ELBRECHT, Thomas Edward - A funeral for Thomas "Ace" Edward Elbrecht of Lynden will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Life Fellowship Church with the Rev. Ronald Slater officiating. Mr. Elbrecht's ashes will be placed in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Elbrecht died at home Sunday, June 1, 1997. He was 74. Born Feb. 19, 1923, to Edward and Mary Huggins Elbrecht in St. Louis, Mo., he was raised in Ohio and Florida. He married Beth Olin on Aug. 11, 1944, in Lynden. He served in the Navy from 1941 to 1964. After his retirement, Mr. Elbrecht returned to Lynden and worked as a furnace repairman for Price Brothers from 1980 to 1986. He attended Lynden United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include his wife of the family home; sons James "Tom" Elbrecht of Lynden and Scott Elbrecht of Seattle, daughter Janet Brucker of Parkland; brother John Elbrecht of Elizabeth, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

ELDER, George Ogilvie, age 64 years, a resident of Everson, passed away Tuesday, May 28, (1946). Mr. Elder had lived his entire lifetime in the Everson district and was serving his last year of a fourth term as county commissioner. He was a member of Lynden Lodge No. 56, F. and A.M., Lynden Chapter No. 12, O.E.S., of Bellingham, Whatcom County Dairymen's Association and the Washington Co-operative Farmer's Association. Survivors include his wife, Mae C.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Kale, Mrs. Margaret Bartelds; three sons, George Jr., James and William; ten grandchildren; one cousin, David Bisset, all of the Everson district. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 31, at 2 p.m. from the Everson Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Martyn Wilson, of Bellingham, officiating. Interment in the Nooksack Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

ELDER, Howard, 1255 Lincoln Street, age 72, passed away Friday, July 1, (1966). A sixty-year resident of this city, Mr. Elder was a retired shingle weaver. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Jennie Girod, city, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. John C. Radmore, Tuesday, July 5, at 3:00 p.m. at Enterprise Cemetery under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

ELDER, James R., age 49, of 261 Aaron Place, Lynden, passed away at his residence Tues. June 11, (1991). He had been a resident of Lynden for the past 17 years and was a partner with McCord & Elder Accounting firm. He leaves to survive his wife, Cheryl Elder; 1 son, Nathan Elder; 1 daughter, Stefanie Elder, all of Lynden; his mother, Amy Elder of California; 1 brother, Joseph Davis of Oak Harbor; 1 sister, Evelyn Howard of California. Family services were held at Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel. [b. Sept. 12, 1941]

ELDER, James S., 70, of California, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1992, at home. Mr. Elder was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Bellingham to George and Mae Elder of Everson. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Elder, of California; four daughters; one son; two step-sons; brother George Elder of Stanwood; sisters Margaret Bartelds and Dorothy Kale, both of Everson; and several grandchildren. Burial will be in California.

ELDER, Jessie Osier, age 82, of 935 E. Grover St., Lynden, passed away Tuesday morning Dec. 10, (1958) in a Lynden rest home following a brief illness. Mrs. Elder had resided in Lynden since 1905. She was a member of Lynden Chapter 12, O.E.S., a past matron and life member. Survivors include a son, Walter of Nooksack; two daughters, Mrs. Jake Brink of Idaho and Mrs. William C. Noteboom of Lynden; two brothers, Fred Osier of Iowa and Robert Osier of Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Alice Massey also of Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in the Gillies Funeral Home, Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carl E. Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynden Cemetery.

ELDER, Joan B., age 77, of Bellingham passed away in Bellingham June 2, (1988). She was born in Bradish, Neb., January 10, 1911 and had been a resident of this area for 28 yrs. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She leaves to survive 3 daughters, Norma Hill of Bellingham, Barbara Stirling (Roger) & Therese Collings, both of Chicago; 3 brothers Alton, Mons, & Olas Aase; 2 sisters Marie & Tillie; & 7 grandchildren. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 1988 at Trinity Lutheran Church followed by entombment at Greenacres Cemetery. Under the direction of Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

ELDER, Joseph S., age 88 years, of Route 3, Ferndale, passed away at a Bellingham Hospital Wednesday, October 15th, (1952). He had been a resident of the county since 1884. For the last 12 years he had made his home with his nephew, John Nevins, of Ferndale. Mr. Elder is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Private services were held Sat., Oct. 18, at the Monroe Funeral chapel of Ferndale. Interment, Lakeview Cemetery.

ELDER, June Pauline, 67, of 1982 Yew Street Road, died Wednesday, April 1, 1992, in a Bellevue care center. She was born January 25, 1925, in Assinaboia, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Rudyard and Annie Lowes. She attended school in Saskatchewan. She married Cliff Elder on April 11, 1944, in Canada. He survives her at the family home. Mrs. Elder was a resident of Whatcom County for 30 years. Expressing her love of children and nature, the couple built "Once Upon A Fairyland," a miniature world for all to enjoy, which they operated from 1968 to 1975. Other survivors include her daughter Jacqueline Jaggers of Renton; her brother Jim and sisters Mona, Isabel and Dorothy; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on April 25 at the family home. Arrangements were by Green's Funeral Home in Bellevue.

