SAPP, Alma Fender, 70, of Sedro Woolley, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 1981) at her home. She was born May 3, 1910, in Seattle, and was a resident of the Skyou area near Sedro Woolley most of her life. She was a graduate of Sedro Woolley High School and Bellingham Normal School and retired after 40 years of teaching in the Sedro Woolley School District. She was a member and past president of the Sedro Woolley Education Association, a member of Washington and National education associations, and a charter member and past president of Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Her contributions to the school district are recognized by the Alma Sapp Athletic Award given annually to an outstanding female graduate. She was a life member of Central United Methodist Church and a 50-year member and past Noble Grand of Success Rebekah Lodge 74. She was active in the Skytopia Grange, Skyou 4-H, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and other senior activities. She was also a charter member and officer of Skagit County Historical Society. She is survived by a sister and two sons. Her husband Verne died in 1972. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, Sedro Woolley.

SAPP, Audrey Pearl - A private family service is planned for Audrey Pearl Sapp, infant daughter of Francisco Sapp and Kimberly Wilson of Ferndale. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p..m. Sunday at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. The child died suddenly at her home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993. She was born Sept. 26, 1993, in Seattle. She is survived by her parents of the family home; brother Dylan James Sapp; maternal grandmother Gayle M. Wilson of Ashland, Ore.; maternal grandfather David Shellabarger, also of Ashland; paternal grandparents James and Francisca Sapp of Ferndale; great-grandparents David and Pearl Heintz of Anaheim, Calif.; great-grandmother Inga Alathee of Spain; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. SAPP, Betty K. - A funeral for Betty K. Sapp of Redmond will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Rambo officiating. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Mrs. Sapp died Saturday, July 9, 1994, at her home, following a long illness. She was 75. Born Oct. 19, 1918, to William and Christa MacDonald Speirs in Bellingham, she married Floyd Sapp of Yakima in 1943. They lived in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1982. Survivors include daughter Cheri Envold of Redmond; sons Curtis Sapp of Olympia and Ross Summers of Seattle; sisters Hazel Smith and Dawn Everett, both of Bellingham; brother William Speirs of Bend, Ore.; and six granchildren.

SAPP, Esther A., 92, died Saturday (March 8, 1986) at Bellingham Care Center, 1200 Birchwood Ave. She was born June 10, 1893, in (Moscow) Idaho, and lived most of her life in Bellingham. Her husband, Quincy Lee Sapp, died in 1961. A daughter, Donna Cook and twin sister Vesta Benson also preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bayview Cemetery, with the Rev. Susan Briehl officiating.

SAPP, Kenneth Curtis, age 1 day, of 1000 Liberty Street passed away in a local hospital, Monday, May 20, (1946). Surviving relatives are the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Sapp, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William K. Speirs, of Bellingham, and Mr. an Mrs. Claude Sapp, of Seattle. Private services were conducted at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, Tuesday, May 21. Cremation followed.

SAPP, Quincey Lee, age 61 years, of 1107 Roland Street, passed away at a local hospital Friday, July 31,(1959) following an extended illness. Mr. Sapp had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 35 years and was an employee of Bellingham Sash and Door. He is survived by his wife, Esther, at the family home; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Lee Hudgins and two grandchildren, all of Bellingham; two brothers, George of Spokane and William of Bellingham; one sister, Mrs. Margaret McNary of Portland; also nieces, nephews and many other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 4, at 1:30 p.m. within the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin W. Moore, pastor of the Garden Street Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.

SARGENT, Carrie Anita, age 65, of 252 South Garden, passed away at her home Saturday, October 17, (1953). Mrs. Sargent had resided in this community for the past 7 years, and previously had lived in Seattle and St. Maries, Idaho. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Lambda Rho Orthopedic Guild, the Birchwood Garden Club, Bayside Garden Club, and was very active as an officer of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington. Surviving relatives include her husband, James B. Sargent at the family home; a son, E. B. Sargent of Bellvue, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. James H. O'Banion of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren: Leanne, Suzanne, Deborah and Stephen Sargent, all of Bellevue, and Patricia, Priscilla an James O'Banion, all of Vancouver; two brothers; W. B. Rauch of Pomeroy, Wash., and Jesse E. Rauch of Orinda, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. V. R. Kendall, of Salinas, Calif. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun, Wednesday, October 21, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.

