EMANUEL, Joseph, age 70 years, of Bellingham, passed away Friday, February 29th, (1952) at a local hospital, following a lingering illness. Mr. Emanuel had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 47 years and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. He is survived by one brother, Charles Emanuel, in Iowa, and one niece, Helen Dvorak, of Cleveland, Ohio. Mass will be said by Rev. Father Bernard Cremer, Wednesday, March 12, at 8:15 from the Church of the Assumption. Interment, Bay View Cemetery under the direction of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home.

EMBLER, Elsie Fern, age 66 of 12110 Laurel Ave., Whittier, Calif., passed away in that city Saturday, November 13, (1971). A former resident of Bellingham and Blaine, she had made her home in California since 1968. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. Richard C. Andersen and Mrs. John Dickman, both of Bellingham; Mrs. Ronald Walsh, Blaine; Mrs. William Wells of Whittier, Calif.; 2 sons, Carroll White of Whittier and William White of Eatontown, New Jersey; a brother, Charles Wood of Monteno, Ill.; 2 sisters, Kate Rankins of Fresno, Calif.; Hazel Deloche of Beardstown, Ill.; also 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. EMBREE, Ruth Laverne, age 85, 409 York St., passed away Tues. Feb. 21, 1989. A lifetime Bellingham resident, she is survived by her son, Stanley A. EMBREY, Donald Craig, 7-week-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene E. Embrey of 1100 Grant Street, passed away suddenly at the family home Saturday, April 3, (1954). Besides the parents he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Embrey, city; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Gable of Los Angeles, Calif., many other relatives. EMEL, Charles, age 93, of 916 E. North St., passed away Thurs., Nov. 2, 1978. Surviving are 1 son, Elbert Danley of Seattle; a daughter, Mrs. Vernon Frisk of B'ham; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. EMERICK, Joseph A., age 81 years, of Blaine, passed away Thursday, November 25, (1948) at a local hospital. Mr. Emerick had been a Blaine resident for the past six years and leaves to survive, one daughter, Mrs. Joe Clark, of Blaine; two sons, Elmer, of Tacoma, and Chester, of Miami, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Bullock, of Seattle, and Mrs. Carrie Hawman, of Tacoma; also one brother, Herbert, of Tacoma. EMERICK, Kirk Roland, age 31, of 1601 Lincoln St., Bellingham, died in Bellingham, Sunday, Nov. 29, 1987. He was born in California. He leaves to survive his brother, Gerry Emerick of Cashmere; his good friend, Theresa Knezek of Bellingham. EMERSON, Anna B., age 86, of 1618 Donovan, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, November 16, (1958). Mrs. Emerson had resided in this community for the past 50 years, and was a member of the Undenominational Christian Service. She leaves to survive one son, Emory, and one grandson, Allen, both of Bellingham and one sister in Norway. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Mr. Robert Dye and Mr. Oliver Borene Wednesday, November 19 at 10 a.m. Final resting place Bow Cemetery.

EMERSON, Arthur Julian, 1400 MacKenzie Ave., and 80-year resident of Whatcom County, died Monday (Aug. 19, 1968) in a local hospital at age 82. Mr. Emerson is survived by his widow, Cora, at Home; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Easton and Mrs. Robert W. Teshera, Bellingham; five granddaughters; and two sisters, Mrs. H. O. Burritt and Mrs. E. EMERSON, Catherine B., age 72, of Bayview Ave. in Blaine, passed away Mon., May 22, 1978. A retired cost accountant, she had made her home in Blaine for the past 10 years. EMERSON, Cora Cowden, age 92, formerly of 1400 McKenzie Ave., passed away Mon. July 9, 1984. She is survived by 2 daughters, Virginia Karns & Phyllis Teshera; 5 granddaughters, Alexis, Renee, Andree, Stephanie & Suzanne; 1 great-grandson, Arthur. She was preceded in death by her husband A. Julian Emerson in 1968. A lifetime Bellingham resident, Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Pioneer Association of the State of Washington and a longtime member of the Hillside Garden Club. EMERSON, Lucile - Services for Burlington resident Lucile Emerson, 89, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Hulbush Funeral Home. Rites will be conducted by Holly Chapter No. 199, Order of the Eastern Star, Burlington. The ashes will be buried in a private service at Mount Vernon Cemetery. Mrs. Emerson died Wednesday (June 26, 1991) at the Skagit Valley Convalescent center. She was born Lucile Carter on June 23, 1902, in Topeka, Kan., to John Carter and Sarah VanNostrand Carter. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1920, and married Ernest E. Emerson on June 5, 1926, in Topeka. The couple moved to Washington in 1943, and lived in Oak Harbor and Sedro-Woolley before moving to Burlington in 1949. Mrs. Emerson and her husband owned the Burlington Journal, a weekly newspaper, from 1949 to 1959. Mr. Emerson died in 1967. Mrs. Emerson was a member of the First Christian Church, Mount Vernon; past worthy matron of Holly Chapter No. 199, Order of Eastern Star, Burlington; a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; past grand representative to Kansas for the Order; past royal matron of Mount Vernon Court No. 28, the Order of Amaranth; past president of the Zulieka Club No. 7, Mount Vernon; member of the Hatasu Temple No. 1, Seattle, Daughters of the Nile; past president of the Alpha Club, Burlington; member of the Federated Women's Club; past mother adviser of Sedro-Woolley Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls; recipient of Grand Cross of Colors; and a member of the Typographical Union in Topeka. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Holl of Bellingham and Dorothy Higgs of Topeka; her son, Kenneth Emerson of Santa Clara, Calif.; her sister, Dorothea Brooks of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