ELDER, Mae C., age 68 years, of Everson, Rt. 1, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, October 10, (1951) following a short illness. She had been a resident of that district for the past 60 years and is survived by three sons, George O., of Arlington, and James and Billy, both of Everson; two daughters, Mrs. Elvin Kale and Mrs. Neil Barteld, both of Everson; two brothers, Will S. Shumway, of Omak, and Ray C. Shumway, Lynden, Rt. 2; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Blythe and Mrs. Minnie J. Thomas, both of Bellingham; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Private services will be conducted Saturday, October 13, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with the Rev. J. M. Wilson officiating. Interment, Nooksack Cemetery.

ELDER, Marion Clifton, age 58 years, of 1255 Lincoln Street, passed away at a local hospital Friday, August 6, (1944). Mr. Elder was a farmer and had resided in this county the past forty-two years. Deceased was a Methodist, and leaves the following survivors: two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Girod, Bellingham, and Mrs. V. May Targor, Everett; one brother, Howard Elder, and a half-brother, Edward Elder, Victoria, B.C.; two nieces and three nephews. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. James M. Wilson, Monday, August 7, at 3:00 p.m. Final resting place, Enterprise Cemetery.

ELDER, Mark, 69, died Friday (May 16, 1986) at his home in Birch Bay. Mr. Elder was a retired building contractor and a member of the Anglican Church. Survivors include his wife and four children. Funeral service arrangements are being handled by Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

ELDER, Walter F. - Services for retired woodworker Walter F. Elder, 82, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gillies Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Grafwallner officiating. Burial will follow in Lynden Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Elder, 700 32nd St., died Monday in Sehome Park Care Center in Bellingham of natural causes. He was born April 20, 1907, in Clarion, Iowa. His parents moved to the Lynden area in 1910. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1925. He married the former Gertrude Bartelds on May 9, 1930. During World War II, he worked at The Boeing Co. in Seattle. For 17 years, he worked at Darigold in Lynden. Prior to his retirement, he worked for eight years as a woodworker at Uniflite. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas and Robert, both of Bellingham; three daughters, Shirley Rapoza and Donna Johnson, both of Bellingham, and Sandra Knudsen of Acme; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Noteboom of Lynden and Ruth Brink of Jerome, Idaho; and numerous other relatives. ELDER, Walter Harry, age 77 years, of Lynden, passed away at a local hospital, Saturday, Oct. 10, (1953) following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past 48 years and was a member of the Lynden Masonic Lodge and the Lynden Chapter of the O.E.S. He is survived by his wife, Jessie; two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Noteboom, of Lynden Rt. 2, Mrs. Ruth Brink, of Jerome, Idaho; one son, Walter, of Everson; one brother, Verner, in Portland; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Overbaugh, at Penwick, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral services Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, followed by the Masonic Ritualistic services at the graveside. Interment, Lynden Cemetery.

ELDER, William, 64, of 3121 Squalicum Parkway died Friday (March 12, 1991) at his residence. Private family graveside services will be conducted Monday at Nooksack Cemetery with the Rev. Sharon Hare officiating. A life-long resident of Whatcom County, Mr. Elder was born in Bellingham July 3, 1926, to George and Mae Elder. He is survived by two brothers, George Elder of Stanwood and James Elder of Turlock, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Kale and Margaret Bertelds, both of Everson; and numerous nieces and nephews. ELDER, William John, age 70, of 1714 22nd St., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, January 9, (1954) following a lingering illness. Resided in Bellingham for the past 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; eight children: William P. Kales of Allenby, B.C., Dan A. Kales, Leonard G. Kales, Stanley M. Kales, all of this city, Arthur Kales of Concrete, Clarence G. Kales of Seattle; Mrs. Esther Zenze of Seattle; Mrs. Anonia Quillen of Bellingham; 1_ grandchildren. ELDRED, Anna O. - A graveside service for Anna O. Dunlap Eldred of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Eldred died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in Seattle. She was 93. Born May 21, 1903, she married Merrill Eldred on Nov. 1, 1930. They moved to Bellingham in 1935 and founded and operated Eldred Fuel Co. from 1936 to 1963. Mrs. Eldred was active in the Church of Christ. She moved to Seattle in 1993. Survivors include children Clio Eldred and Vondalae Pottle, sister Velma White, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

