SAAL, Harvey Warren, age 56, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 in Tumwater, WA. He was born October 1, 1941 to Beatrice and Edward Saal in Rhinelander, WI. Mr. Saal served in the U. S. Army Special Forces from 1964 until 1984. He married Colleen Ann Shriver March 25, 1994 in Waukegan. Survived by his wife Colleen Ann Saal of Tumwater, WA; daughters, Robin Lou Trenier of Milwaukee, WI, Jamie Beth Van Eaton of Pullman, WA, Jenny Ann Duncan of Tacoma, WA; step-daughters, Bethany Ann Aldrich of Bellingham, WA, Sheena Nicole Johnson of Tumwater, WA, Jenaya Dominique Johnson, Tumwater, WA; stepson, Jared Adam Johnson of Tumwater, WA; mother Beatrice Jean Saal of Hales Corner, WI; brother Ronnie Saal, Union Grove, WI; 8 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. SAAR, Anna J., of 2400 Samish Road passed away Tuesday, April 11, (1967). Mrs. Saar had been a resident for the past 38 years and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She is survived by 1 brother Steve Marangos, 1 sister Mary Gogoras, both of Vancouver, B.C. Services will be held Monday, April 17, at, 1 p.m. within the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Father Ananiathes officiating. Interment Bay View.

SAAR, Cecil O., age 85 passed away Thurs., April 23, 1987 at her residence, 1764-B Front St., Lynden. She is survived by: daughters, Bonnie & husband Irby Jones of Lynnwood; Nina & husband Lee Eckhardt of Everson; son, Victor & wife Mary Solum of Seattle; brother, Victor & wife Mary Solum of Seattle; brother, Victor & wife Esther Galligan of Moses Lake; sister, Evelyn & husband Joe Christy of Everson; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild; nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Frederick in 1966 & daughter Donna Hustad in 1978. She is a Gold Star American Legion Auxiliary member & a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary. A lifetime resident of WA State, Lynden & Nooksack area since 1936. She is the oldest active American shuffleboard player in the Whatcom Co. League. SAAR, Fred, age 61, of Everson, passed away suddenly in a Bellingham hospital Saturday, Dec. 24th, (1966). He was a lifetime resident of the Sumas-Everson area and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 212 of Sumas. Mr. Saar is survived by his wife, Cecil, one step-son, Victor Solum of Sedro Woolley; three step-daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Brown of Everson; Mrs. Donna Vollrath of Nooksack and Mrs. Nina Craft of Everson; one brother, Harry of Chilliwack, B.C., and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bishop of Sumas; Mrs. Minnie Potter of Rapid City, S.D., and Mrs. Mildred Slater of White Rock, B.C. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 29th, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Advent Church in Sumas with Rev. Earl Crouse officiating. SAAR, Lloyd, age 46, of Sumas, passed away at North Bend, Ore., Saturday, April 24, (1954) following a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Allen, of Sumas Rt. 1; one daughter, Mrs. Joanne Symonds of Anacortes; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Bishop of Sumas, Mrs. Mildred Slater of Semiahoo, B.C., Mrs. Minnie Potter of Rapid City, South Dakota, Mrs. Myra Bean of Twisp, Wash.; two brothers, Harry of Sardis, B.C., Fred of Nooksack; one granddaughter, Christine. SAAR, Nola Fay - Services for former Yakima resident and store manager Nola Fay Saar, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Terrace Heights Chapel in Yakima with the Rev. Ken Roberts and the Rev. Doyle Hardy officiating. Burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Mrs. Saar, of Fairhaven Alterna-Care, 2600 Old Fairhaven Parkway, died Saturday (July 6, 1991) night. She was born Nola Fay Osborn on Dec. 10, 1909, in Amity, Mo., to William "Dick" Alexander and Lydia Francis Kephart Osborn. Mrs. Saar grew up in Wapato, graduated from Wapato High School as valedictorian of the class of 1928, and was named Miss Wapato. She married Bion "Dutch" Saar, former owner of Central Heating and Plumbing in Yakima on Dec. 24, 1933. She worked for many years as manager of June's Apparel in Yakima. A member of the Englewood Christian Church of Yakima, she also belonged to the Women's Century club. Mr. Saar died in 1982. In 1987, Mrs. Saar moved to Bellingham to be closer to her daughter, Leann Swanson of Bellingham, who survives her. Other survivors include her brother, Jess Osborn of Yakima, and three grandsons, all of Bellingham. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

SAAR, Ollie, age 50, of Sumas, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, February 9, (1950) following a lingering illness. Surviving relatives include her husband, Fred; her mother, Mrs. Margaret Bromley, of Sumas; nine sisters, Mrs. Enda Nash and Mrs. Virginia Blackburn, both of Pendleton, Ore., Mrs. Em Roberts, of Sumas, Mrs. Nell Rockey, of Lynden, Mrs. Maye McGuire and Miss Ethel Bromley, both of California, Mrs. Mary Moskeland, of Marysville, Mrs. Violet Crandall, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Viola Crane, of Ferndale; five brothers, Joe, George and James, all of Sumas and William of Sunnyside, and Jack, of Granite Falls. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. within the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas with the Rev. McKnight officiating. Interment in the Sumas Cemetery.

SABIN, Margurette A. "Peggy" of 1308 Birchwood Ave., No. 214, died Saturday, July 17, 1993, at home. She was 67. At her request, no services will be held. Born Dec. 14, 1925, in Oregon, she worked as a green chain mill worker in the lumber industry. A Bellingham resident since 1990, Mrs. Sabin was associated with the Jehovah's Witnesses North Congregation in Bellingham. She was preceded in death by a sister, her father and a granddaughter. Survivors include sons Lawrence R. Sabin of Grants Pass, Ore., and William James Sabin of Salem, Ore.; daughters Mary L. Sabin and Jessie L. Sabin, both of Crescent, Ore., Patricia B. Sanborn and Penelope M. Sabin, both of Bellingham, Theresa Lynn Sabin-Petrie of Creswell, Ore., and Elizabeth Rose Sabin of Cave Junction, Ore.; a brother William James of Vale, Ore.; nieces Connie Marie Frum of Coos Bay, Ore., and Ruby Wedel of Bend, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