EMERSON, Theoline Stensrud, age 85, of 1133 Twenty-first Street, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, April 27, (1952). Mrs. Emerson had resided here for the past 63 years and leaves to survive, one son, A. Julian Emerson, of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Alma T. Burritt, of this city, and Mrs. Elmer Scott of Seattle; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Dr. Margaret W. Kupfer Tuesday, April 29, at 1:00 p.m. Cremation.

EMERY, Hazel S. of 1615 Circle Drive, Lacey, died March 31st, (1977) at an Olympia hospital. Born August 24, 1892 in Morris, Minnesota, she received her early education from Carlton College in Northfield, Minnesota and taught in North Dakota and Washington. She married Harry E. Emery in 1918 and they had made their home in Bellingham from 1924 to 1961. They moved to Bellevue at that time where they lived until Mr. Emery died in 1974. Mrs. Emery had made her home at Panorama City in Lacey for the past 2 years. She had been a member of the National Retired Teachers' Association, Chapter E.Z. of P.E.O. in Bellevue and had been active in Y.W.C.A. work in Bellingham. Surviving are 2 nephews, Richard Morgan of Austin, Minnesota and Hugh S. Stinson of Alderbrook, Union, Wa.; and 1 niece, Miss Shirley Stinson of Stanton, Ca. Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 1977 at 2:00 p.m. in the Quinault Chapel at Panorama City in Lacy. EMES, Frank, age 65 of 2630 Franklin St., passed away in a local hospital Monday, January 13, (1958). Mr. Emes had resided in this community for the past 50 years and was a watchman for the Pacific American Fisheries, and was a veteran of World War I and also a member of the American Legion, Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7. He leaves to survive one brother, A. J. Emes of Bellingham, 3 sisters, Mrs. Addie Swank of Coulee City, Wash.; Mrs. Bessie Myron of Seattle and Mrs. Letta Rogers of Bellingham. EMLEY, Charles W., Sr. "Bill" age 66 of 2504 Henry St., passed away Friday, August 26, (1966). A resident for the past 54 years, he was a watchman for the Port of Bellingham. Survived by his wife, Annabell; 1 son, Charles W. Jr.; 1 daughter, Mrs. Annabell Vitaljic; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Grace Nicolav; 4 half-sisters, Mrs. Minnie Dexter, Mrs. Bessie Jones, Mrs. Juanita Pleman, Mrs. Laura Hale, all of Bellingham. EMLEY, John, 65, of Chelan, Wash., died at a Chelan nursing home Wednesday (April 11, 1984). He was born July 23, 1918 in Bellingham and lived the first 10 years of his life in Glacier. He is survived by three sisters. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale. Arrangements are by Precht Funeral Home of Chelan. The Rev. EMMERSON, Arthur N., age 80 of 3527 Woodlawn Ave. North, Seattle, passed away in that city on Tues. Feb. 12, (1980). Born in Clay Center, Kansas, Mr. Emmerson moved to the Everson area in 1902 and then to Seattle in 1940. A retired rigger, Mr. Emmerson had been employed for 22 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth of Mercer Island, Jack of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Mrs. Nora VanOver of Lynden and Mrs. Edna Caley of Seattle; numerous nieces and nephews. EMMERSON, Charlotte E., age 79 years, formerly of Bellingham, passed away at a Spokane hospital, Wednesday, September 1, (1948) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Emmerson was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She leaves to survive, two daughters, Mrs. Leafie Compton, Malta, Mont., and Mrs. Violet Murdock, Mawer, Sask.; four sons, Francis E. Emmerson, Dodson, Mont., Harold J., of Seattle, Miles H. of Hogeland, Mont., and Percy W., of Bellingham. Baker High School graduate. EMMERSON, Harriet, age 85, of Everson, passed away at the home of her daughter, Tuesday, March 21, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Emmerson had been a resident of the Everson district for the past 49 years. Surviving relatives include six daughters, Ella Edwards, Jennie Caley and Nora Van Over, all of Everson, Edna Caley and Gertrude Caley, both of Seattle, and Ruth Manning, of Silverdale, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. EMMERSON, Mabel E., age 79, of 3527 Woodlawn Ave. N., Seattle, passed away Fri., June 14, 1979. Born in the Nooksack area, Mrs. Emmerson moved to Seattle in 1940. She was a member of the Burke Chapel in Seattle & was married to her husband, Arthur in B'ham on Sept. 24, 1918. Besides her husband, Arthur, she is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth of Mercer Island & Jack of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Endersbe of Blaine, Mrs. May Ploeg of Mt. EMMERSON, Jonathan N., age 90 years, of 1817 Knox Ave., passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, (1957) following a short illness. He was a former resident of the Hopewell district, having came there in 1911. He had resided in Bellingham the past 10 years. Mr. Emmerson was a member of the Nooksack Methodist Church. He is survived by four nieces. EMMERSON, Julia A., age 83, of Route 2, Everson, passed away at a local hospital Tuesday, March 27, (1951). Mrs. Emmerson had been a resident of the Everson district since 1911, and was a member of the Nooksack Methodist Church. Surviving relatives include her husband, Jonathan N., and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Lyle, of Bellingham. Services will be conducted within the Nooksack Methodist Church Friday., March 30, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Woodward officiating. EMMONS, Luie F., age 78 of 1112 Monroe St., passed away Sat. June 9, (1979). Mr. Emmons had been a life resident of Bellingham and was a retired machinest. He was a veteran of WWI and a member of the American Legion Post No. 7, VFW Post No. 1585 and the Machinest Union Local 239. He leaves to survive his wife, Mary M. of the family home, 2 sons, Allen & Gene Emmons both of this city, 4 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild, 1 sister, Maye Schinnel of Tacoma. EMMONS, Mary M. - A private, family graveside service for Mary M. (Goenen) Emmons of Whatcom County will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, with the Rev. Al Currier officiating. Mrs. Emmons died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Bellingham Health Care & Rehabilitation Services. She was 88. Born June 29, 1911, to John C. and Nellie (Hall) Goenen in Willow City, N.D., she had been a Whatcom County resident since 1920. On May 10, 1930, she married Luie F. Emmons in Bellingham. He died in 1979. Mrs. Emmons worked as a seamstress, cook, realtor and dry cleaner. Mrs. Emmons was a member of the Veterans' Auxiliary, Machinists' Auxiliary No. 268 and the Dry Cleaners' Union. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, camping and fishing. Survivors include sons Gene Emmons of Bellingham and Allen Emmons of Everson, brother Jack Goenen of Whidbey Island, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home of Ferndale.