ELDRED, Berton E., age 68, a resident of Forks since 1952, died at the United General Hospital in Sedro Woolley on Thurs., April 26, 1979. He was born at Bow, Wa. Jan. 8, 1911. He was a former Whatcom County resident and a retired logging truck driver. He is survived by his wife Evelyn; a son, Ron L. Eldred, Everson; a daughter, Carol L. Sanford, Port Angeles; a stepson, Loren G. Young, Kent; a stepdaughter, Irene Lonborge, Elma, Wa.; a sister, Violet Dynes, White Rock, B.C.; a brother, Harold Eldred,Lummi Island; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. ELDRED, Ethel, age 74, of 2232 North Nugent Road, Lummi Island, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 1992 in Providence Hospital, Seattle. Born May 2, 1918 in Everett, WA to U.S. (Cap) and Mary Elizabeth Briscoe, she had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom County; was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing. She married Harold E. Eldred March 8, 1936 and is survived by her husband; son Si and wife Judy Eldred of Laurel; daughter, Mary and husband Jim Nace of North Bellingham, WA; 2 granddaughters, Suzi Barr of Port Angeles, WA and Toni Dean of Perris, CA; 2 grandsons, Wesley and Weylin Eldred of Laurel; 2 great-granddaughters, Tara and Jet; brother U.S. "Bud" Briscoe; nieces & nephews. ELDRED, Evelyn M. - Former Whatcom County resident Evelyn M. Eldred, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 19, (1987) at her home in Des Moines. She lived in Van Zandt and Sumas before moving to Forks in 1952, where she worked as a bookkeeper. She returned to Whatcom County and lived in Bellingham before moving to Des Moines five years ago. Mrs. Eldred is survived by a daughter, Irene Lonberg of Elma; a son, Loren Young Sr. of Des Moines; a stepson, Ron Eldred of Everson; a stepdaughter, Carol Sanford of Port Angeles; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence Silves and Jordan Silves of Everson, Albert Silves of Van Zandt, Jack Silves of Bellingham and Walt Silves of Humptulips. Services were Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Greenacres Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Grant of Immanuel Bible Church officiating. Burial was in Greenacres Memorial Park.

ELDRED, Harold Edgar - Lummi Island resident Harold Edgar Eldred died Monday, Nov. 30, 1992, in Bellingham. He was 80. At his request, no services will be held. Mr. Eldred was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Clearlake, Wash., to Frank and Gertrude Burrwell Eldred. His family moved to Whatcom County when he was 12. He married Julia Ethel Briscoe on March 8, 1937, in Everett. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1992. Mr. Eldred was a member of Laborers Union Local No. 276, Lummi Island Fire Department, and Washington Reefnet Owners Association. He enjoyed trout fishing and hunting. Survivors include son Si Eldred of Laurel; daughter Mary Nace of Bellingham; sister Violet Dynes of White Rock, B.C.; brother Jerry Eldred of Everson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ELDRED, Leona Silves, age 54 of Port Angeles passed away Sat., Jan. 5, (1980). She was born June 10, 1925, Sumas area. She attended Fair View Bible Church, Port Angeles. She is survived by husband Gerald Eldred, one son, Gerald, two daughters, Donna Bennum and Shirley Chaney, 1 grandson, Eric Chaney, all of Port Angeles. One sister, Evelyn Eldred of Bellingham, 5 brothers, Walt of Humptulips, Wash., Jack, Albert, Clarence and Jorden Silves of Whatcom County. Also several nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by brother Lawrence Silves, Dec. 23, 1979. Services will be conducted Jan. 9, Wed., at 11 o'clock a.m. at Fair View Bible Church, Port Angeles, Wash. ELDRED, Leonard Orville, age 45, Rt. No. 2, Everson, passed away Wednesday, May 26th, (1965) due to a logging accident. Mr. Eldred was a lifetime resident of this community. He is survived by his widow, Muriel, at home; two sons, Leonard J., at home; Richard of Mt. Vernon, two daughters, Ruth Ann and Rachel, both at home; mother, Mrs. Gertrude Eldred of Sedro Woolley; four brother, Harold, Lummi Island; Sherman, San Diego, Calif.; Bert, Forks; Gerald, Sequim, Wn.; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Dynes, Williams Lake, B.C.; Mrs. Florence Marsh, Sedro Woolley; and nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted Tuesday, June 1 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.

ELDRED, Luella, age 83 years, 1406 Broadway, passed away at a local hospital, Saturday, February 15, (1947) after a lingering illness. Mrs. Eldred had been a resident of Bellingham for the past ten years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Mrs. Hattie Wyatt, Halfway, Ore.; two sons, Merrill H. Eldred, Bellingham, and Eber F. Eldred, New Plymouth, Ida.; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Brown, Pomona, Calif., and one brother, Mr. Thomas Moon, Redmonds, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Eldred will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, Monday, February 17, at 1 p.m., with Evangelist J. C. Bunn, officiating. Interment in Woodlawn cemetery.

ELDRED, Merrill Harvey - Memorial service for Merrill Harvey Eldred, age 90, of 341 Telegraph Rd., Bellingham, will be Sunday Feb. 12, 5 p.m., Church of Christ, Bellingham, with G. K. Self, officiating. Graveside services were Tues. Feb. 7 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Eldred passed away Sat. Feb. 4, 1989. Born Nov. 19, 1898 in Oklahoma, he was a U.S. Navy WWI veteran; married Anna O. Dunlap in Nooksack, Nov. 1, 1930, moving to Idaho and returning to Bellingham in 1935; he and his wife founded & operated Eldred Fuel Co. in 1936, which is still in operation today. Mr. Eldred was a charter member & Elder of Church of Christ, Bellingham and is survived by his wife, Anna O.; son, Clio B. Eldred, both of Bellingham; daughter, Vondelae Hall of Portland, OR; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins including first cousin Stella Pietila of Portland, OR.

