austin Lane, passed away at home Sunday, Feb. 3, (1957). Mrs. Crane had lived in Skagit and Whatcom Counties her entire life, attended "the Firs," was a member of the St. Luke's Nurses' Association. CRANE, Floyd F., age 75, passed away at his residence, 1501 Austin Lane, Wed., Jan. 26, (1977). Born in Montana, member of the Carpenters Local 756. Survived by his wife Virginia; 1 step son, Robert Haan of Tacoma; 1 step daughter, Carol Ossewaarde of Bellingham; 1 sister, Flora Schanck of Red Lodge, Montana; 2 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held in Geneva Community Church, Monday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. Mr. Crane will lie in state at Veroske's Bellingham Chapel until 9:00 this evening and will be buried in the Lynden Cemetery Saturday morning.

CRANE, J. Vincent - The Rev. J. Vincent Crane, minister emeritus of the First Congregational Church of Bellingham, died at home Thursday (Nov. 25, 1982). He was 67. He retired in 1981 after 38 years as an ordained minister, the last 16 in Bellingham. He also served churches in Rock Springs, Wyo., Aberdeen, S. D., and Forest Grove, Ore. He was actively involved in youth work throughout his ministry, directing summer youth camps in all parts of the country. Evangelism was a special interest, too. He served on the Board of World Ministries, spent 1961 as one of two United Church of Christ representatives in Japan, and was frequently called upon by other churches to help conduct membership drives. When he retired, he was named minister emeritus of the First Congregational Church and a continuing scholarship in his name was established through the Board of World Ministries.
Born the son of a minister in Topeka, Kan., on April 30, 1915, he balked at following in his father's footsteps during the years in which he grew up. At first, he was going to be a garbage man - because they drove horses. He also considered coaching and music. While a senior at Washburn University, however, he decided to enroll at Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Newton, Mass., and find out for himself if he would be called to the ministry. An ardent sports fan, while attending seminary he developed a fondness for the Boston Red Sox baseball team and Boston Bruins hockey team that remained strong for the rest of his life. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Pacific University, which was across the street from the church he served in Forest Grove, Ore. A member of Kiwanis, he was lieutenant governor-elect of Kiwanis clubs in Oregon when he accepted the call to come to Bellingham. Survivors include his widow Esther Kaler Crane, whom he married in 1939; two sons, Bob Crane of Takoma Park, Md, and Kaler Crane of Bellingham; one daughter Marcia Johnson of Bothell; and three granddaughters. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church in Bellingham under the direction of the Jern LeVeck Chapel and Crematorium.

CRANE, Olive V. - Graveside services for a former Bellingham woman, Mrs. Olive V. Crane, 78, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery under direction of Moles Funeral Home. A resident here nearly all her life, she moved to Spokane 12 years ago. She died there Saturday (Jan. 10, 1964) and funeral services were conducted Tuesday. Surviving are two sons, William of Wenatchee and Lloyd of Spokane; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Voris of Seattle, and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