EMRY, Mildred Z., 91, a former Bellingham resident, died Saturday in Olympia. Mrs. Emry lived in Bellingham from 1941 to 1970, when she and her late husband Ralph, a carpenter, moved to Olympia to be near two of their children. He died in 1972. While here, Mrs. Emry was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekahs. She was born in Saguache, Colo. Surviving are four sons and a daughter. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Olympia.

ENDERSBE, Marjorie M., age 67 of Lopez, Wash., passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, (1979). Mrs. Endersbe had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 27 years and leaves to survive her husband, M. Dale Endersbe of the family home; 2 sisters, Mrs. Corinne Greenwood of this city and Mrs. Floria Renton of Honolulu; 1 brother, Joseph E. ENDERSBE, Marvin A., age 67 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Rue Endersbe, passed away at the family residence, 2412 Cherry Street, Saturday, May 4, (1946) following a lingering illness. Mr. Endersbe had been a resident of Bellingham for the past thirty years and leaves to survive, beside his widow and a host of friends, three daughters, Mrs. Irene Lambert, Mrs. Muriel Pratt and Mrs. Arlie M. Roberson; two sons, Orin D. Endersbe and M. Dale Endersbe, all of Bellingham; two brothers, Arthur, of Minnesota, and George, of Saskatchewan; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Farnsworth, Calif., and Mrs. Alpha Deppe, Minnesota; also six grandchildren. The remains are resting at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 9, at 3 p.m. with the Elder A. J. Gordon officiating. Interment, Bay View. ENDERSBE, Orin D. - Memorial services for Orin D. Endersbe, 81, 919 11th St., will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Westford Funeral Home. The Rev. Leonard Ericksen will officiate. Mr. Endersbe died Saturday (Feb. 21, 1987) at his home. He was born July 10, 1905, in Minonan, Minn. and had been a resident of Bellingham for 72 years. He and his wife, Dorothea, were married March 26, 1927, in Bellingham. Mr. Endersbe was a retired vice president of the local branch of Seattle First National Bank and had worked for the bank for 42 years. He also was a past president of the Propeller Club and a past chairman of the board and treasurer of the Red Cross organization. Mr. Endersbe was a member of the Bellingham Central Lions Club and a Bellingham Golf and Country Club member. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and he was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea of the family home; a son, Richard Endersbe of San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Endersbe of Bellingham and Bob Gates of Ferndale; a sister, Arlie Roberson of Bellingham; and several nieces and nephews. ENDERSBE, Rue Newell, age 84, of 200 E. Pine St., passed away Saturday May 11, (1968). She had been a resident for the past 55 years and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, The Bellingham Music Club, The Bellingham Camera and Stamp Club. Survived by 3 sons, Orin and Dale, City; Robert Gates of Ferndale; 2 daughters, Mrs. Muriel Pratt and Mrs. Arlie Roberson, both city; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. ENDERSBY, Alice M., age 80, of 4832 Sand Rd., Bellingham, passed away Tues., Oct. 22, 1985 at home. She was born Feb. 24, 1905 in Bellingham and was a lifetime resident of Bellingham. She was a member of Lynden Gospel Hall and retired from St. Joseph's Hospital Dietary Kitchen about 15 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver in 1977. ENDERSBY, Nellie S., age 97, formerly of E. Smith Rd., passed away Thursday, March 15, (1973) in a local rest home. Mrs. Endersby had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1920, and spent the last ten years in Ferndale. She was a member of the Evergreen Community Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Betsy Huntley of Gig Harbor; one son Oliver of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Bean of Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Ruth Schrieber of Muscatine, Iowa; two brothers, Jacob Meerdink of Charles City, Iowa, and Paul Meerdink of Muscatine, and eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren. ENDICOTT, Neola Jane - Bellingham nurse Neola Jane Endicott, 1308 Birchwood Ave., will be buried in Freeport Cemetery in Freeport, Mich. She died in a Bellingham convalescent center on Sept. 15, (1991). She was 69. No local services will be held. Born Neola Curtiss on Nov. 4, 1921, in Freeport, she had been an area resident about 10 years, working as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital. ENERTSON, Dorothy H., of 401 York St. died Thursday, Sept. 29, 1994, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. She was 90. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saxon Cemetery with the Rev. ENFIELD, Ruth passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, (2004) after a courageous battle with cancer. She died at her home peacefully in the loving care of her family. She was 55 years old. ENGBERG, Mary E., 92, who worked as a waitress here for many years, died Sunday (Dec. 27, 1987) in Bellingham. Engberg, 409 York St., was born Oct. 29, 1895, in Bellingham and had lived here since 1944. She attended St. James Presbyterian Church, and had worked as a waitress in restaurants in Bellingham and other cities from 1919 to 1950. At her request, there will be no services. ENGDAHL, John Albert, age 77, of 2376 Mt. Baker Hiway, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, August 11, (1956). Mr. Engdahl came to Seattle in 1888 and has been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 60 years. He was a retired Dairy and Poultry farmer, was a member of the Rome Community Church, the Rome Grange, and the Washington Co-op. ENGEBRETSON, Josephine of Bellingham died Sunday, May 23, 1993. She was 69. A gathering of her family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. June 26 at her son's home, 3105 Plymouth Drive. Born April 8, 1924, in Meadowdale, she graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard. A longtime resident of Port Orchard, she worked as a beautician. She was born July 31, 1905 in Watauga County, North Carolina and had resided in the Alger and Burlington area for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Burlington Lutheran Church. Surviving her are her husband Charles, 4 sisters, Terence Davis, Maude Sullivan and Mae Swanland all of Burlington, Thelma Cheatham, Seattle, 2 brothers, Fred Wiles, Burlington and Burl Wiles, Sedro Woolley, numerous nieces & nephews. ENGELSEN, Lauretta P. - Visitation for Lauretta P. "Larry" Engelsen of Bellingham will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Born Feb. 4, 1907, to Paul and Lucy Ottestad Larson in Bellingham, she married A. Vernon Engelsen Aug. 8, 1927, in Seattle. Mrs. Engelsen was the first cashier to work at the opening of Mount Baker Theatre in 1927. She was a member of Allen-Blanchard United Methodist Church, Hatasau Temple No. 1, Amaranth No. 28 and several study clubs; past matron of Holly Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and Zulicka Club, Daughters of the Nile; and charter member of Bellingham Friends of the Library. Survivors include her husband, sister Shirley Mae Clodfelter of Mount Vernon, brother Lester Larson of Clovis, Calif., one nephew and three nieces.

ENGELSON, Agnes M., age 39, of Route 2, Ferndale, passed away suddenly at a local hospital Saturday, August 26, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Engelson had been a resident of the Ferndale district for the past four years. Surviving relatives include her husband, Elmer J.; two daughters, Barbara and Betty, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Iver Gradley, and a brother, Roy Bradley, all of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of the Monroe Mortuary in Ferndale Wednesday, August 30, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Alf Hjemboe officiating. Interment in Enterprise Cemetery.