ELDRED, Philip R., age 66 of Villa Care, 1200 Birchwood Avenue, Bellingham, died Sun., Oct. 12, 1980. He had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1972 and retired from Burlington Northern Railroad. He is survived by his sons Philip J. of Ferndale; Michael C. of Wisconsin; Chris M. of Newell, Iowa; John D. of St. Paul; his daughters, Margaret Alderson of Bellingham; Mary Fischer of Bay Port, Minnesota; Kate Eldred of Woods Hole, Mass.; & Coleen A. ELDRIDGE, Carrie A. - Graveside services for Bellingham homemaker Carrie A. Eldridge, 80, of 1308 Birchwood Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Eldridge was born March 13, 1907, in Norman, Okla. She had lived in Bellingham for 13 years. Survivors include a son, George, of Bellingham; a daughter, Frances Blankenship, of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. Her husband, David, died earlier. Arrangements are with Westford Funeral Home.

ELDRIDGE, David D., age 86, of 4498 Hannegan Rd., passed away Sun. Sept. 24, 1978. Mr. Eldridge had resided in Whatcom Co. the past 3 years, was a Veteran of WWI & a retired heavy duty maintenance man. He leaves to survive his wife, Carrie A. ELDRIDGE, Kenneth A., age 66, of 228 Cherry St., Blaine, passed away in a local hospital Wed., Sept. 20, 1978. A resident of Blaine for the past 22 years, he served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII & was a retired U.S. Customs Inspector. Surviving are his wife, Verna Mae at home; 2 daughters, Sandra Kuttel of Blaine and Linda Eldridge of B'ham; 2 brothers, Merrill of Seattle and Oliver in Calif.; 3 sisters, Victoria Kingsley in Michigan, Mabel Becker of Seattle & Aline Odlin of Maryland; 1 grandson, Ryan Kuttel of Blaine; numerous nieces & nephews. Memorial services will be held in Veroske McKinney Funeral Home, Sat., Sept. 23 at 12 noon with the Rev. Donald Walter officiating. Cremation.

ELDRIDGE, LaVerne E., age 86, of 2100 Electric, passed away May 18, (1989) in a Seattle hospital. She moved to Bellingham about 6 years ago from Spokane; was a former teacher in Seattle & Bellingham; member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Alvina McCush Guild. She leaves to survive her husband Wesley Eldridge; 2 sister, Bessie M. Snider of Bellingham & Edith Trunkey of Bellingham. Private family services will be held at a later date under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home.

ELDRIDGE, Wesley R., age 86, of 2100 Electric, passed away Tues. June 20, (1989). Mr. Eldridge had resided in Bellingham for the past 6 years. Preceded in death by his wife LaVerne in May, 1989. He was (the) retired owner of a frozen food packing company in Snohomish; Veteran of WWII; graduated from the University of Washington in 1926 and was State Representative of the 32nd District from 1947 to 1951. His father owned the Eldridge Buick Agency in Seattle where he was also employed at one time. Survived by a brother, Eugene of Seattle; 2 sisters-in-law, Bessie Snyder & Edith Trunkey both of City, and 2 nephews in Spokane. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Westford Funeral Home. (b. ELENBAAS, Albert James, born in Lynden on Jan. 18, 1918, passed away after a brief illness in San Ramon, California on Sunday, May 25, (1980). He served overseas, U.S. Army Air Force, during World War II and was employed by M.B. Associates, Research and Development at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Alicia, of San Ramon; a daughter, Lynnda Kell, San Ramon; two sons: Fred Elenbaas, Fremont, CA and Steve Elenbaas, U.S. Navy; his mother, Jennie Elenbaas, Lynden; two sisters: Ann Harris, Jamestown, CA and Bernice Vossbeck, Lynden; One brother, Eugene Elenbaas, Sacramento, CA. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 31, at the Hayward Christian Reformed Church.

ELENBAAS, Eugene I. - Funeral services for former Lynden resident Eugene I. Elenbaas, 62, were held Aug. 14 at the Chapel of the Valley in Sacramento, Calif. Elenbaas, of Sacramento, died Aug. 11, 1991 at Veterans Hospital in Martinez, Calif. He was born in Lynden on April 10, 1929, son of the late Isaac and Jennie Elenbaas of Lynden. He is survived by two sisters, Bernice Vossbeck of Lynden and Ann Harris of Jamestown, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Freddie Lee, and his friend, Carolyn Hopkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, A. James Elenbaas. Private interment took place in the Riverside National Cemetery at Riverside, Calif.

ELENBAAS, Gertrude, age 77 of 915 E. Front St., Lynden, passed away Tuesday, March 18, (1975) in a local hospital. A resident of Whatcom County for the past 60 years and a member of Faith Reformed Church. She is survived by her husband, Peter J.; a son, Jay of Sumas and a sister, Mrs. Clarence VanderGriend of Lynden; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Services Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m. in the Faith Reformed Church with the Rev. Julius Brandt officiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