CRANE, Vernon Lee, age 54, of Sumas, passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 8, (1961). With the exception of 18 years, Mr. Crane had spent his entire life in Sumas. For 11 years he owned and operated the Coffee An Cafe till retiring two years ago. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude G.; one daughter, Mrs. Jim Bol, his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Crane; one grandson, all of Sumas. CRANE, Viola B., age 52, a former lifetime resident of Whatcom County, passed away at her home at Entiat, Wash., Thursday, Jan. 19, (1961) following and extended illness. Mrs. Crane was born at Nooksack and had made her home at Entiat for the past four months. CRANE, Virginia I. - A graveside service for Virginia I. Crane of Tacoma will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lynden Cemetery. Mrs. Crane died April 8, 1997, at Bellaire Nursing Home in Tacoma. She was 91. Born April 4, 1906, to Henry and Willamena Ponstein Ripperda in Lynden, she graduated from Lynden High School in 1924. She married Floyd Crane in 1959 in Bellingham. He died in 1977. Mrs. Crane worked as a caterer and was a member of Geneva Community Church. Survivors include son Robert Haan of Tacoma, daughter Carol Simonson of Santa Barbara, Calif., and two grandchildren. CRANER, Janet Ruth of 6975 Valley View Road, Ferndale, died Monday, March 8, 1993, at St. Joseph Hospital South Campus. She was 74. At her request, no services will be held. She was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Elgin, Ill., to Janet and Jack Spillard. During World War II, she worked in an aircraft factory in California. She married Clay Craner on June 24, 1950, in Boise, Idaho. A Whatcom County resident since 1967, Mrs. Craner was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 86 in Blaine. CRANFORD, Paul T., age 81 of Bellingham, WA, passed away Sept. 22, 1993 in Bellingham. He was born November 4, 1911 in Phoenix, AZ to Elisha Dow and Molinda C. Cranford. He moved to Bellingham in 1965 from Los Angeles. Mr. Cranford was a member of the Bellingham Senior Center and the Mt. Baker Rock and Gem Club and taught lapidary at the Bellingham Senior Center. CRAPE, Albert, 82, 2636 Nome St., died Thursday (Dec. 25, 1986) at a Bellingham hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1904, in Saskatchewan, but had lived in Whatcom County most of his life. He was a member of Triumph Lutheran Church in Ferndale, and the Ferndale Senior Center. Survivors include his wife, Aurora Crape, of the family home; and three nephews, Herbert Crape, Elmer Crape and Alfred Crape, all of Whatcom County. CRAPE, Alfred Carl, age 74, passed away March 10, 2007 at his residence in Bellingham. CRAPE, Aurora Needham, 87, of 1509 East Victor, died Feb. 10, 1992 in Bellingham. She was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County, graduate of Mt. Baker High School, and owner and operator of Peoples Trading Post on Mt. Baker Hwy from 1938 to 1961. She was a past member of Rome Grange and enjoyed traveling. CRAPE, Genevieve - A funeral service for Genevieve "Genny" Crape, 70, of 520 Mission Road will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden. The Rev. She moved to the area in 1937 and married Adam Crape in Lynden on Oct. 12, 1940. Mrs. Crape was a homemaker who also worked as a grocery checker at various stores in the Everson area. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden. Survivors include her husband, Adam Crape of the family home; sons Calvin Crape of Enumclaw, Arnold Crape of Fort Nelson, B. C., and Thomas Crape of Mount Vernon; a daughter Judy Gunderson of Fort Nelson; brothers Leroy Witman and Jack Witman, both of Everson, and Howard Witman, of Ferndale; sisters Gertrude Schaffer of Riverside, Calif., Helen Crape of Clatskanie, Ore., and Marge McMurray of Everson; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. CRAPE, Herbert E., age 74 of Bellingham, WA passed away May 28, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born February 2, 1928 in Bellingham, WA to Emil and Minnie (Elsner) Crape. Herbert was a graduate of Meridian High School. March 13, 1951 he married Shirley Fiedler in Bellingham, WA. Mr. Crape worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years before retiring. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Birchwood Garden Club, American Orchid Society and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Minnie Crape and brothers, Herman and Robert Crape. Survived by his wife, Shirley Crape of Bellingham; a daughter, Mary Ann and husband Ed Essig of Ferndale; a son, Daryl Crape and wife Lea of White House, TN; brothers, Alfred Crape and wife Marilyn and Elmer Crape and wife Doris both of Bellingham; three step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

CRAPE, Herman Adam, age 47 of 3585 Valley Hiway, Deming, passed away Wed., Nov. 3, (1976). A life time resident of this community, Mr. Crape was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Diaconate. He was a fire commissioner, chairman and fireman of Fire District No. 116, a Korean War veteran, member of Goshen Grange, past president of Acme PTA, member of the South Fork steering committee, a truck driver for the Whatcom County Grange Supply and a self employed dairyman. She married Stan Crapser on June 4, 1942 in Northwood, Iowa and moved to Whatcom County in 1948. She was a member of Orthopedic Guild in Skagit County, an active Republican, had candled eggs in the early to mid 1930's at the WA Co-op & was active in baseball & track in her early school years. CRATSENBERG, Holmes Q., age 60, of Ferndale, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, Aug. 29, (1955). Mr. Cratsenberg had been a resident of Ferndale his entire lifetime, he served in the United States Navy during World War I, and was a member of Kulshan Post No. 154 The American Legion. He is survived by his wife Vera; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Germain of Anaheim, Calif.; one son, Allen of Ferndale; four sisters, Mrs. Viva Oswalt of Bellingham, Mrs. Hilda Timmons and Mrs. Vera Morgenthaler of Anacortes, Mrs. Calla Slayton of Arlington; five brothers, Howard of Burlington, Zerel and Harold of Anacortes, Loyal of Tacoma, Harris of Seattle; four grandchildren; numerous other relatives. The remains rest at the Monroe Mortuary in Ferndale where services will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. George Baird officiating. Military honors will be given by the Kulshan Post of the American Legion at Enterprise Cemetery.