ENGELSON, Pearl Alice died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997. She was 89. No service will be held. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Born April 8, 1907, to Torger and Alida Thomas Engelsen in Bellingham, she graduated from Whatcom High School. Ms. Engelson retired as office manager from Whatcom Medical Bureau in 1973. ENGELSON, Robin T., age 65, 1574 Meridian Road, passed away Sunday, May 17, (1964). Mr. Engelson was a forty-one year resident of this community and was a commercial fisherman before retiring. ENGER, Anne Louise, age 87, passed away at the family home, 1306 E. Victor Street, Thursday, September 26, (1946). Mrs. Enger had resided in this community for the past fifty-six years and was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church. ENGELSON, Clara B., age 81, Mt. Vernon, died Feb. 10, (1984) in Mt. Vernon. She was born Dec. 16, 1902 in Finley, N.D. As a young girl she moved to Ceylon, Saskatchewan. She came to Lynden in 1926. She married Robin Engelson in 1936; he preceded her in death in 1964. She lived in Bellingham from 1936 until 1974 when she moved to Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Engelson was an assistant cashier for National Bank of Commerce in Lynden for many years, retiring Dec. 31, 1968. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, and Rees Fellowship. Survivors are nieces and nephews, Marvin Cannon, Burlington, Edwin Temsland of Radville, Saskatchewan, Arlene Tiland, Anacortes, Sharon Lange, Ellensburg, Shirley Dawson, Yorktown, Saskatchewan; 17 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Kern Funeral Home Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m., with burial in the Bellingham Bay View Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Kern Funeral Home until Wednesday at 11.

ENGELSON, Lewis, age 74 years, resident of Grandview district near Ferndale, since 1924, passed away at Minot, North Dakota, on Monday evening, June 9, (1947) while on a visit. He is survived by one son, Elmer J., of Ferndale; one brother, Gilbert, of Centralia, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Martha Amundson, of Clear Lake, Iowa; also two grandchildren, Barbara and Betty of Ferndale, and several nieces and nephews. ENGELSON, Serine Josephine, age 95 of 6930 Kickerville Rd., Ferndale, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, (1969). Mrs. Engelson had been a resident of the Custer area for 49 years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Emma Gorze of Minot, N.D., Mrs. Ida Gorze of Ferndale, Mrs. Clara Melseth of Blaine; 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives. ENGELSON, Torger C., age 82, of 1574 Meridian Road, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, November 26, (1952). Mr. Engelson had resided in this community for the past 29 years, and was a retired ship's carpenter. He was a member of the Mt. Constitution Lodge No. 88, I.O.O.F., at Orcas Island. Surviving relatives include two sons, A. V. Engelson and Robin Engelson, both of Bellingham; and a daughter, Miss Pearl Engelson, also of Bellingham. ENGER, Ethel A. - Services for Ethel A. Enger, 80, a retired Acme dairy farmer, who lived in Sedro-Woolley, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lemley Funeral Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. The Rev. Ann Karwaski and the Rev. John Stewart will officiate the services. Burial will be in Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Mrs. Enger died Friday (Oct. 28, 1988) at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. She was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Hurley, S.D. In 1930, she moved with husband Frank Harkness to Whatcom County and settled near Acme. He died in 1948. For several years in the 1950s, she owned and operated a small restaurant in Bellingham. She also ran an Acme dairy farm, which she sold to her son, Richard Harkness, in 1969. She was a member of the Acme Presbyterian Church, the Dorcas Circle, the Nooksack American Legion Auxiliary and the Twin Sisters-Samish Valley Grange. She married Ed Hanson in 1952. He died in 1955. In 1958, she married Raymond Enger, who died in 1981. Survivors include three sons, Frank Harkness of Bellingham, John Harkness of Wickersham and Richard Harkness of Acme; two daughters, Virginia Handy of Sedro-Woolley and Mary Barnhill of Wenatchee; a sister Edith Harkness of Van Zandt; a brother, John Olmstead of Wyoming; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

ENGER, John, age 83 of Cambria Pines, California, passed away on Tues., Dec. 9, (1975). He was born and raised in Whatcom County. He is survived by his wife, Gurtie; 1 daughter, Mrs. Virginia Giusti, Fresno, Calif.; 4 sisters, 2 from Seattle, Mrs. Marie Kuipers and Miss Esther Enger and 2 from Bellingham, Miss May Enger and Mrs. Louis Den Adel. ENGER, May, 91, of Bellingham passed away Friday, July 8, 1994 at Bellingham Health Care & Rehabilitation Services Center. She was born May 6, 1903 in Bellingham to Stengrim and Anna (Hansen) Enger and was a long time Whatcom County resident. She was a retired nurse. She is survived by sister, Esther Enger, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mabel Moe, and nine other brothers and sisters. ENGER, Raymond L., age 78, former Acme area resident, died in Sedro Woolley Oct. 7, (1981). Born in Minn, in 1903, came to Acme in 1945, where he was engaged in farming. A WWII Veteran serving for the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage with Ethel Harkness in 1958. For the past 4 years the couple have made their home in Secro Woolley. ENGESETH, Emily E., 88, passed away at the Christian Rest Home in Lynden on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1992. She was born in Thief River Falls, Minn. on June 29, 1903 to Julian and Julia (Josephson) Jacobson. She moved with her family to Saskatchewan and to Anacortes in 1918. She was married there to her first husband, Anton Johnson, on March 1, 1920. They moved to Lynden in 1927 and Mr. Johnson passed away in 1946. In Lawrence, Emily was married to Harold Engeseth on Feb. 4, 1949. He passed away in 1986. She is survived by daughter Eleanor Shagren and husband Henry of Lynden; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Lynden United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Joyce O'Conner officiating. Burial will follow in Lynden Cemetery. Visitation at Gillies Funeral Home will be until 5 p.m., today, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