SABIN, Merle M., age 54, of 1611 King St., passed away Sunday, June 3, 1979. Mrs. Sabin had been a life resident of Bellingham and leaves to survive 3 daughters, Jacqueline Marie Reed of Deming, Serena K. Alaniz of City and Sanda (sic) Kay Jones of Phoenix; 2 sons, David L. Sabin of City and Paul E. Vickery of Batesville, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Charles Richardson of Elma, Wash., Paul R. and Raymond Richardson, both of this City; 1 sister, Mrs. Mary Jo Biddle of City; numerous nieces and nephews. SABIN, Nick, age 63 years, of Acme, Washington, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, March 5, (1952) following a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, Susan Sabin; two sons, Leonard Lee Waite, of Maryland, and Luther Sabin, of Bellingham; and one daughter, Rhoda Wallin, of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 8th, at 2 p.m., within the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. Eugene Sabine (sic) officiating. SABIN, Priscilla Susan - A memorial service for Priscilla Susan Sabin will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Gibbs officiating. Ms. Sabin, former executive director of the Bellingham/Whatcom County Convention & Visitors Bureau, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 1994, of cancer. She was 47. Born May 1, 1946, to Richard and Jackie White in Bellingham, she spent most of her youth in Olympia, graduating from Olympia High School in 1964. She attended Western Washington University and graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in art history. Ms. Sabin held a variety of positions in the communications field with the state of Washington, the private sector and the University of Washington. She was conference center director at Western for five years and became director of the Convention Visitors Bureau as Whatcom County was gearing up for Expo '86 in Vancouver, B.C. Among several distinctions, she was instrumental in bringing the Alaska state ferry to Bellingham and major airlines to Bellingham International Airport. Ms. Sabin, who lived at 779 N. Lake Samish Drive, married Al Needler in 1983. She was voted Whatcom County Business Woman of the Year in 1989. Survivors include her husband of the family home; son Cisco Sabin of Hawaii; her parents of Bellingham; brothers Geoff White of Kent and Jacques White of Easton, Md.; aunts and uncles John and Marion Griffith of Bellingham and Ted and Nancy Rogers of Richmond Beach; four nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

SABIN, Susan Daisy, age 88 of Tacoma, formerly of Bellingham, passed away Monday, April 4, 1983. She was born January 13, 1895 [in WI]. She leaves to survive 1 son, Leonard L. Waite; a daughter Rhoda Kennedy of Spanaway. Her husband preceded her in death in 1951. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Bay View Cemetery. SABOLISH, Michael Paul, age 22, passed away in Vancouver, Wa., Saturday Feb. 26, (1977). Michael was born March 30, 1954 in Vancouver, he was preceded in death by his father, George Sabolish. He is survived by his brothers, Marvin and Brent of Vancouver, Wa.; a brother James; 2 sisters, Twila and LeeAnn Sabolish; mother, Dorothy and step-father Joe Irvine; all of Pablo, Montana, Box 297; also a grandmother, Mary Ellen (Olson) DeGrasse. Funeral services are pending. Burial will be in Whatcom County. The family grew up in Bellingham and attended school here.

SACKETT, Donovan D., age 67 of 2206 Jefferson St., died Sun. March 8, 1981. SACKETT, Howard E., passed away May 15, (1983) at the age of 73, he resided at 6028 Siper Road, Everson. He is survived by 2 daughters, Virginia Ower of Springfield, Oregon, Frances Hewes of Corvalis, Oregon; 2 brothers, Reverend Herbert Sackett of Hermiston, Oregon and Hiram Sackett of Clallam Bay, Washington; 4 sisters, Grace Parkhurst of Seattle, Ethel Wikstrom of Montesano, Washington, Olive Martin of Florence, Oregon, Gladys Ott of Vacaville, California and 7 grandchildren. SACKMAN, Walter O., age 65. A Sedro Woolley resident, died Wed. (Feb. 22, 1978) at the United General Hospital. Born Oct. 6, 1912 at Lind, Wash. Moved to Sedro Woolley with his parents in 1921. His marriage to Mary Woodruff took place in Sedro Woolley in 1935. Mr. Sackman was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian church, Mt. Vernon Elks & the Carpenter's Union. Survivors include: his wife, Mary; 1 son, Gary of Cushing, Oklahoma; a daughter, Sandy Jenkins, Panama City, Florida; 3 brothers, Henry of Sedro Woolley, Ernest, Mt. Vernon & LeRoy of Burlington; 2 sisters, Tillie Rowell, Sedro Woolley & Violet VanBoleum of Fairfield, Montana; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. SACKSTEDER, Germaine Henriette - Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Columbia Valley for Germaine H. (Eble) Sacksteder. The Rev. Barrett Corrigan will officiate. The resident of 231 Cleveland St. in Sumas died April 15, (1983) in Sumas. She was born in Paris in 1900. She was a member of World War I Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1477, Golden Age of Lynnwood, Senior Citizens of Sumas and St. Anne's Catholic Church. She is survived by daughters Lois Marion and Jacqueline Adams of Sumas, a son (Richard) living in Seattle, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. [She met Perry O. Sacksteder in Paris on Armistice Day, 1918. She came to America in 1920 and married Mr. Sacksteder on Dec. 30, 1920. They made their home in Seattle in 1929. Mr. Sacksteder died in 1980 at which time Mrs. Sacksteder moved to Sumas to live with her daughter, Jacki Adams.]

SADLER, Don - Graveside services for Mount Vernon resident Don Sadler, 57, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park with Rex Watt officiating. Mr. Sadler of 1808 A West View Road, Mount Vernon, died Wednesday at Skagit Valley Hospital and Health Center in Mount Vernon. He was born on March 24, 1933, in Mill Creek, Okla., and was a graduate of Burlington High School and Western Washington University. He lived in Whatcom County for 20 years. For eight years he was under-sheriff and for 12 years was a deputy sheriff. He retired in 1980 and went to Alaska to work on the Alaskan pipeline for 10 years. He married Alice Forslund in 1954 in Seattle. She survives at the family home. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War, belonged to the Footprinters Association, and was a member of Elks Lodge No. 194, Whatcom Masonic Lodge No. 151, and Teamster Local No. 231. He was instrumental in bringing the Footprinters Club to Whatcom County. Survivors include son Dan Sadler of California and daughters Candis Sadler of Aberdeen and Kim Sadler of Seattle. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home.