CRATSENBERG, Howard William, age 83, formerly of 523 Indiana St., Bellingham, WA died March 2, 1992 at a Bellingham Hospital. Howard was a service Rep. for Puget Power for 39 years, lived in the Burlington area for 47 years, and moved to Bellingham in 1983. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., Local #77, for 55 years. His family remembers him as a devoted husband and father who enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. Surviving Howard is his son Frank and wife Helen Crastenberg of Bellingham, grandchildren Vickie Cratsenberg, Nancy and husband Jon Edmonds, Brian and wife Marcia Cratsenberg, and great-grandchild, Lacey Cratsenberg. His wife Polly preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 1992 in the Jerns-Leveck Funeral Chapel, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leonard Ericksen officiating. CRATSENBERG, Vera V., 91, of 2474 Lummi View Drive, Bellingham, passed away in Blaine, WA on Sun., Oct. 7, (1990). She was born in Kearney, NE on April 5, 1899. Vera loved children and she and her late husband, Holmes, cared for many throughout the years. She and Holmes operated the Ferndale dairy until his death in 1955. She is survived by her daughter Shirley and husband Walter Germain and a son Allen Cratsenberg and wife Bonnie, all of Ferndale. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Juli Jefferson of Lummi, Jill Cratsenberg of Bellingham, Jeri Boal of Grants Pass, OR, Katy Baker of Silverdale, WA, Sally Lilly of Brooklyn, NY, Curtis Germain of Ferndale; 8 great grandchildren and other relatives. CRAVER, Timothy, 32, died at his home in Bellingham, WA on August 17, 2007. Tim was born on December 16, 1974 in Hartford, CT and spent his childhood in Londonderry, NY. Beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor and coach, Tim leaves behind his parents Peggy and Perry Craver, sister Karen Craver and Erik Paddleford, sister and brother-in-law Christina and Robert Szpila, nephews Ryan and Thomas, nieces Lucy and Grace, and special friend, Alexa Smith. Tim was an adventurer and a student of life. He was a lover of nature. Hiking, soccer and working with children were his passions. He cared deeply about the young people with whom he worked and played. Tim was a sensitive, compassionate, soft spoken, thoughtful individual with a great sense of humor. He loved and was loved well by family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 3 p.m. at Northwest Soccer Park on W. Smith Road.

CRAWFORD, Allen E., age 75 of 8539 Weidcamp Rd., Lynden passed away at his home Tues. February 16, (1982). Born in Mullen, Idaho, Mr. Crawford moved to the Lynden area in Oct., 1980 from Polson, Montana. A retired auto mechanic, Mr. Crawford was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson and also the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 86 and the Sons of Norway, also in Polson. He was married to his wife Helga in Polson on Nov. 27, 1934. He is survived by his wife Helga, a daughter, Mrs. Betty & husband Leo Metz of Lynden, 5 grandchildren; 5 sisters, Florence Doyle, Frances Hanmaker, Marjorie Hansen, Helen Olson & Elma DeMers all of Portland, Ore.; numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded by a son Glen in 1963. Funeral services will be conducted on Sat. Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. in the Mosley Funeral Chapel, Polson, Montana. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. CRAWFORD, Dennis Eugene, 21, of Sedro-Woolley, died Saturday, December 2, 1989, as the result of a boating accident off the coast of Newport, Oregon. He was born October 14, 1968, in Mount Vernon, a son of Sally and Roger Crawford. He had made his home in Sedro-Woolley where he was a 1987 graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School and represented his school in the Plymouth Trouble Shooting Competition for second place in state. He was a member of the varsity basketball team in high school and following graduation he continued to play in a church league. His hobbies included hunting and competitive pistol shooting where he shot at the state, national, and international level. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Teamster's Local No. 788, Mount Vernon. Dennis was a commercial fisherman and had fished in Alaska and most recently was crabbing off the Coast of Oregon. Surviving are his parents, Sally and Roger Crawford, Sedro Woolley; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Jahnke, Sedro-Woolley, and James Crawford, Sedro-Woolley; one nephew Sean Jahnke, Sedro-Woolley; his paternal great grandmother, Rose Elliott, Mount Vernon; his maternal grandmother, Edith Esary, Mount Vernon; his paternal grandparents, John and Rosalie Crawford, Mount Vernon, and aunts and uncles Tom and PeeWee McGehee, Bow, Ralph and Priscilla Esary, Bow, Davide and Nancy Esary, Burlington, Pat and Nancy Rimmer, Burlington, Pam Johnson, Mount Vernon, and Marvin and Judy Hall, Mount Vernon; numerous cousins. CRAWFORD, Helga Christina – A service for Helga Christina Crawford of Whatcom County will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson, Mont. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. Mrs. Crawford died Saturday Jan 22, 2000 at Touch of Country Adult Care Home. She was 88. She was born Oct. 20, 1911 to Anna and Ole Karlsgodt in Kenilworth, Mont., and the family moved to Polson in 1926. After graduating from Polson High School in 1931, she went to work in her father's grocery business. On Nov 27, 1934, she married Allen E. Crawford in Polson. Mrs. Crawford moved to Whatcom County in 1980. She enjoyed hand sewing, playing pinochle and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband and son Glen Crawford. Survivors include daughter Betty Metz of Lynden, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives. Local arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