ELENBAAS, Herman, age 90, formerly of 114 10th St., Lynden passed away Friday, April 2, (1976). Born in Holland, Mr. Elenbaas moved to Michigan and then in 1900 moved to Lynden. For many years Mr. Elenbaas operated Lynden Dairy Products with his brother, Pete, before starting the Elenbaas Dairy Supply in 1958. He had been active as a board member of Lynden Christian Schools, the Board of Governors for Calvin College, was a original board member of the Lynden Christian Rest Home, had served on the Lynden City Council and the Church Council of the Second Christian Reformed Church. He was married to Ruby Hanover on May 11, 1915 in Lynden. Mrs. Elenbaas passed away in 1974. He was also preceded in death by a son, John James Elenbaas. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Peter (Winifred) Bulthuis of Lynden and Mrs. Bill (Marian) Scholten in Hemet, Calif.; 1 son, Rev. John Elenbaas in Wellesburg, Iowa; 2 brothers, Pete and Joe Elenbaas of Lynden; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Ronald Slater officiating. Interment will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery. ELENBAAS, Isaac, age 73, of Lynden, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, (1958) in Jamestown, Calif. Born in The Netherlands, he came to the Lynden district in 1901. Survived by his widow, Jennie; two sons, Albert James of Hayward, Calif., Eugene I. in the U.S. Navy; two daughters, Mrs. Ann Marie Harris, Jamestown, Calif., Mrs. Bernice Vossbeck of Lynden; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Heutink of Lynden; four brothers, Martin, Joe, Herman and Peter, all of Lynden. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. from the Second Reformed Church in Lynden with Rev. Enno Haan officiating. Interment, Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

ELENBAAS, Jay - Visitation for Mr. Jay Elenbaas, long time Sumas resident, will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 27, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, with family available to greet friends between 2 and 4 p.m. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, in Monumenta Cemetery followed by funeral Services at 3:00 p.m. in the Sumas Christian Reformed Church with Rev. William Vandenbos officiating. Mr. Elenbaas died at the Christian Health Care Center on Sunday, Feb. 24, (2002). He was 82. Born in Lynden on September 18, 1919, Jay was the son of Peter and Gertrude (Oldenmeyer) Elenbaas. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1937 and then Bellingham Business College in 1939. He first went to work for Union Oil Distributor Evyen & Young in Lynden before becoming owner of the Elenbaas Company in Sumas for forty-five years. He was married to Anne Dyksterhuis in Lynden on March 14, 1944. Jay was a member and former Elder of the Sumas Christian Reformed Church and was a former City Councilman and Mayor of Sumas. He was also the former Superintendent of the Mission Sunday School in British Columbia. Besides his parents, he was preceded by a granddaughter Kimberly Elenbaas. Mr. Elenbaas is survived by his wife Anne of the family home in Lynden; sons Dennis and wife Darlene and Richard and wife Melissa of Lynden and Glen and wife Harlene of Lynden; daughter Eileen DeYoung and husband Arlen of Lynden, thirteen grand and three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Lynden.

ELENBAAS, Jennie, age 95, of 700 Judson St., Lynden, passed away in Bellingham on Wed., April 29, (1987). She was born in Beaver Dam, Michigan on Feb. 27, 1892. As a young child she moved to the Lynden area with her parents, Albert & Anna Haveman. She was a charter member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Lynden & on Jan. 2, 1914, married to her husband Isaac in Lynden. Mr. Elenbaas died in 1958. For many years she had been employed as a seamstress for the Lynden Department Store, was a former 4-H Club leader & was also active in many other church & community organizations. She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Bernice Vossbeck of Lynden & Mrs. Ann Marie & husband Vince Harris of Jamestown, CA; a son, Eugene Elenbaas & wife Freddie Lee, Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Fred Elenbaas, Lynda & Peter Kell, Steve & Judi Elenbaas & Paul & Sharon Harris, all of California, Mary Ann & Baird Alderson of Mt. ELENBAAS, Joe - Funeral services for Mr. Joe Elenbaas, age 93, formerly of 1062 Van Dyk Road, Lynden, were conducted on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the former Lynden Assembly of God Church with Rev. Cornelius Rientjes officiating; Mr. Dan Gering also participated. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Elenbaas, who died in Lynden on Thursday, April 26, (1984) was born in the Netherlands on February 7, 1891 and moved to Lynden from Michigan in 1900. A retired farmer, he was a member of the former Lynden Assembly of God Church where he had served on the board and as treasurer for many years. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Mt. Baker Post of the American Legion in Lynden. He was married to Stella Burns in Lynden on May 3, 1920; Mrs. Elenbaas died in 1965. He is survived by a son, Renier and wife Ruth of Lynden; a daughter, Mrs. Serena and husband Robert Haugen of Lynden; nine grand- and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Thom, Mrs. Jennie Elenbaas and Mrs. Allie Elenbaas, all of Lynden; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