SADLER, Frank Joseph, 84, of 1202 E. Victor St., died Saturday (Aug. 25, 1990) in Bellingham. He was born on Feb. 4, 1906, in Frontenac, Kansas. Mr. Sadler moved to Bellingham in 1919, and graduated from Whatcom High School in 1932, well after entering careers as a professional golfer and boxer. He was a professional light-weight boxer, fighting 86 bouts between ages 17 and 24. He lost only 19 decisions and was never knocked out. Mr. Sadler began caddying at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club as a teenager and became assistant pro in 1929. He became head pro seven years later and held the position until retiring in 1971. In 1957, he was the Pacific Northwest Senior Professional Golf Association champion. He shares the record, 64 strokes, at the Bellingham Country Club. After his golf career, Mr. Sadler attended Western Washington University. He attended college for more than decade, studying mostly history and psychology. He married his wife Pearl M. in 1933. Survivors in addition to his wife include: sons Jack of Bellevue and Paul of Bellingham; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Egan Repoz, of Seattle. Graveside services were held Monday at Bayview Cemetery, with the Rev. William G. Berney, of Garden Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home.

SAFSTEN, Oscar Johannes - Funeral services for Oscar Johannes Safsten, 91, of Highlands Convalescent Center, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ferndale Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Safsten died Friday (March 29, 1991) at home. He was born May 13, 1899, near Umea, Sweden, and moved to Bellingham in 1923. He worked in local logging camps and sawmills. Mr. Safsten married Whatcom County resident Ragnhilde Linnea Linde on Dec. 31, 1925 in Bellingham. He worked for the Ford Motor Company before opening his own automobile repair shop in 1929. He farmed near Birch Bay and was a journeyman carpenter, master mechanic, cement worker and electrician. He was a longtime member of the Carpenter's Union and the Bellingham second ward of the Mormon Church. Mr. Safsten enjoyed his family and reading about history and government. His formal education ended after fourth grade in Sweden. In 1990, Bellingham High School officials awarded Mr. Safsten an honorary high school diploma for life experiences. Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Audrey Hansen of Salem, Ore.; three sons, Robert Gary Safsten of Bellingham, Curtis Oscar Safsten of Redwood City, Calif., Ronald Duane Safstern of Laie, Hawaii; 32 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

SAFSTEN, Ranghild Linnea Linde, a published song writer, 83, died Tuesday (Aug. 11, 1987) in a local hospital. Mrs. Safsten, 83, of 2300 Yew St. Road, was born Oct. 13, 1903, in Sweden, but lived in the Pleasant Valley area of Whatcom County since 1908. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ferndale Second Ward, where she was president for many years of the Ward Relief Society and served in numerous other church callings. She also assisted the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Society. Mrs. Safsten was well-known in her community for her traditional Scandinavian cooking, creative arts, crafts and homemaking. Survivors include her husband, Oscar J. Safsten; a daughter, Audrey E. Hansen of Hawaii; three sons, Robert G. Safsten of Bellingham, Curtis O. Safsten of California, and Ronald D. Safsten of Hawaii; a sister Cemoria Frankman of Seattle; three brothers, O. Ragnar Linde and Ritz Linde, both of Seattle, and Alfred Linde of Ferndale; 32 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the church relief society room of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ferndale Second Ward. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Bishop Merlon Alcorn officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Enterprise Cemetery. SAGE, Marie K., age 86, Rt. 2, Lynden, passed away in a local hospital Friday, August 5, (1966). She had been a resident of the Lynden area since 1922. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. W. H. Brooks of Everson and Mrs. Frank Ondeck of Lynden. One brother, William Bender of Ferndale. Eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial to follow in the Lakeside Cemetery.

SAGE, Solomon, age 87, of Rt. 3, Lynden, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Aug. 2, (1961) following a brief illness. Mr. Sage had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1923 and for the past 12 years had made his home at Rt. 3, Lynden. Surviving are his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. Nina Brokos of Rt. 2, Everson and Mrs. Verna Ondeck of Rt. 3, Lynden. Also eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, Friday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Carl Muhr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery.

SAGEN, Lars, age 66, of Route 1, Blaine passed away in a local hospital Sunday, November 20, (1966). A retired fisherman, he made his home in Blaine for the past 18 years. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the McKinney Funeral Home, Wednesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Philip Ramstad officiating. SAGER, Clarence C., age 66 years, of Rt. 3, Ferndale, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 3rd. He was a resident of Ferndale for the past 8 years and was a member of the Plasterers Union of Bellingham. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude and one daughter, Darlene at home; 6 brothers, Elmer, Artie, Vernie and Jasper all in Missouri, Irvin in Iowa and Willard in Ferndale; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Talmadge in Nebraska and Mrs. Marie Wilson in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Sager had been a resident of Ferndale since 1936 and was a member of the Bethany Baptist Fellowship and the WCTU. SAGMOEN, Arnie, age 64 of Seattle, passed away April 14, (1976) in that city, after a short illness. A former Bellingham resident, he had lived in Seattle the last 6 years. He was a retired commercial fisherman and maintenance man. He is survived by 1 son, Charles of Edinburg, Texas and 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Inga Vander Yacht of Lynden; 2 brothers, Elmer of Tofield, Alberta and Sigurd "Ole" of Dillingham, Alaska; 1 aunt, Mrs. Minnie Glewwe of Seattle; several cousins. No funeral was held at his request. Cremation was by the Yarrington Funeral Home of White Center.

SAGMOEN, Cynthia Bell, residing at 1334 Ellis St., passed away at the family residence on Friday, March 13, (1953) at the age of 84 years following a brief illness. Mrs. Sagmoen was a resident of Bellingham for the past 50 years and was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She is survived by two sons, Gilbert Barr, of Bellingham, and Earl Barr, of Oregon; also one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Johnson, of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; two sisters and one brother residing in Iowa; also three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00, in the Chapel of Bingham, Dahlquist and Jerns Funeral Home with Reverend Roy Burnett officiating. SAGMOEN, Peter E., age 72 years, of 1334 Ellis Street, passed away late Wednesday, August 4, (1948) following a lingering illness. Mr. Sagmoen had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 27 years and was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Sons of Norway; Bellingham Lodge, the Carpenter's Union, and the Shipwright's Union. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cynthia Bell Sagmoen, at home; four sons, Sigurd, of Dillingham, Alaska, Elmer, of Tofield, Alberta, Canada, Palmer, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Arne, city; one daughter, Mrs. George Vander Yacht, of Lynden; and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 9, at 1 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck funeral home with the Rev. Arvid L. Hokonson, pastor of the Ebenezer Lutheran Free Church officiating, followed by cremation.