CRAWFORD, Kenneth L. - A memorial service for Kenneth L. Crawford of Bellingham will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenacres Funeral Home chapel. Mr. Crawford died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. He was 73. Born Aug. 16, 1923, to Virgil and Margaret Shippen Crawford in Danville, Kan., he lived in Bellingham since 1942. A 1942 graduate of Wenatchee High School, he was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married Bernice Alvis in 1942 in Wenatchee. Mr. Crawford owned and operated Crawford's Auto Upholstery and Marina for 35 years. He was a life member of Eagle Aerie No. 31, William Matthews Post No. 1585 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion and B.P.O.E. No. 194. He was preceded in death by son Glenn Crawford in 1969 and granddaughter Deanna Crawford in 1984. Survivors include his wife of Bellingham, sons Kenneth D. Crawford of Ferndale and Charles Crawford of Bellingham, daughter Stephanie Thomas of Bellingham, brothers Gene Crawford of Custer and Marvin Crawford of Wenatchee, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

CRAWFORD, Louise May, age 72, of 2801 1/2 Donovan St., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, April 21, (1960). Mrs. Crawford had resided in Bellingham for the past 40 years; was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are two daughter, Mrs. Ruby Sand of Bellingham, and Mrs. Elizabeth McInnes, of Glendale, Calif.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Donna Lou Binchus, Robert Harper and Warren Hoveland, all of Bellingham and Gary Crawford, in California; three great grandchildren, one brother, Adler Marsaw, of Seattle; five sisters, Mrs. Lillian Drum and Mrs. Julia Van House, both of Seattle, Mrs. Eva Taylor, Mrs. Georgia Bell and Mrs. Pearl Bettas, all of Kirkland. The remains will lie in state at the Jones Funeral Home until Friday evening at 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Green Funeral Home in Kirkland, Monday, April 25, at 1 p.m. Final resting place acacia Memorial Park, Seattle.

CRAWFORD, Mertie V., age 85 of 2906 Coolidge Drive, passed away June 25, (1975). A Bellingham and Alger resident for more than 50 years. Mrs. Crawford was a retired cook for WWSC and a member of Advent Christian Church. Surviving husband, Virgil; 1 son, Robery Wyman of Bellingham; 2 daughters, Mrs. Iva Holm and Mrs. Beatrice Caron both of Sedro Woolley; 6 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Ona Cook of Big Rapids, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews including Bill Maynard of Burlington. Funeral services Monday, June 30 at 1 p.m. Jones Funeral Home. Interment Greenacres.

CRAWFORD, Michael S., age 22, of 29812 1st Ave. South, Federal Way, had been missing since Sun., May 19, 1985. He was a student at Western Washington University. He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Crawford of Federal Way; 1 brother, Patrick Crawford of Federal Way; 2 sisters, Kathleen Duarte of Kent, Wa., Linda Hart of Federal Way; a grandmother, Mary Crawford of Tacoma. CRAWFORD, Robert Russell "Bud", age 51, of Mercer Island, Wa., passed away Mon., Sept. 25, 1978. He was a former member of the B'ham Yacht Club, Rotary, St. Luke's Hospital Board, B'ham School Board, he was also active in Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was the manager of the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. from years 1960-1969. Also active in many community affairs. Survivors, wife, Margery; daughter, Kathryn (Kathy); son, Robert; mother, Hazel Crawford of Seattle; brother, Cliston Crawford of Seattle; sister Jacque Lee Carson of B'ham. Memorial service Thurs., Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.