ELENBAAS, Ken J., age 28, of 6198 Siper Rd., Everson, passed away suddenly Monday, May 23, (1977). A life time resident of Whatcom Co., he graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1967. He was employed by the Mt. Baker Silo Co. and was a member of Trout Unlimited. ELENBAAS, Marie, age 69, of 9628 Swartwood Rd., Sumas, passed away Thurs., Dec. 25, 1986, in B'ham. She was born Amsterdam, Holland, June 11, 1917. She was a resident of Sumas for 44 years. She immigrated from Amsterdam at the age of 8 to Vancouver, B.C. She was a member of Sumas Christian Reformed Church where she was very active in the Dorcas Society & the Coffee Break program. ELENBAAS, Martin, age 83, of South Judson Street, Lynden, passed away Monday, Dec. 26th (1966) in a Lynden rest home following an extended illness. ELENBAAS, Peter J., age 87, formerly of 915 E. Front St., Lynden, passed away in a Lynden nursing home on Mon. March 1, 1982. Born in Zeeland, Michigan, Mr. Elenbaas had been a Lynden resident since 1898. A member of the Faith Reformed Church in Lynden, Mr. Elenbaas had operated the Elenbaas Company in Sumas & Everson from 1941 until his retirement in 1970. A former member of the Lynden School Board, Mr. Elenbaas was also a member of the Gideon's Bible Society and the American Legion Mt. Baker Post No. 121 in Lynden and during WWI served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by a son Jay and his wife Ann of Sumas; 4 grandchildren, Dennis Elenbaas of Nooksack, Richard Elenbaas and Mrs. Eileen (Arlen) DeYoung both of Lynden; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews; a brother Joe Elenbaas of Lynden. ELENBAAS, Ruby - Funeral services for Ruby Elenbaas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Ronald Slater at the Second Christian Reformed Church under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home. Mrs. Elenbaas, 82, Lynden, died Sunday (April 28, 1974) in a local rest home. She was the first principal of Lynden Christian School and a member of the Second Reformed Christian Church. She is survived by her widower, Herman; a son, Rev. John Elenbaas of Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. William Scholten in California and Mrs. Pete Bulthuis of Lynden; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. ELENBAAS, Ruth Gertrude - A funeral service for Ruth Gertrude Elenbaas of Lynden was held at Word of Life Church on Monday, June 25, at 1 p.m. with pastor Don Ross and Rev. Bruce Hemple officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mrs. Elenbaas passed away at her home late Thursday night, June 21, 1990, at the age of 67. She was born in Zion, Ill., of Oct. 25, 1922, a daughter of Lloyd and Perle (Schroeder) Crabtree. She grew up in Minnesota and moved to Lynden in 1941. She was married to Renier Elenbaas in Lynden on Sept. 27, 1946, and he survives her at the family home. Ruth was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Clamdiggers Association. Her chief interests were her Christian faith, her family, her home, her flower gardens, and her work with youth at the Lynden fair. Survivors besides her husband include five daughters, Rebecca Olsen and husband David of the Union of South Africa, Rhoda Vander Mey and husband Rick of Issaquah, Rachel Olson (sic) and husband Mark of Bothell, and Rosalie Elenbaas and Abi Elenbaas, both of Lynden; two sons, Joe Elenbaas and wife Melanie of Bellingham and Lloyd Elenbaas and wife Mary of Lynden; three sisters, Lucy and husband Robert Seidelmann of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Hazel Soukup of Ames, Iowa, and Sylvia and husband Donald Miller of Farmington, Minn.; three brothers, Henry Crabtree and wife Ella Mae of Ellendale, Minn., Daniel Crabtree and wife Phyllis of Austin, Minn., and Seth Crabtree and wife Fern of Lime Springs, Iowa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Serena and Robert Haugen of Lynden; 11 grandchildren and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Perle, in 1947 and a brother, Walter Crabtree. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

ELERDING, Carl, 77, passed away Friday, December 8, (1972). Surviving him are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Penix, Seattle; two brothers, Ira, Bellingham and Claude, Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Annis Wilson, Bellingham and Alva Newcombe, Bothell; a step-daughter, Geraldine Stohr, South Carolina, and nine grandchildren.

ELERDING, Ira D., 91 years, 2715 James St., a lifetime resident of Bellingham, passed away in Bellingham on Sat., Jan. 28, 1995. Ira was born in Bellingham May 23, 1903 to George and Julia Blunt Elerding. He married Laura McRae on Oct. 25, 1924 and they had two children, Ira, Jr., and Joy. Mr. Elerding worked as a Wonder Bread salesman for 34 years and won national awards for salesmanship and safe driving. He was an avid salmon and steelhead fisherman who loved the outdoors and took many trailer adventures. He amused family and friends with his jokes and stories. "Never met a stranger!" was his motto and when paying bills in person he liked to add a lovely dahlia bouquet from his fall garden. He was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon; he was a member of the Teamsters Union, Sehome Chapter #17, O.E.S., and a fifty-year member of Whatcom Lodge #151 F&AM. Both Mr. Elerding's wife Laura and their son Ira, Jr. preceded him in death. His second wife, Laura Magner, whom he married in 1974 died in 1993. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Joy and Jim Norris of Ferndale; a brother Claude of Seattle; a sister Elva Newcomb of Bellingham; numerous nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as his good friends Ira Yeager and Bill Benecke, both of Bellingham. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1031 N. Garden with the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Interment Greenacres Memorial Park. ELERDING, Jennie May, age 63, 2220 Elizabeth Street, passed away Thursday, October 15, (1964). Mrs. Elerding was born in North Dakota, and had resided in this city the past thirty-four years. Survivors are her husband, Carl, at home; one daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Stohr, Sacramento, Cal.; one brother, Elmon Hutchinson, Chico, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Niensber (Nienaber?), Lynden; Mrs. Cora Taylor, Seattle, and Mrs. Vada Horn, Chehalis. ELERDING, Laura G., of 2715 James St. died Wednesday, June 2, 1993. She was 84. Visitation will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. She was born March 7, 1909, in Woodinville to William and Mary Wells Wood. The daughter and granddaughter of early Whatcom County pioneers, she spent most of her life in the county. She married Ira D. Elerding on July 24, 1974. Mrs. Elerding loved the outdoors, bird watching and wildlife. She also enjoyed writing poetry and searching for objects with her metal detector. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Magner; by a son, Glen Magner; and by a daughter, Fay Hoggatt. Survivors include her second husband, Ira, of the family home; son Merle Magner of Bellingham; daughters Joyce Hayertz of Puyallup and Nelda Pritchard of Lynden; sisters Roberta Ross and Barbara Ivie, both of Bellingham, Pearl Bradley of Seattle and Mabel Wagner of Tacoma; stepdaughter Joy Norris of Ferndale; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