SARGENT, Violet Eva - Graveside services for Violet Eva Sargent, 77, of 2228 James St. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in La Conner. The Rev. Armand Mason will officiate. Mrs. Sargent died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 1991) in Bellingham. She was born Violet Eva Kolb on Aug. 6, 1913, in Stanwood to Arthur and Maude Kolb. She had been a Bellingham resident for 51 years. She had worked as a maid at the Bellingham Leopold Hotel and the City Center Hotel. Mrs. Sargent enjoyed the outdoors and flower gardening. Her husband, Marvin Sargent, died in 1963. Survivors include a son, Larry Sargent of Bellingham; a daughter, Donna Moreau of Ferndale; a brother, Art Kolb of La Conner; sisters, Edith Robertson of Concrete and Nita Rickabough of Kansas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. SARICH, Fern Allinson, age 88, of Bellingham, passed away on December 11, 2005 in Bellingham. Fern was born as Vera Fern Allinson on November 12, 1917, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Neil A. and Susie (Baker) Allinson. She moved to Washington with her family as a young girl, first to Lake McMurray and then to Bellingham, where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Whatcom High School and Western Washington College of Education. Fern married John Sarich in 1940, and they shared their lives together for 61 years, until his passing in 2001. Together they ran their fishing business, raised their three sons, traveled, and spoiled their grandchildren. Fern taught at Whatcom Junior High School for many years, particularly in physical education. She was an early advocate of equal sports and activities for girls. She was physically active all her life in many sports including playing badminton on a championship level and playing racquetball into her 88th year. Family and friendships were the most important thing in her life, and she always treasured family gatherings and stressed the importance of relationships. Fern particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them while they were growing up as well as when they became adults and established their own families. Preceding Fern in death were her husband John; sisters, Reta Hubler and Neva Holmes; and brother Omar Allinson. Surviving Fern are her three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Gwen, Steven and Dee, and John and Dianna. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Allinson; and sister, Lola Wascisin. A memorial mass will be held Friday, Dec. 16, at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Bellingham, with a reception following.

SARICH, Michael (Mike), age 69, of 622 Eleventh Street, passed away at a local hospital Saturday evening, March 25, (1950) following a short illness. Mr. Sarich had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 32 years. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a retired employe of the City water dept. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Lucretia Sarich at home; two sons, John and Paul, both Bellingham; four grandchildren, Michael, Steve, Johnny and Paula Sarich, all of Bellingham; one brother and three sisters in Yugoslavia. Rosary was said Tuesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. within the Church of the Sacred Heart. Requiem high mass was sung Wednesday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. with the pastor Celebrant. Interment in Bay View Cemetery under the direction of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home.

SARICH, Paul P. of Bellingham died Friday, Sept. 23, 1994, at the Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. He was 77. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Morelli officiating. Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery. Born May 15, 1917 in Clear Lake, he married Mary Ann Gugich on April 18, 1942, in Anacortes. Mr. Sarich was a commercial fisher for many years and then worked for Bellingham Builders Concrete. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of Bellingham, daughter Paula Mohs of Lynnwood, brother John Sarich of Bellingham and two grandchildren. SARJEANT, Dorothy Case - Funeral service for Dorothy Case Sarjeant, age 81, of Seattle, will be Wed. March 23, 2 p.m. St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Ronald K. Reddell officiating. Interment Bayview Cemetery. Mrs. Sarjeant passed away Tues. March 15, 1988. A member of Oudesh Temple No. 35, Daughters of the Nile, Phoenix, Arizona; Queen Esther Chapter No. 23 OES, Phoenix, Arizona since 1951; married Oct. 5, 1925 in St. Paul's Church, Bellingham by Rev. SARJEANT, William Herbert - Funeral services for William Herbert Sarjeant, a former Bellingham resident, will be at 1 p.m. next Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. John W. Gibbs officiating. Mr. Sarjeant, 82, of Seattle died Monday (Nov. 21, 1988) in Seattle. He was born Jan. 20, 1906, in New York. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with a rank of lieutenant commander after serving more than 20 years. He was a member of many organizations, including the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1971; Blue Lodge No. 15; F&AM of Tempe, Ariz.; Nile Temple of Seattle; Scottish Rite Bodies; Elks Lodge 0353 of Port Angeles; Society of Automotive Engineers; and the American Society of Naval Engineers. Survivors include three brothers, Robert Sarjeant of Phoenix, Ariz., Harry Sarjeant of Paramount City, Calif., and Gerald Sarjeant of Sun City, Calif.; and two sisters, Florence Harned of Auburn, Calif., and Ethel Sarjeant of Paradise, Calif. Officers of the Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44 F&AM will assist in ritualistic services. Burial, with full military honors, at Bayview Cemetery will follow the funeral services. SARLAND/SARLUND, William A., age 73, of San Gabriel, Calif., passed away in that city Wednesday, Oct. 31, (1956). Mr. Sarland had resided in Bellingham for 35 years prior to his moving to San Gabriel four years ago. He was employed as a piledriver foreman for many years before his retirement. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Norman B. Harrison Thursday, November 8th at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place Bay View.