ENGESETH, Harold R., age 74, formerly of 4288 West Rd., Blaine, passed away in Lynden on Wed. Jan. 1, 1986. Born Feb. 5, 1911 in Markerville, Alberta, Mr. Engeseth moved to the Blaine area with his family in 1913. Prior to his retirement Mr. Engeseth had owned & operated a fishing boat out of Blaine for many years and had fished locally as well as in Alaska. During WWII he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and was a past master of Blaine Masonic Lodge. He was married to Emily Johnson in Lawrence on Feb. 6, 1949. Survived by his wife Emily of Lynden; a step-daughter, Mrs. Eleanor & husband Henry Shagren of Lynden; 4 step-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren; numerous niece & nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sat. Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. Miles Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Lynden Cemetery.

ENGESETH, John N., 72, Route 2, Blaine, died at a Bellingham Hospital, Thursday (Sept. 6, 1973) following an extended illness. Born in Duluth, Minn., Aug. 20, 1901, Mr. Engeseth was a retired millworker and had made his home in the Blaine area since 1913. Surviving are two sisters; Dorothy West of Blaine; Astrid Dundaf of Vancouver, B.C.; one brother, Harold, of Blaine and numerous nieces and nephews. ENGHOLM, Robert R. - The funeral for former Acme resident Robert R. Engholm, 64, of Rock Island, Ill., was May 29 in Davenport, Iowa, with burial at Davenport Memorial Park. Mr. Engholm died May 25, (1991) following a heart attack. He was born to Swan and Anna Engholm Jan. 29, 1926, in Kimbal, Minn. The family moved to Acme in 1936, and he attended schools in the Mount Baker School District. During World War II, he enlisted in the Merchant Marine. After his service, he returned to Whatcom County, where he learned carpentry. He moved to Iowa, in the early 1950s, and married the former Arlene Caffery in Iowa City in 1952. She died in 1980. Mr. Engholm owned Engholm Improvement Co., a siding-contracting business, in Rock Island. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and boater. Survivors include a daughter, Sally Harper of Rock Island; sons, Chuck Engholm, Davenport Engholm and Dan Engholm, all of Rock Island; sisters, Clara Donahue and Marie Norris, both of Acme; brothers, Carl Engholm of Seattle, Pete Engholm of Sedro-Woolley, Johnny Engholm of Bellingham, George Engholm and Paul Engholm, both of Acme, and Vic Engholm of Deming; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

ENGLAND, Edward John, 2632 Grant St., passed away Saturday, March 25, (1967). Mr. England was a sixteen year resident of this community and was a retired miner. Survivors are his widow, Ella at home; one son, Albert of Kapaa, Hawaii; a stepson, Conrad Sehrt, City; two grandchildren, one great grandchild and four step grandchildren. ENGLER, Jed, age 15, 5384 Northwest Road, Bellingham, passed away in an auto accident Sunday, Dec. 19, 1993. He was born July 18, 1978 in Bellingham to Dwaine and Nancy (Morehouse) Engler. In his short life, Jed brought much joy to his friends and relatives. His inquiring mind was never still as he sought to gain as much knowledge as possible. He had just successfully completed ground school and was aspiring to be a pilot. He was a good student and an avid weight lifter. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. ENGLERT, Franz A., age 76, of Route 1, Ferndale, passed away in a Sedro Woolley Hospital, Tuesday, Dec. 25, (1962) following a short illness. He had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1932 and was a retired farmer. Survivors are two sons, Lester of Cedar Springs, Mich. and Lawrence of Route 1, Ferndale; two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Eyer of Stillquamish, Wash., and Mrs. Virginia Sower of Eugene, Ore. ENGLERT, Jessica Elise - Graveside funeral services for Jessica Elise Englert, infant daughter of Philip and Pearl Englert, 6550 Lunden Rd., Everson were conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Lynden Cemetery with Rev. Paul Landry officiating. Jessica, who died Thursday, Nov. 15, (1984) at University Hospital in Seattle is also survived by her grandparents, Mrs. Elsie Englert and Elmer and Cora Winterberg, all of Lynden; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Kelsey Elizabeth, in February of this year. Funeral services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

ENGLERT, Lawrence F., age 57 of 756 Birch Bay Lynden Rd., Ferndale, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 7, (1975). A WWII veteran, Mr. Engler moved to Whatcom County in 1932 and was married to Elsie Crabtree Nov. 7, 1937 in Lynden. For many years, he was employed by the Elenbaas Dairy and Supply before purchasing the business in 1971 with his partners Ben & Dan Crabtree and Mrs. Dena Haverkamp. He was a member of the Lynden Assembly of God Church and the Puget Sound Antique Tractor Assoc. Mr. Englert leaves to survive his wife Elsie, 3 sons Dale and Philip of Everson and David of Sunnyvale, Calif., 2 daughters Mrs. Carol Edinger of Rosemead, Calif. and Mrs. Kathy Kaatz of Roy, Wash., 2 sisters Mrs. Eleanor Eyer of Kingston, Wash. and Mrs. Virginia Sauer in Eugene, Oregon, 7 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 10 in the Lynden Assembly of God Church with Revs. Nels Lien and Deverett Butrick officiating. Interment will follow in the Lynden Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