SAHLIN, Sigrid, age 81, of 2315 Elizabeth St., passed away in a local hospital, Monday, Feb. 8, (1960). Mrs. Sahlin came to the Renton area with her husband, Julius, deceased in 1932, in 1902, moved to Anacortes where she resided for 18 years, and after a few years residence in Vancouver, Wash., moved to Bellingham where she had resided for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Broadway United Presbyterian Church and for many years had been active at The Firs' functions. Surviving relatives are one son, Carl V. of Bellingham; seven daughters, Mrs. L. M. Trammell, Mrs. Harry A. Koehler and Mrs. Edith Lowman, all of Bellingham, Mrs. R. A. Bissett of Tigard, Ore., Mrs. Palmer Clark of San Rafael, Calif., Mrs. Richard Hegre and Mrs. Lynn Manning, both of Seattle; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. Norman B. Harrison, Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

ST. CLAIR, Samuel L., age 76 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Addie St. Clair, 2520 Toledo Street, this city, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, April 10, (1946) following a lingering illness. Mr. St. Clair had been a resident of Bellingham for the past forty-four years and had worked as an employe (sic) of the Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Company fifteen years of that time. Surviving relatives include, besides the widow, one son, Harold, of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Vike and Mrs. Gladys Nichols, of Bellingham; one brother, William St. Clair, of Metal, Pa., and one niece, Mrs. Anna Frey, of Tacoma; also twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. ST. JAMES, George I., of 606 13th St., passed away Sat., Nov. 17, 1990 at his home after an extended illness. George served as a Lieutenant in World War II. ST. JOHN, Frances May, 70, died Tuesday, July 16, 1991 at home following an extended illness. She was born March 6, 1921 in Bellingham; daughter of Thomas and Hattie Bunch. Mrs. St. Jean (sic) attended Bellingham schools and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1939. On May 31, 1941 she married Ray D. St. Jean (sic) in Bellingham and he preceded her in death in 1989. Mr. & Mrs. St. Jean (sic) founded Skagit Valley Glass and paint in 1948 which she operated until ill health forced her retirement. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Old Main Association of Western Washington University. She is survived by 2 daughters and two sons-in-law; Jean and Micheal (sic) Grant of Cle Elum, Raylene and Micheal (sic) McMullen of Bellingham. Four grandchildren; Jennifer Lauridsen of Burlington, Micheal (sic), Paul and Erin McMullen of Bellingham, 2 great-grandchildren; Andrew and Pauline Lauridsen of Burlington. Two sisters-in-law, Mabel of Coos Bay, Oregon and Hilda Matthei of Seattle; one brother-in-law, Leon St. John of Bellingham and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Bunch. ST. JOHN, Leon F., age 89, of Bellingham, passed away Mon. Sept. 21, 1992 at Bellingham Care Center. He was born in St. Leon, Manitoba, Canada on Dec. 28, 1902 to Paul and Mary Adeline St. John. When he was young he moved by train from Winnipeg to the Vancouver area and in his early teens he migrated to the USA. He dud wood work all his life. At the Bloedel Sash and Door he did glazing. While there he worked on construction of the Assumption Church pews. He did custom cabinetry in Wenatchee, WA. Religion and values were very important to Leon. He saw duties clearly and once focused never wavered. In 1930 he married Irene Focht. They were married for 34 years. She passed away in 1964. In 1966 he married Ione Iversen and returned to making Bellingham their home. She passed away in 1981. Leon enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook and produced wonderful canned goods appreciated by all. He enjoyed visiting with people and treasured family and friends. He delighted family with details of family history. He was a long time member of the Assumption Parish and a member of the Elks. Mr. St. John was the fourth of nine sons and was the last survivor of his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thurs. Sept. 24, 1992 at the Church of the Assumption at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. ST. JOHN, Raymond Daniel, 74, of Mount Vernon died Sunday Sept. 24, 1989 at Skagit Valley Hospital. He was born November 16, 1914 in New Westminster, Canada, the 9th & youngest son of Paul & Mary St. John. He entered the U.S. at an early age and attended Bellingham schools. Ray worked as an electrician during the was years. Since 1948 his primary focus has been in the glass industry when he founded Skagit Valley Glass & Paint. He was a member of the Old Main Associates WWU, & the Immaculate Conception Church. He is survived by his wife Francis (sic) of Mt. Vernon; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Jean & Michael Grant of Cle Elum, & Raylene & Michael McMullen of Bellingham; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Lauridsen of Mt. Vernon, Michael, Paul & Erin McMullen of Bellingham; 1 great grandson, Andrew Lauridsen of Mt. Vernon; a brother Leon St. John of Bellingham & numerous nieces & nephews. ST. PIERRE, John Richard, Sr., age 58, passed away Thurs. Aug. 15, 1991 at Providence Medical Center due to heart complications. He was born May 26, 1933 in N. Adams, Mass. (to Ovilla & Ada). Came to Whatcom County in 1968. He was employed by Intalco Aluminum Corp. for past 23 years. He liked hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling. Was very out-going and enjoyed helping people. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Terry (Currier) whom he married in Bellingham on June 26, 1982 and by daughters, Darleen Holtrop of Custer, Bella Price of Blaine, Debbie Hiebert of Yakima and by a son John R. St. Pierre, Jr. of Texas; a step-daughter Brenda Janes of Marysville; stepsons Scott Bartok of Mt. ST. PIERRE, Kathleen (Cross) of Friday Harbor died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, in Bellingham. She was 60. Mrs. St. Pierre was born Aug 13, 1939 to Lloyd W. and Helen G. (Carroll) Cross in Buffalo, NY. On March 5, 1979, she married Arthur J. "Skip" St. Pierre on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. St. Pierre was director of personnel at Union Bank in California, where she was the first woman appointed to directorship of the bank's computer company's personnel department. She enjoyed gardening, reading, painting and her dogs. Survivors include her husband of the family home, and sister Karen Scherff of Ballard. Arrangements by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

Mrs. St. Pierre was a former resident of Bellingham and she leaves to survive her sister, Mrs. Mabel J. Parker of Bremerton; three nieces, Miss Margaret Strunk of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Edna Schrck (sic), Miss Litta Headley, both of Montana; also four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Rev. W. Carl Calhoun officiated at funeral services, Friday, Feb. 13, at 3 o'clock in the Chapel of Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home, followed by interment in Bay View Cemetery.