ELEY, Beatrice, 74, of 5591 Second Ave., Ferndale, died Saturday (April 5, 1986) at her home. She was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and had been a Ferndale resident for eight years. Before moving to this area, she was a Montrose, Calif., resident for 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ferndale. Survivors include her husband, John C. Eley, Ferndale; a son, John F. Eley, Ferndale; and a sister, Velma Robson of Stoneboro, Pa. ELEY, John C., 78 years, 5591 2nd St., Ferndale, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Bellingham, on Feb. 21, 1991 following a short illness. He was born Oct. 13, 1912 in Monaca, PA. In 1943 he moved his family to California. In 1978 he retired from working for the City of Glendale and he and his wife Beatrice (Bea) moved to Ferndale. She passed away in 1986. ELICH, Peter, age 80, of 922 Eleventh Street, passed away at a local hospital Saturday, August 12, (1950) following a lingering illness. Mr. Elich had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 45 years; he was a member of the Church of the Assumption. ELICH, Tony - A Mass of Christian Burial for Tony Elich, 88, of Bellingham, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Elich of 1108 Taylor Ave. died Friday (Sept. 21, 1990) at St. Joseph Hospital. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Westford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. He was born Dec. 12, 1901, in Vis, Yugoslavia and moved at age 10 to Bellingham. He married Catheryn Mardesich in Bellingham on Nov. 29, 1930. Mr. Elich was a commercial fisherman and also worked at the Anacortes Plywood mill as a laborer. His hobbies included wood handicrafts and making children's toys for donation to non-profit groups. Survivors include his wife, Catheryn Elich of the family home; son, Peter Elich of Bellingham; niece, Katherine Evich of Bellingham; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. ELICK, Lois M., 70, 2629 Iron St., died Monday (June 16, 1986) in Bellingham. Mrs. Elik was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Alberte, Utah, and was a Bellingham resident for 40 years. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association, the American Lupus Society, the Bellingham Senior Activity Center and the Garden Street Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Westford Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery. ELICK, Vince, age 74 of 809 12th St., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Jan. 22, (1956) following an extended illness. Mr. Elick had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 45 years and was a retired fish buyer. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart. He is survived by his wife, Veronica; two sons, Tony J. and Louis D. Elick, both of Bellingham; one stepson, John Lucas; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Planchich, both of Tacoma; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister in Yugoslavia. Rosary will be said Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 9:30 a.m. within the Church of the Sacred Heart. Interment Bayview.

ELIN, Josephine, age 83, of 1525 Grant Street, passed away at a local hospital early Friday morning, February 17, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Elin had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 48 years. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Sparre, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Phoebe Wilson, of Mission City, B.C.; six sons, Axel, of Waterloo, Iowa, David and Carl, of Chicago, Otto, of Los Angeles, Oscar, of Milwaukee, and Paul, of Bellingham; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister in Sweden. Funeral services will be conducted from the Champion Street Baptist Church in Bellingham, Tuesday, February 21, at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of the Henderson Funeral Home in Mission City, B.C., with the Rev. Anton E. Sjoland officiating. Interment in Hazelwood Cemetery, Abbotsford, B.C.

ELINGS, Dierck Anthony, Rev., age 63, of 1900 J Street, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, July 8, (1951) following a short illness. Rev. Ellings had been a resident of Bellingham since July 1, coming from Platte, S.D.., to serve as the regional missionary of Classis Cascade in Bellingham. Surviving relatives include his wife, Jeanne Ramerman Elings, at home; two sons, James, U.S. army in Louisiana, and Richard in Seattle, and a daughter, Ruth, of Sioux Falls, S.D. Services will be conducted Thursday, July 12, at 2 p.m. within the First Reformed Church in Lynden with the Rev. A. Van Bronkhorst, of Nooksack officiating. The remains will be forwarded to Yakima by the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden for graveside services Friday.

ELINGS, Jeanne, age 87, formerly of 215 Fifth St., Lynden, passed away Mon., June 26, 1978. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she moved to Denver in 1909 and then to Redlands, CA in 1911. While in Redlands she was united in marriage to George Ramerman on May 18, 1915. From there, they moved to Prinsburg, Minnesota and then to Lynden in 1918, where Mr. Ramerman served as principal of Lynden Christian School until his passing in 1938. A member of the Second Christian Reformed Church, Mrs. Elings had been active in church work for more than 50 years. She helped organize the Lynden Christian Mother's Club and was married to Rev. D. A. Elings in 1946. He passed away in 1951. She is survived by 3 sons, Byron of Everett, Harold in Pasco and Allan of Lynden; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Fri., June 30 at 2 p.m. in the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Andrew Cammenga officiating. Burial will follow in Monumenta Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