CRAWFORD, Ray Allen, 61, of Bonney Lake died on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992. Ray was born in Langdon, N. D. on March 18, 1931. He came to Bellingham in 1941. He attended Whatcom Junior High, Ferndale High School for one year and Nooksack Valley High School for three years, graduating in 1950. He worked in the Lynden area for a short time following graduation from high school, then he joined the Navy. He moved to Bonney Lake in 1964 from Auburn. Ray was a construction supervisor. He enjoyed golf and archery as a hobby. He also enjoyed building and carpentry as a hobby. He was on the Lake Jane Board of Directors in Bonney Lake and active in Bonney Lake Community affairs. Survivors are his wife Geri of the home; a son, Mark Crawford of Bonney Lake; two daughters, Teri Hall of Vancouver, Wash. and Kyra O'Keefe of Sumner; two brothers, Walter of Auburn and Earl of Puyallup; a sister, Ruth Murfin of Park Rapids, Minn.; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hill Funeral Home in Puyallup. Burial will be in Sumner Cemetery.

CRAWFORD, Ray L., age 60 of 3237 Pinewood Ave., passed away Thurs., March 22, (1979). A Bellingham resident for the past 36 years, he was a WWII U. S. Coast Guard veteran and is survived by his wife, Dorothea, 2 sons, Neil Crawford, City and Steve Crawford of Mt. Vernon, 3 brothers, Chester Crawford of Alma, Arkansas, Bob Crawford, and James Crawford both of Fort Smith, Arkansas, 2 sisters, Mrs. B. N. CRAWFORD, Roy R., age 61 of 2915 Cottonwood, passed away Sunday, January 6. (1966). A resident of Bellingham for 19 years, he was an accountant in Whatcom County Engineers office. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 194 and the Bellingham Country Club. Survived by his wife, Ruth, 1 brother, Grant Crawford of Arcadia, Calif., several nieces and nephews. CRAWFORD, William Monroe, age 78, of 1015 Indian Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, April 22, (1952). Mr. Crawford had resided in the Ferndale and Everson districts since 1883, and in Bellingham for the past six years. He had owned and operated shingle mills before his retirement. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving relatives include one sister, Mrs. Irene McCormick, of Bellingham, and several nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. David S. Land, Saturday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Enterprise Cemetery.

CRAWLEY, William, age 77, of 1620 Fairhaven Street, passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, May 2, (1950). Mr. Crawley had resided in this community for the past 40 years and was a retired street car conductor. He is survived by one niece, Mrs. Frances Vander Yacht of Ferndale. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun, Saturday, May 6, at 3 p.m. Cremation.

CRAWSHAW, Lulu - Funeral services were held Saturday in Seattle for Lula Crawshaw, 72, (d. 3 Apr 1957), a former teacher here and a graduate of Western Washington College. Miss Crawshaw also taught school in Blanchard and was the fifth grade teacher of Edward R. Murrow and his brother, Col. Lacey Murrow. She was a violinist and was a member of both the Bellingham Symphony and Seattle Civic orchestras.

CRAYTON, Dylan Thomas, age 15, of Ferndale, died Sat., Jan. 11, 1997, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. A freshman at Ferndale High School, Dylan was actively involved in the Natural Helper Program; enjoyed sports, playing football and basketball at Ferndale High School, and at the Boys' and Girls' Club and was a member of Ferndale Alliance Church. Preceded in death by his father, Junichi S. Crayton in 1989, he is survived by his mother, Bridget Crayton, of Ferndale; sisters, Angela, Leila and Erin, all of the family home; maternal grandparents, Angell and Miriam Bunes of Seattle; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Yukiko Crayton of Columbus, OH; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Thurs., Jan. 16, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held, Sat., Jan. 18, 1:00 p.m. at Ferndale High School Auditorium with Pastors Jonathan Mutchler and Shawn Van De Mark officiating. Greenacres Funeral Home & Crematorium.