SAKSHAUG, Alfred, age 66, of Van Zandt, passed away at home Tuesday, June 24, (1958). Mr. Sakshaug formerly resided in Keyport for 20 years and had made his home in Van Zandt since September, 1957. He was a member of the Crystal Grange in Kitsap County and was a veteran of World War I. Survivors are his widow, Elizabeth, at home; three sons, D. R. Sakshaug, of Tacoma, James M., of Van Zandt and Robert A., of Saginaw, Mich.; seven grandchildren; father, Ivar, of Lynden; two brothers, Ingvald of Lynden and Thomas, of Flasher, N.D.; five sisters, Mrs. Edna Jacobson, of Mandan, N.D., Mrs. Inga Johnson, of Wolf Point, Mont., Mrs. Doris Taylor of Babb, Mont., Mrs. Cora Raymond, of Palm Springs, Calif., and Mrs. Alice Flint, of Riverside, Calif. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home, where rosary will be recited by the Rev. James Van Gogh, Thursday, June 26, at 8:30 p.m., followed by services Friday, June 27, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Bay View.

SAKSHAUG, Gertrude A. - Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude A. Sakshaug, age 85, 200 Grover St., Lynden, were conducted on Tuesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in Lynden Cemetery with Rev. David Hungerford officiating. Mrs. Sakshaug, who died in Bellingham on Sunday, July 6,(1986) was born in Mandan, North Dakota, on April 19, 1901, and had been a Lynden area residence (sic) since 1928. She was a member of the Northwood Grange and attended the Hope Lutheran Church. She was married to her husband, Ingvald, in Mandan on May 11, 1921; Mr. Sakshaug died in 1972. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Norma and husband Robert Dawes of Bellingham and Mrs. Wilma and husband William Murray of Clallam Bay, Wash.; a son, Roger and wife Barbara of Tacoma; eight grand- and 11 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Mr. Victor Wilson of Sedro Woolley; three sisters, Miss Alice Jacobson and Mrs. Ruth Marchant, both of Lynden, and Mrs. Alta Melarvie of Bismark, North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Wilson, in 1983 and a brother, Norman Jacobson, in 1984. Services were under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

SAKSHAUG, Iver, age 95, formerly of Route 3, Lynden, passed away in a local rest home Friday, September 18, (1964). A native of Norway, he had made his home in the Lynden area since 1928. Surviving are 2 sons, Ingvald of Lynden and Thomas of Flasher, North Dakota; 4 daughters, Mrs. Inga Johnson of Wolf Point, Montana; Mrs. Edna Jacobson of Mandan, North Dakota, Mrs. Cora Reyman of Palm Springs, Calif., and Mrs. Doris Taylor of Ketchikan, Alaska; 26 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden Thursday, September 24, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Carl Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynden Cemetery.

SALAS, Angelita C., age 65, 1331 Main St., Lynden, passed away at her home suddenly on Sat. Feb. 18, (1984). Born on April 13, 1918 in Mexico, Mrs. Salas moved to the Lynden area from Brownsville, Texas in 1953 and had attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden. She was married to her husband Victoriano in Texas on April 5, 1938. She is survived by her husband Victoriano; 2 sons, Juan & wife Peggy of Salem, Oregon and Jesus & wife Wanda of Oak Harbor; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine & husband Ron Pilon of Olympia; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Guadelupe Cruz in Mexico; 2 half-brothers, Ramon Cruz of Burlington and Reymundo Cruz in Mexico; 4 half-sisters, Mrs. Amada Esquivel, Mrs. Ofelia Sanchez, Mrs. Lydia Galvan & Mrs. Leonor Nevarez, all of Olmito, Texas. Funeral services were conducted on Tues. Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lynden with Father Patrick McDermott officiating. Burial followed in Greenacres Memorial Park. SALAS, Juan Cruz "Johnny" 54, of Aumsville, Ore. passed away July 11, 1993, in Salem, Ore. He was born March 8, 1939, in Elsa, Texas to Victor and Angelita Cruz Salas and moved to Whatcom County when he was 7. Mr. Salas graduated from Meridian High School and was a member of Laurel Baptist Church. He was married to Doris Radonski for 10 years they lived in Whatcom and Skagit counties and he worked at Northern State Hospital in Sedro Woolley. He moved to the Salem area in 1970 and married Peggy C. Folsom on July 22, 1978 in Salem. Mr. Salas worked as a plumber for Farrell Plumbing for many years. He was a musician for 35 years; a member of the Eagles in Salem and Keizer; and a member of the American Legion Post No. 10 in Albany, Ore. He is survived by his wife, Peggy C. Salas of Aumsville; three sons, John V. and Jesse S. Salas, both of Riverside, Calif. and Jefferey (sic) M. Salas of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; stepson, Christopher L. Folsom of Aumsville; two daughters, Tammy J. Maleng of Bellingham and Jennene A. Salas of Aumsville; father Victor G. Salas of Lynden; brother Jesus C. Salas of Oak Harbor; sister Josefina C. Pilon of Olympia; five grandchildren; two nieces and five nephews. A funeral service was held today at Laurel Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Buckingham officiating. Interment was at Greenacres Memorial Park with military honors by the Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. A service was also held in Salem. Greenacres funeral home handled arrangements.