ELKINS, Aubrey Francis, age 83, of Bellingham passed away Fri., Mar. 28, 1997, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Milford, TX to Wylie and Ocie (Lamb) Elkins. In his early life, during the depression, he was a hobo and rode the rails. He moved to Whatcom County in 1937 living in the Everson and Nooksack areas before moving to Bellingham. Mr. Elkins was a member of First Advent Christian Church where he served as a trustee for many years. He was raised as an orphan and adopted at the age of 57 by Effie Schall of Beardstown, IL. He worked as a logger, an autobody worker at Mades in Everson, and sold real estate. He and his first wife Esther ran college housing for Western Washington University in the 1970's and worked with his son in 1978, in California, building pole buildings. He married Mary Jane Setzer on Nov. 25, 1983, in Bellingham. Mr. Elkins enjoyed working in his yard and believed in hard work. Survived by his wife, Mary Jane Elkins of the family home; children, Howard & wife Sallie Elkins and their children, Bradley Elkins, Darin Elkins, Tamara Highfill all of Lodi, CA; step-children, Sharon Wakeley of Deming, Karen Gustafson of Blaine, John D. Setzer of Spanaway and Tom Starbuck of Everson; 14 grandchildren: Judy Chartier, Aaron Fraser, Arthur Bailey, Trina Gustafson, Robert Bailey, Dan Starbuck, Sandra Alvis, Sarah Starbuck, Christy Porter and Tom and Michael Setzer; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members. Preceded in death by wife Esther; step-daughter, Cheryl Starbuck and brother Otis Elkins. Visitation will be on Mon., Mar. 31, noon to 8 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will precede the memorial service at Greenacres Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held Tues., Apr. 1, 1:30 p.m. at First Advent Christian Church with Reverends David Crook and Al Currier officiating. Greenacres Funeral Home & Crematorium.

ELKINS, Dewey Francis, age 46, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 1, 1946), at the family home, 1508 Mill Avenue. Mr. Elkins had been a resident of this community for the past five years and was a blacksmith. Surviving relatives are the widow, Clara L. Elkins, at home; two sons, William D. and Robert, of Bellingham; one daughter, Margerite, at home; one sister, Mrs. Foster Sharp and one brother, Harvey, both of Bellingham. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Rev. Paul Woodward, Friday, January 3 at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

ELKINS, Esther V. of 1400 Moore Street passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, February 20, 1983 at the age of 67. She was an apartment house manager and former manager of Elkins Hall; a life time resident of Bellingham; and had been a 40 year member of the First Advent Christian Church. She leaves to survive her husband, Aubrey Elkins of Bellingham; 1 son, Howard of California; 2 brothers, Floyd Potter & Burton Potter, both of Bellingham; 3 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25 at 2 p.m. at the Jern & LeVeck Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Greenacres Memorial Park with Rev. Leon A. Bohy officiating. [b. ELKINS, Joseph D. - Graveside services for Joseph D. Elkins will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenacres Cemetery. Mr. Elkins, 33, of Talco, Texas, died after he apparently drove his automobile off a dock into the waters of Blaine Harbor on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, 1985). Divers located the car on New Year's Day, but Mr. Elkins' body was not discovered until Thursday. He was born Feb. 14, 1952, in Whatcom County. He worked as a cable television lineman. Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife, Carol Elkins; a son, Jason Armstrong; two daughters, Kim Armstrong and Jennifer Elkins, all of Sedro Woolley; his mother, Ruby Wren, of Ferndale; and two sisters, Barbara Robertson, of Custer, and JoAnne Lavine, of Ferndale. Arrangements are by Jerns-McKinney Funeral Chapel.

ELKINS, Rick, 59, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 18, (2006). Rick will be remembered by his family and friends as being a talented wood carver, a gifted musician with the voice of an angel, a lover of Elvis, and a man who found humor in life even through adversity. Rick is survived by his loving wife Anne; beloved children Aaron (Shannon) Jacoby, Krista (Josh) Jacoby Blume, Kyle and Tyler Elkins; grandson Nolan Jacoby; mother June House; brothers and sisters Rhonda (Don) Howard, Chris (Dennis) Olason, Brad Elkins, Cyd (Leroy) Dougall, Rob (Robin) Elkins, Randy (Chris) Elkins, Tom (Victoria) Elkins, Danny (Vera) Elkins, Cook Woods, Tony Ford; aunt Margot Rowe; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Saturday, November 25 at 1 p.m. at the Blaine Senior Center.

Christensen, Pastor, Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Mr. Elkins passed away Wed. Sept. 9, 1987. ELKINS, William Durward, age 29, of 2120 C St., passed away in Concrete Saturday, July 23, (1960). Mr. Elkins had resided in Bellingham for the past 17 years; was employed as a cook at the Kit Carson Cafe in Concrete. Survivors are his widow, Ruby; one son, Joseph D.; two daughters, Jo Ann and Barbara Ann, all at home; mother, Mrs. Clara Hudson; and brother, Robert Elkins; one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Chapin; one aunt, Mrs. F. B. Sharp, all of Bellingham; one uncle, Harvey Elkins, of Indio, Calif. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. William J. Gunter Tuesday, July 26 at 3:00 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.