SARLUND, Georgia, age 69 years, of Route 5, Bellingham, passed away at her home Thursday, Feb. 12, (1953) following a short illness. Mrs. Sarlund had been a resident of this community for the past 20 years. She is survived by her husband, William A.; and a nephew, Robert J. Lee, of Alhambra, Calif. Services will be Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 2:30 p.m., within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home. Interment, Bay View.

SARTORI, Anna A., age 96, of 2411 West St., passed away Tues. Oct. 30, (1990) in a local nursing home. She was born (Sept. 15,) 1894 in Arsie, Italy; came to Bellingham in 1913. She had been a member of Assumption Church and Salvation Army and Mother Evangelista of St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed knitting & crocheting for numerous non-profit organizations and was also an avid flower gardener. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, G. N. Cavalli and A. B. Cavalli and leaves to survive 1 son Samuel Cavalli of Bellingham; 2 daughters, Mrs. Angela Parberry & Mrs. Edythe DePaul, both of Bellingham; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Bert Cescato of Treviso, Italy, and numerous other relatives. SARVIS, Ewart S., Dr., formerly of Sumas and Bellingham, died May 24, (1977) in a hospital at Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He was 86. Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m., Garden St. Methodist Church.

SASKEN, John M., age 62, of 5177 LaBounty Road, Bellingham, died Tuesday, March 19, 1991 in Bellingham. He was born Nov. 15, 1928 in Olean, NY an has lived in Ferndale since October 1954. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Ferndale an Albert J. Hamilton Post #7 American Legion of Bellingham. Mr. Sasken worked for the Mobil Oil Corp. as a pipe fitter and maintenance supervisor for 39 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He married Connie Crotzer on July 31, 1954 in Olean, NY. Survivors include wife Connie; three daughters: Kathy and husband Chris Ferry of Ferndale, Debby Sasken of Ferndale, Eileen an husband Wade Martin of Ferndale; three sons, Jim Sasken an wife Karla of Ferndale, Jerry Sasken and Kasi Donelon of Ferndale, Jay Sasken of Moulton, AL; nine grandchildren: Jacob, Justin, Danielle, Jennifer, Dustin, Kellan, John, Joey and P. J. (Phyllip); two sisters: Jjoan Brown of Byesville, OH, Connie Kriegel of McConnelsville, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. SASNETT, J. Randolph, Rev., age 87, of Santa Barbara, CA, passed away May 12, 1978. Rev. Sasnett was a former Methoist minister in this area, Director Wesley Foundation, Univ. of Wash.; Director Religious Education, U.S.C.; founder of The Religion in Education Foundation and was Executive Director of Educational Futures International at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Martena. A son, Randolph of Seattle. 4 daughters; Lenora Holland and Anna Ruth Heytvelt of Seattle, Evelyn Millspaugh of Iowa and Anita McCullough of B'ham. A twin sister, Annabelle Willett of Los Angeles. 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services private.

SASSE, Margaret, 83, of Blaine, was taken by death at a Bellingham hospital, Monday. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Marie Byron, of Blaine; three sons, A. W. Becker of St. Paul, Minn., Walter Becker of Burlington, and Edward Becker of Retsil, Wash. There are six grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Freda Kubolsky and three brothers also surviving. Brothers are Herman, Robert and Frank Ordoff, all of Buffalo, Minn. Services will be conducted Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. at the McKinney funeral home. Interment in the Haynie Cemetery.

SATHER, Maria, 69, of Sedro Woolley died August 30, 1992 in Bellingham. She was born in Italy in 1923, coming to the United States in 1947. She moved to Bellingham in 1948 where she lived until 1958 when she moved to Sedro Woolley. She married Thomas Sather in Italy in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was a patient at the Mt. Baker Kidney Dialysis Center in Bellingham. Survivors include: 2 daughters Karen Sather & Ingrid Bergstrom of Sedro Woolley; son Nels Sather, Idaho; a brother & sister in Italy and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the L.D.S. Church in Sedro Woolley on Thursday Sept. 3, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. Services under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley.