SALAS, Roy, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joaquin Salas of Route No. 2, Lynden, passed away in a Seattle hospital Saturday, July 4, (1959). Surviving besides his parents are four brothers, Benny, Denny, Ricky and Joe; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clemente Fuentes in Ohio and paternal grandfather, Ponciano Salas in California. SALAZAR, Felipe De Jesus of Lynden will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gillies Funeral Home, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lynden. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Woody McAllister officiating. Burial will be in Lynden Cemetery. Mr. Salazar died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997. He was 81. Born Feb. 5, 1915, to Margarito and Juanita Martinez-Salazar in Mexico, he married Canuta Iybarra there on Feb. 4, 1951. After living in San Bonito, Texas, for several years, he moved to Whatcom County in 1962. Mr. Salazar worked for W. B. Camps, Marvin Enfield Farms and Curt Maberry Farms. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lynden. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife of the family home; son Joe Salazar of Bellingham; daughters Patty Garza and Annette Salazar, both of Lynden, Guadalupe Prieto of Deming, Gloria Rivas of Monroe, Linda Guitierrez of Seattle, Candy Garza of Moses Lake, Francis Lopez of Sunnyside and Josie Ceron of Oklahoma; 30 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

SALCEDO, Miguel "Michael" age 25, 918 Edson St., Apt. A, Lynden, died from injuries suffered in a traffic accident at East Badger and Northwood roads on Monday, Nov. 9, 1987. Born in Pajacuaran, Mexico, on May 18, 1962 Michael had been a Lynden area resident for about the past year and had been employed as an agricultural worker. His common-law, wife Lynda Harrison, and infant daughter, Rosa Maria Salcedo, also died in the accident. He is survived by his parents, Enrique and Rosa Salcedo-Maravilla in Mexico; three sisters, two in Mexico and one in California; and numerous other relatives. Services and burial will take place in Pajacuaran, Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

SALCEDO, Rosa Marie of 918 Edson St. in Lynden died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1987) in Children's Orthopedic Hospital as a result of injuries from an automobile accident Monday in Lynden. She was born June 30, 1987, in Bellingham. Survivors include her maternal grandparents, Jack and Tiny Harrison of Lynden; two brothers, Jack and Brandon Harrison of the family home; a sister, Kim of the family home; a great-grandmother; three uncles; one aunt and numerous other relatives. SALHUS, Robert Sidney (Bobby) passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Bellingham. He was 77, born on July 8, 1929 in Lake Alma, Saskatchewan, Canada to Obert and Vivian (Swanson) Salhus. He married Irene Gimbel on August 19, 1950 in Bismarck, ND. During their 56 years together they owned and operated several different businesses while raising their family. From Rapid City, SD they moved to Bellingham in 1972 when they purchased the Key Motel on Samish Way. Bobby was an active member of the Lutheran Church in North and South Dakota and Bellingham for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a member and officer of the WA State Motel Owners Assoc. Bobby enjoyed many things in life, but most rewarding for him were the Sunday gatherings at his home, when his children and grandchildren were all present. The most important things in his life were his wife and his family. Survivors include Irene, his wife, one daughter Marsha Tieri (Al), grandsons Ian (Melissa) and Landon; and three sons, Dennis Salhus (Sharon), grandsons Tye and Kipp (Melissa), great-grandson Cody; Lowel Salhus (Katie), grandsons Jeremy (Jamie) and Jesse (Michelle), great-grandson Ranson; and Kirby Salhus (Tina), grandchildren Clarissa, Erica and Stephen; sisters Delores Ripley, Mary Lou Wood, Joan Wagner; and brothers Raymond Salhus and Darryl Salhus along with many brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews. Bobby will be remembered by his family at a private memorial service at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale.

SALIN, Frank, age 67 years, of Route 5, Bellingham, passed away at a local hospital, Wednesday, August 4, (1948). Mr. Salin was for many years in the employ of the Great Northern Railroad and leaves no known relatives. Deceased was a member of the F. O. of Eagles No. 31. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harlan R. Stone and officers of the Eagles Lodge, Saturday, August 7, at 4 p.m. Cremation.

SALISBURY, Clara Emily, age 73 years, of 1461 Iron Street, passed away at a local hospital, Monday, April 9, (1945) following a short illness. Mrs. Salisbury had been a resident of this district for the past 17 years and leaves to survive, three sons, Earl and Joe, of Bellingham, and Frank in the U.S. Army in Texas; also four sisters in Iowa and seven grandchildren. The body rests at the Westford-Beck Funeral Home where private funeral services will be conducted from the Cathedral Chapel Monday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. SALISBURY, Roma, 70, a Whatcom County resident for 18 years, died Tuesday (Oct. 25, 1988) in a Bellingham hospital. Mrs. Salisbury, 1400 Moore St., Apt. A-2, was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Victoria, B.C. She was a member of the Children's Orthopedic Guild and the Marietta Grange. She was also a former worker at the Gooseberry Point Fire Hall. Survivors include her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Susan Phyllis MacKenzie of Langley, B.C.; and five grandchildren. Services are pending with Greenacres Westford Funeral Home.

SALLEMI, James Vincent, 81, a prominent Leonardo da Vinci scholar, died Friday (May 22, 1987) in Bellingham. Mr. Sallemi, who lived at 424 14th St., was born Aug. 1, 1905, in Italy and had been a Bellingham resident since 1971. Mr. Sallemi had received two merit awards from the Italian president, cabalier and commandetoro for contributions to scholarship regarding the study of Leonardo da Vinci. He maintained an extensive personal art collection. He is survived by a brother, John Sallemi of Hendersonville, N.C. Memory sharing will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home. The body was cremated.

SALMON, Donald M.,78, of Anacortes, died in Island Hospital Sun. Apr. 22, 1979. He was born in Buffalo, New York, Dec. 1, 1900. Mr. Salmon was trained as a wood pattern maker & certified to teach manual arts in the Buffalo Schools. He received A.B. degree from Bethany College, W. Virginia in 1927, B.D. degree from Yale University Divinity School in 1930. Attended University of Chicago & the Pacific School of Religion during summers. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree at Bethany College. Ordained in 1927 at the Richmond Ave. Christian Church in Buffalo. His full time pastorates between 1930 & 1959 were the Bellaire Christian Church, Bellaire, Ohio, The Christian Church, Eureka, Illinois and the First Christian Church, Seattle. From 1949 to 1959, Dr. Salmon was Executive Secretary of the Commission on Evangelism of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) with headquarters in Indianapolis. Since retiring in 1967 he has served the following churches as interim pastor: Central Christian, Everett, Community Christian, Vancouver, B.C., Creighton Christian, Phoenix, Ariz., Lake City Christian, Seattle, Findlay Street Christian, Seattle, First Christian, Roswell, New Mexico, First Congregational Christian, Yakima, First Christian, Bellingham, Wa. In 1976 the Bellingham Church honored Dr. Salmon by electing his (sic) their Minister Emeritus. He was married to Bertha (Betsy) Stark, Aug. 26, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan. Surviving, 3 daughters, Mrs. Douglas Burton, Anacortes, Mrs. R. L. Bhatia, Glenview, Illinois, Miss Joyce Salmon, Honolulu, his wife Bertha at home, 2 grandchildren. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Anacortes. Anacortes Memorial Services will be held during church services May 6, 1979 at 10 a.m.