ENGLESON, James - No local services are scheduled for James Engleson, 69, of 585 Austin Ave., Coquitalam, B.C., who died Sunday (Sept. 1, 1991) at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus. He was born June 2, 1922, in Fincastle, Alberta, to Engle and Helen Engleson. His wife Ruby survives him at the family home. No local services are scheduled. Cremation arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

ENGLISH, Albert Alfred, Rt. 1, Blaine, died in a local hospital Sunday (Dec. 24, 1961) at the age of 80 after a long illness. Mr. English had lived in Whatcom County 57 years. He was a member of the I. O. O. F in Bellingham. Survivors include his wife, Delia E., at home; a son Llewellyn G. (Lou) English, of Bellingham; a daughter, Mrs. Enid Christensen, in California; several brothers and sister in Montreal, Canada; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

ENGLISH, Albert Edward - Lifelong Whatcom County resident Albert Edward English, 91, formerly of 1224 Lakeview St., died Wednesday (June 5, 1991) at Sehome Convalescent Center, where he had lived for the past three years. At his request there will be no services. Burial was in Enterprise Cemetery. He was born Oct. 18, 1899, in Blaine to Ben and Mary English. Mr. English went to Lincoln Elementary School. He married Bessie Snyder in 1923 in Mount Vernon. Mr. English worked for Bloedel-Donovan Sawmill until it closed, and later worked for Brooks Lumber Co. until he retired in the 1970s. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed gardening. His wife, Bessie, died in 1984. Survivors include his daughters, Dorothy Clayton of Bellingham; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

ENGLISH, Bessie G., 84, 1224 Lakeview Ave., died Sunday (Nov. 25, 1984) in a local convalescent center. Born Sept 30, 1900 [not 1910] in Ohio, she had lived in the Bellingham area most of her live. She had worked in canneries. She is survived by her husband, Albert E.; a daughter; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. There will be cremation, with interment later in Enterprise Cemetery.

ENGLISH, Frank L., age 73, 1170 Sunset Ave. Bellingham, passed away at home on April 30, 1992. He was born Oct. 28, 1918 in Bellingham to Frank and Delcia (Hockett) English and was a lifetime Whatcom County resident. He married Joy in Twisp, WA in Oct. 1960. Mr. English was a member of Ferndale Senior Citizens and No. Bellingham Grange. Survivors include wife Joy of the family home, a daughter Susan and husband Rusty McLen of Abilene, TX; 3 grandchildren Frank, Grace and David McLen. A Memorial Celebration will be Tuesday, May 5, 1:30 p.m. at Unity Church with Rev. Janet Simpson officiating. Arrangements and cremation by Moles Funeral Home.

ENGLISH, Frank R., age 91 of 5280 Northwest Rd., Bellingham, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 1984. Mr. English had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1973 and had previously lived in Island County for 25 years. He was a World War I Army veteran who had served in France and is survived by 1 son, Frank English of Ferndale; several friends, Wayne and his wife Minnie Dexter of Langley, Stanley Dexter of Everson, Arnold and his wife Velma Engstrom of Clinton, WA, Vic Mills of Grand Coulee, WA. Graveside services will be conducted by Otto Zilstra Wednesday, April 4, 1:00 p.m. in Saxon Cemetery. Burial under the direction of Moles Funeral Home.

ENGLISH, Lissa Marie, age 23, of Toronto, Canada, and a 1983 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School died Dec. 10, 1988, in Vancouver, B.C. She was born Feb. 5, 1965 in Chilliwack, B.C. She is survived by her parents Norma Kirchan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ronald English of Toronto; one sister, Jody English of Seattle; two brothers, David English of Toronto and Jeremy Gobbate of Sumas; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William English of Toronto; and numerous other relatives. A chapel service will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home in Abbotsford, B.C. today, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m. A graveside service at St. Peter's Cemetery following cremation will be on Dec. 15 at 3 p.m.

ENGLISH, Llewellyn "Lew" age 73, of 1292 Roy Rd. passed away Tues., June 10th, (1986) at home. He was born Jan. 16, 1913 in B'ham & was a lifetime resident. He was a foreman for the City of B'ham Water Dept. & had worked as a jeweler for DePaul's Jewelry store for the last 6 years. He is survived by his wife, Elsie of the family home; 1 daughter, Katthleen English of Seattle; 1 sister, Enid Christensen of Calif.; 2 nephews, Bruce & Neale Christensen of Calif. ENGLISH, Marshall Reece - Former Bellingham resident Marshall Reece English, 83, died Monday, March 16, 1992, on Fox Island where he made his home the past nine years. He was born July 12, 1908, in Hoxie, Kan., to Frank and Louella English. He received his education in Kansas. In 1933 he married Juanita Miner. She survives him at the family home. He came to Whatcom County in 1938 and lived in Bellingham until 1964. Mr. English was retired from The Greyhound Co. after a 27-year career. Other survivors include his sons Miner English of Mountlake Terrace, Don English of Fox Island, and Robert English of Auburn; sisters Miriam Blum of Kansas and Vida Cole of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. At his request, there were no services. Arrangements were by Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.