SATRUM, Elizabeth, age 96, who resided in Sedro Woolley, died at a local nursing home, Wed., Nov. 3, (1976). Born June 10, 1880 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, came to Florence, Snohomish County, Wa., in 1889. She was married to Severt Satrum in 1899. He was postmaster at Florence until his retirement in 1938. She became postmistress and served until 1949. Mr. Satrum passed away in 1947. In 1949 she came to Sedro Woolley to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Altar Society and a charter member of the Stanwood Historical Society. She leaves her daughter, Esther Romer of Sedro Woolley and 3 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Sat., Nov. 6 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Fri. Nov. 5 at the Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley. SATTERLEE, Arny L., age 81, of 4312 Northwest Rd. passed away Sunday August 21, (1977). A retired poultryman, Mr. Satterlee had been a resident of the community for the past 54 years & was a member of William Lee Alexander Post No. 3685 VFW at Laurel. Surviving are his wife, Lillian. 1 brother, Jack Satterlee of South Bend, Indiana. 1 sister, Mrs. Jessie Kraft of Turtle Lake, North Dakota. SATTERLEE, Lillian Wilhelmina, age 88, formerly of 4312 Northwest Rd., Bellingham, died Fri. Jan. 27,(1989) at St. Francis. Born April 15, 1900 in Iowa, she moved to Bellingham in 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband Arny in 1979. She is survived by 3 nieces, Grace Repanich of Bellingham, Avon Dickeson of Beaverton, OR, & Lois Anderson of Olympia as well as numerous friends. Services will be held Tues. SATTERLEE, Louise Lotta, age 72, of 1126 Roland Street, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, April 14, (1949). Mrs. Satterlee had resided in this community for the past 42 years and leaves to survive four cousins, Mrs. William Fletcher and Mrs. Alice Small, both of Tacoma; Ray Fletcher, of Tacoma, and Arthur Fill, of Vancouver, B.C.; one brother-in-law, Brandon Satterlee, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Katherine Beardsley, both of Seattle. Services were conducted from the Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home by the Rev. James M. Wilson, Saturday, April 16, at 4 p.m. Cremation.

SATTERTHWAITE, Hannah C., age 103, of East Wenatchee, a former Lynden resident, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 13, 1990, at Highline Convalescent Center in East Wenatchee. She was born to Nels P. and Minnie Otttesen Sorensen at Albert Lea, Minn., on Aug. 26, 1886. She was raised and attended school in Minnesota and then moved with her family to Whatcom County in 1907. She attended Bellingham Normal School and received her teacher's certificate, and later taught at Fairview School in Whatcom County. She married Joseph I. Satterthwaite at Vancouver, B.C., on March 30, 1912. The family moved to Lynden, where they lived and farmed for 60 years. Mrs. Satterthwaite moved to the Wenatchee area in 1985 to be near her daughter. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynden. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clair (Hazel) Boys of Wenatchee; a brother, Howard Sorensen of Des Moines, Wash.; a sister, Hazel Minor of Everett; two grandsons, Paul of Bellevue, and Bruce of New Orleans; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and five brothers. A service of commemoration will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in First Baptist Church of Lynden. The Rev. Hoyt Sherwin will officiate. Private interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale. Jones & Jones Funeral Home of Wenatchee is in charge of arrangements.

SAUCEDA, Ramiro, 14-day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Nemescio Sauceda, of Rt. 3, Lynden, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, July 14, (1959). Surviving besides his parents are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnulfo Sauceda of Lynden. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15, at 4 p.m. in the Lynden Cemetery with Father James Van Gogh Officiating. Arrangements by the Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