SALMON, Henry P., age 78 of 2936 James St. passed away Monday, Sept. 6, (1976). A resident of Bellingham for the past 55 years he served with the U.S. Army during World War I and was a long time real estate salesman and was employed by Stark Realty. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the William Matthews Post No. 1585, VFW. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Leon Hasson of Seattle; a son, Edward of Newport, Oregon; 2 sisters, Eleanor Ramsey of Scottsdale, Arizona and Vera Sievert of Wascea, Minn.; also 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. SALMON, Matilda, age 71, a resident of Sumas for the past 23 years, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, (1961). She had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 30 years, was a member of Northwestern Chapter No. 104 O.E.S., Mary's Friendship Club O.E.S. and the W.S.C.S. of Sumas. Surviving is one niece, Mrs. Dwight Bauschke of Dearborn, Mich. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Davis officiating assisted by Northwestern Chapter No. 104 O.E.S. Burial will follow in the Sumas Cemetery.

SALMON, Samuel William, age 65 years, passed away Friday, December 28, (1945), following a short illness. He was a resident of Sumas for the past eight years and was recently retired from the U.S. Customs Service. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World of Seattle, the Knights of Pythias of Bellingham, and a member of the Bellingham Bay Lodge F. and A. M. No. 44 of Bellingham. He was also a veteran of the Spanish-American war. He is survived by his wife, Tillie; one sister, Mrs. Vern Brenner, of Toledo, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 3, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home at Sumas, with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sumas Cemetery, in charge of the Masonic Lodge.

SALMONSON, Arnie H., 78, of 1843 Main St., Apt B-3, Lynden, passed away March 26, 1991, at St. Joseph Hospital South Campus. He was born Jan. 12, 1913 in Sweden and moved to Ferndale in 1925. He married Juliana Van Diest in 1940 and resided in the Lynden area. Mr. Salmonson was a retired dairy farmer and retired Darigold employee. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 231 and also a member of First Reformed Church in Lynden. Mr. Salmonson is survived by his wife Juliana of the family home in Lynden; two sons, Courtney and wife Sharon Salmonson and Arnie and wife Elaine Salmonson of Lynden; three daughters, Juanita and husband Harold Hymas of Vancouver, Wash., Nola and husband Nick Weidkamp of Lynden and Sally and husband Chuck Bullion of Blaine. He also had 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held Friday at First Reformed Church in Lynden with burial following at Greenacres Memorial Park. Rev. David Hensley officiated. Arrangements were made by Greenacres Funeral Home.

SALMONSON, Eric, age 4 of 8685 Depot Rd., Lynden, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 22, (1970) at his home. SALO, Walter, of 211 1/2 E. Holly, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, August 22, (1954). Mr. Salo had resided in this community for the past 31 years, and was manager of the Commercial Hotel. Harold Salo of Seattle; four stepsons, George Durbin of Bellingham, Henry Wayne Garvin of Bellingham, Max Garvin of Pocatello, Idaho, and Cpl. David E. SALONEN, William L. "Bill" 73, of Bellingham died Monday (Jan. 16, 1989) in Bellingham. Mr. Salonen was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Buhl, Minn. He worked as a welder at Paccar in Seattle for many years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on Dec. 1, 1945. He was a member of the American Legion, attended Calvary Temple and was active at the Bellingham Senior Activity Center. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, of the family home; several nieces; and a nephew. The body will be cremated at (sic) the ashes placed at Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk, Minn. SALSBERY, Edith R. - A memorial service for Edith R. Salsbery, 79, a former Whatcom County resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ronald United Methodist Church in Seattle. She died July 25, (1991) in Spokane. Mrs. Salsbery was born Edith Hill on Oct. 14, 1911, in Richmond Beach. She married Willard Salsbery in Richmond Beach. He has died. The couple lived in Whatcom County for many years. Survivors include daughters, Dorothy K. Novell and Shirley J. Walker, both of Spokane; brothers, George Hill of Snohomish; a niece, Carolyn Teig of Bellingham; and nephew, Ed Hill of Mountlake Terrace. Arrangements are by Ball & Dodd Funeral Home of Spokane.

SALSBURY, Herbert Eugene, age 36, of Rt. No. 2, Everson, passed away in a local hospital Monday, Feb. 2, (1959) of injuries received in the quarry accident. He was born in Pennsylvania and a veteran of World War No. 2, serving in the United States Navy. He had been a resident of the Everson area the past 2 1/2 years, working as a quarryman for the Olympic Portland Cement Co. at their quarry near Kendall. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 212 of Sumas. He leaves to survive his wife, Elfie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Salsbury of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Kenneth and Richard in Pennsylvania and Harold serving in the U.S. Army; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Adams of Pennsylvania and Mrs. Josephine Walters of New York. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Thursday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., Rev. Earl Laman officiating. Military Graveside services will be conducted in the Sumas Cemetery by the Sumas Post No. 212, American Legion, Donald Hockett Commander.

SALSEINA, Myrtle C., age 75, a Sedro Woolley resident for the past 6 months died in a local nursing home, Sunday, May 25, 1980. She was born in Clinton, WA in 1904. She was a resident of the Lynnwood area for nearly 30 years. Her husband Martin preceded her in death in 1966. Mrs. Salseina is survived by 1 daughter, Patricia Hagerman, Lynnwood; 2 sons, Arthur Salseina, Lynnwood; Marvin (Frank) Salseina, Sedro Woolley, 2 brothers, Clarence Joyce, Alger; Percy Joyce of Edmonds. 2 sisters, Myra Gould, Haver, Montana, Lillian Halter, Paradise, Calif. 6 grand children, 4 great grandchildren. SALSTROM, Anna L., age 79, a resident of 3011 1/2 Alderwood Avenue, passed away in a local hospital Friday, January 21, (1949) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Salstrom is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ray Otley, Mrs. H. E. S. Key, and Mrs. Gust Benson, all of Bellingham, and Mrs. Edith Tamley, of Tacoma; two sons, Axel and Henry, both of Seattle; eighteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mrs. E. W. Salstrom, of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted in the Monroe Chapel, Ferndale, Monday, January 24 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Williams officiating. Interment in Enterprise Cemetery. Casketbearers will be six of Mrs. Salstrom's grandsons, Lloyd, Otley, Vance, Harold and Robert Key, Sidney Salstrom and Elroy Benson.