ENGLISH, Sara Alice, age 65, of 269 Thirty-third Street, passed away at her home Wednesday evening, April 5, (1950) following a brief illness. Mrs. English had been a resident of Bellingham all her life and was a charter member of the Everson Rebekah Lodge. Surviving relatives include her husband, Albert A. English; a son, Llewellyn, of Bellingham; a daughter, Mrs. Enid E. Christiansen, of Valejo, Calif.; a brother, Edward Breckenridge, of Nooksack, and three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. within the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home with the Rev. James Martyn Wilson officiating. Interment in Nooksack Cemetery.

ENGLISH, William Herman, 76, of Medford, Oregon, died April 25, 1989. During the war, he worked for Washington Iron Works. Following the war he opened his own gun shop in Seattle; in 1951 he went to work for Frederick & Nelson in Seattle as their custom gunsmith & custom rifle builder. He retired after 25 years from Frederick & Nelson in 1986. In the summer of 1988, he moved to Medford, Oregon. He was a life member of NRA. He leaves to survive his wife Sarah May English of Medford, OR; 1 son, Raymond H. English of Deerfield Beach, Florida; 2 daughters, Barbara E. Merrifield of Bellingham and Suzanne E. Larson of Seattle; 4 grandchildren, Robin Finkbonner of Bellingham, Dian Lahtonen of Seattle, Michael E. Simon of Seattle & Jennifer Larson of Seattle; 2 great-grandchildren, Marche Finkbonner & Randall Finkbonner both of Bellingham. Memorial service Sat. ENGLUND, Johan, age 70 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Gerda Englund, passed away at the family residence, 1609 Humboldt Street, Monday, January 7,(1946) after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Englund had been a resident of Bellingham for the past thirty-eight years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Sweden, the Order of Vasa and the F.O.E. No. 31. Surviving relatives include, beside the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Hedvig Flanders, Tacoma, Wash.; one son, J. Alvar Englund, Los Angeles; two grandchildren; also two brothers in Sweden. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, Thursday, January 10, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. James Martyn Wilson. Interment Bay View Cemetery.

ENGMAN, Myron C. (Mike), age 41 of 475 Barns Rd., Bellingham passed away March 27, 1989. He was born in Bellingham Sept. 15, 1947 & has been a lifetime resident. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, graduated from B'ham High School in 1964, sang in the church choir for 20 years & enjoyed camping. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl & daughter Andrea of the family home; parents, Myron & Sally Engman Sr.; brother, Sterloy Engman; sister Barbara Engman & grandmother Barbara Bakke, all of Bellingham. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wed., March 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Donald Schatz officiating, followed by burial at Bayview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tues., from 12 noon until 7 p.m. & Wed. from 9-11 a.m. Under the direction of Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel & Crematorium.

ENGNES, Anna S., age 66 of Rt. 1, Blaine passed away in a local hospital Sunday, September 30, (1956) following a brief illness. She had been a resident of the White Horn Community the past 47 years. She is survived by husband, Martin; 4 daughters, Mrs. Mabel Torget of Seattle, Mrs. Anna Reese of Rt. 1, Blaine, Mrs. Selma Stolz of Mt. Lake Terrace, Mrs. Alice Shaffer of Rt. 1, Blaine, one son, Melvin Engnes of Everett, one brother, Oscar Rustand of Rt. 2, Blaine; 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3 in the Monroe Funeral Chapel with Rev. E. T. Dreyer officiating. Final resting place Greenacres.

ENGNES, Olaf Martin, 79, of 144 N. Shore Drive, passed away Friday, March 3, (1967). A resident of Whatcom County the past 58 years he is survived by his wife Marie; four daughters, Mrs. Arnold Torget of Seattle, Mrs. Glenn Reese of Blaine, Mrs. Fred Stoltz of Auburn, and Mrs. Jack Shaffer of West Richland; 1 son, Melvin of Everett, 2 stepdaughters, 2 stepsons, 2 sisters in Sweden, 1 brother, Axel in Iowa, 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. in Moles Funeral Chapel, Rev. Richard Snipstead officiating. Final resting place Greenacres.

ENGSTLER, John David - Ferndale resident John David Engstler died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1993, at his home. He was 48. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ is King Church, 117th Dayton Ave., Seattle. He was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Seattle to Carl and Bertha Engstler. A resident of Whatcom County the past two years, Mr. Engstler worked as an insurance adjuster. Survivors include daughter Tonya Schooler of Pennsylvania; his parents of Seattle; and sister Cynthia Green of Seattle. Arrangements by Westford Funeral Home.