SALSTROM, Audrey J., age 73, of 1246 Roland St., Bellingham, passed away Saturday, November 30, 1991. Born October 22, 1918 in Conway, WA to Odney and Amanda Sinnes, she had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom and Skagit counties; member of Calvary Temple. SALSTROM, Erik W., age 84, of 1919 King Street, Bellingham, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, (1957) in a local hospital. He was a former resident of the Grandview district. Mr. Salstrom attended the Champion Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Erika; five daughters, Mrs. Wilma Johnston of Bellingham, Mrs. Agnes Pond, Mrs. Ellen Thayer and Mrs. Lillian Moore, all of Seattle, and Mrs. Irene Wood of Port Angeles; one son, Roy of Bellingham; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Erickson of Seattle; two brothers in Sweden; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Clifford Dickau Saturday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

SALSTROM, Roy B. - Services for Roy B. Salstrom, 80, of 1246 Roland St., will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Francis officiating. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Salstrom, a lifetime Whatcom County resident, died Saturday (Feb. 25, 1989) at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born April 10, 1908, in Preston. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local No. 276, and was a fishing and hunting enthusiast. He especially enjoyed clam digging and salmon fishing. Survivors include his wife Audrey of the family home; three sons, Jack, Jerry, and Stan Salstrom, all of Bellingham; two sisters, Irene Wood of Port Townsend and Lil Robinson of Woodinville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SALTER, Olive - Funeral services will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel 12:00 o'clock Thursday, October 30, 1997 for Olive Salter, age 85 who passed away on October 26, 1997. All are invited to join the family at the Aftermath Hall following the service. Olive was the last of six siblings, born March 21, 1912 to Jacob and Daghjort (Kjaernested) Vopnfjord in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The family moved to Blaine in 1935. Olive married Abram Bennie Salter September 26, 1936 in Blaine. In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Donald (Bonnie), their children Erik and Krista, great grandchildren McKenzie; daughter Beverley Collart (Gary) their son David (Carrie) and grandchildren Zachary & Devon, sister-in-law Sigrid Vopnford, all of Mt. Vernon; nieces & nephews & families Eileen Jonasson of Winnipeg, Olive Pybus and Leonard Vopnford (Karen) both of B.C., Lorraine Bjornsson (Henry) of Seattle, Linda Riley (Stephen) of Bellingham, David Vopnford (Barbara) Blair of Nebraska and an extended family of cousins of the Breidford family, mostly of Blaine. Very close friends since 14 years of age who visited often, Mary Steward of Calgary, Alma Adams of Montana & Michael Schmidt of Winnipeg, friend since the first grade. Olive retired from Puget Power in 1977 after 26 years followed by 8 years as Sec. Treas. of the company-wide retiree group. Ever proud of her heritage she visited a multitude of relatives in Iceland following retirement and in 1980 joined 200 relatives at a reunion in Manitoba on a farm purchased by the family in 1880 and still in their possession. Olive joined the American Contract Bridge Club in 1959, serving in many capacities including 25 years as Sec. Treas. and obtained her Life Master status in 1976 in Hawaii. Her competitiveness and enthusiasm for the game never wavered. She was an expert seamstress, loved to read, grow flowers and keep in touch with her many friends. SALTZ, Martha W., age 80 of 700 32nd St., passed away Sat. June 19, (1976). She had been a resident of this community for the past 36 years. Surviving son Hal W. Woolridge of Calif., 2 daughters, Mrs. Rosine Druzak of Wenatchee and Mrs. Melba M. Newton of Springfield, Missouri, 1 sister, Mrs. Grace I Reid of Wentworth, Missouri, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. SALTZGABER, Harry V., age 76, of 1446 Iron Street, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, December 4, (1952) following a short illness. Mr. Saltzgaber had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 47 years, having formerly resided in Lynden. He was a retired welder and a member of the M.W.A. His survivors include his wife Louise; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Gesper, of Seattle; a grandson, Curtis Thorington in the U.S. Navy; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Brown and a niece, Mrs. Myrtle Aase, both of Everson. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 8, at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment, Lynden Cemetery.

SALTZGABER, Louise, 94, died Wednesday, December 6, (1972). She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Club and a 68-year resident of Whatcom County. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Hugh Jesper, California; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Gahan and Mrs. Bertha Grenier, Bellingham, and Mrs. Agnes Hudziak and Mrs. Martha Bailey, Arizona; three brothers, Alfred Knittel, Bellingham, Otto Knittel, Stanwood and Ernest Knittel, Arizona; one grandson and four great-grandchildren.

SALUSKIN, Josephine Marie (Solomon) age 28 of Toppenish, WA, was killed in a car accident. She was formerly of Lummi. She is survived by her husband, Ron L. Saluskin; 4 children, Tanya Solomon; Shawntay Saluskin; Colby Lee Saluskin & Gabrielle Saluskin; parents, Norma & Charles Solomon of B'ham; 4 sisters, Linda DeCoteau; Jessie Felix; Patricia Solomon & Wilma Solomon, 4 brothers, Charles Solomon Jr.; Clifford Solomon; Thomas Solomon & Walter Solomon & numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Felix & Dora Solomon & her maternal grandparents Clifford & Bernice Celestine. Josephine was a member of the Lummi tribe of B'ham, WA. She resided in Toppenish for 10 yrs. She was learning the local arts, beadwork & costume making of the Yakima tribe. Her rosary service will be held April 23, at Colonial Funeral Home, Toppenish, WA at 7:00 p.m. Burial at the McCoy Cemetery, Thurs. April 24th at 10:00 a.m.

SALYARS, Leola - At her request, no services will be held for Leola Salyars, 91, of 1400 12th St. Mrs. Salyars, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, died Sunday (Sept. 25, 1988) in Bellingham. She was born June 2, 1897, in Latah, Wash. Survivors include a niece, Evelyn Burton of Bellingham; and two nephews, Charles Bowman of Kelso and Orin Bowman of Bellingham. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