SAUER, infant - Graveside services were held Thursday for the infant child of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Sauer, 3106 Vallette, St., who passed away Wednesday (May 26, 1954). Burial was at Greenacres Memorial Park. In addition to the parents, the infant is survived by grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Phil Sturrock, Lynden, and Mrs. Annie Sauer, Bellingham. SAUER, Donna M., 59, 3106 Vallette Street, Bellingham, died Sunday, Sept. 6, (1987). She had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom County and was a member of the First Congregational Church and Foresters Mt. Baker Post No. 606. She is survived by her husband, John; one daughter, Eileen Rachinski and husband, Rodney, of Renton; one grandson; and an aunt and uncle Nellie and Milton Weidkamp of Lynden. Graveside services were Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Greenacres Memorial Park, followed by memorial services at the First Congregational Church in Bellingham with Rev. D. McClellan officiating. SAULS, Marie, age 70 of 4165 Saltsprings Dr., Ferndale, passed away at home Monday, November 7, 1983. Mrs. Sauls had been a resident of the Bellingham area for the past 10 years, was a member of The Whatcom County Counsel on Aging, The Bellingham Senior Center, and the Peace Arch Chapter of the American Business Women Assoc. SAULSBURY, Raymond E., 63, 2707 Grant St., died Thursday, (Aug. 14, 1975). A general contractor, he had lived in Bellingham for 29 years. SAULSBURY, Ruth, 71, a homemaker for many years, died Tuesday in Bellingham. Mrs. Saulsbury, of 2839 Orleans St., was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Tono, Wash. SAUNDERS, Aurelia Esther, age 78 years, passed away Thursday evening, January 3, (1946). SAUNDERS, Bertha, age 87, who resided at 2633 Lincoln St. passed away in a local nursing home Jan. 24, (1977). SAUNDERS, Edgar R., age 70 years, of 2633 Lincoln Street, passed away suddenly Monday, October 20th, (1952). Mr. Sunders and resided in Bellingham for many years and was employed by the Olympic Portland Cement Co. for 18 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. SAUNDERS, Petrea Ingibjorg of Seattle, formerly of Blaine, died May 8, (1972) at Blaine. She was born Sept. 18, 1905 in Hallson, N.D. She came to Blaine in 1911, went through grade school and high school in Blaine and graduated in the class of 1924. She married Thomas H. Saunders, Oct. 19, 1929 in Bellingham. Her husband preceded her in death in Sept. 1971. She is survived by two sons: Thomas H. Saunders Jr. of Rockford, Ill., and Peter M. Saunders of Seattle; seven grandchildren and a brother, Jon G. Johnson of Ferndale, now in Alaska. Also two sisters: Mrs. Sigrid Johnson of Concrete, and Mrs. Ninna Stevens of Blaine, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and was employed by Walton and Montford, Blaine and the J.C. Penny Co. of Seattle for many years. Her body has been sent to Seattle for Cremation. Memorial services were held Friday, May 11, at 2 p.m.

SAUVE, Virginia Zender (Ginger), 49, died March 19, in Palo Alto, California of acute leukemia. Ginger was born in Bellingham and graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1965. She attended Seattle University and earned a degree in Nursing in 1969. Although she worked as a nurse for over 20 years, Ginger received most of her fulfillment from music and reaching out to other people. She was an accomplished musician, performing both liturgical and contemporary music in the Seattle area. She touched numerous people in her life through her active volunteer work and her daily, cheerful interactions with everyone she encountered. She is survived by her husband, Steve Sauve of Palo Alto, California; a son, Bryan of Seattle; a daughter Kristen of Portland, Maine; her parents, Dick and Betty Zender of Deming; and two brothers, Dan Zender of Bellingham and Steve Zender of Chewelah, Washington. Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 15236 21st S.W., Burien, Washington, on Monday, March 24, 1997, at 11:00 a.m., and at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 6206 Mt. Baker Highway, in Kendall, on Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at 7 p.m.

SAVAGE, F. B., 2505 Utter Street, age 36 years, passed away suddenly at a local hospital Thursday evening, April 25, (1946). Mr. Savage had been a resident of this community for the past twelve years, and was a member of the First Congregational Church. He was affiliated with the Fairhaven Lodge No. 75, F. & A. M., Bellingham, the Ancient Order of United Workman of Washington, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 40. Also Local No. 650 of the International Brotherhood of Blacksmiths and Drop Forgers. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Savage; one daughter, Sandra Jayne and one son, Jack Benjamin of the home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Savage, of LaConner; one brother, William Savage and one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Thien, both of LaConner. SAVAGE, Freda Arbuckle, age 71, of Port Orchard, Wash., passed away Mon., July 16, 1979. She was raised in the Sunrise area east of Blaine and graduated from the former Custer High School. She attended WWSC in B'ham & taught school in the Sunrise area. SAVAGE, Helen B., 83, of 3116 Orleans, Bellingham, WA passed away at St. Joseph Hospital, South Campus on Monday August 17, 1992. She was born in Denver, Colorado (April 4, 1909) to Benjamin and Charlotte Huston. She married George Savage in Littleton, Colorado on Nov. 27, 1929. Mrs. Savage was a very good mother with a great sense of humor. She loved craft work, especially knitting, crocheting, making dolls, afghans and shawls. She also loved music, dancing, singing and especially her children. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Savage of Bellingham, WA, William Savage of Everson and David and wife Nancy Savage of Santa Clarita, CA; three daughters, Joanne and husband Charles Allen, Penelope Wharton, and Claudia Savage all of Bellingham, WA; two brothers, Howard Houston of Golden, Colorado, and Robert Houston of Houston, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. SAVAGE, Margaret - Visitation for Margaret Anable Savage of Bellingham will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today and Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Savage died at home Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997. She was 81. Born Jan. 21, 1916, in Grand Marie, Mich., she moved to Wheeler, Ore., in 1921 and to Washington in 1924. Mrs. Savage attended Assumption School and Bellingham High School. She married Clyde Anable in 1933. She worked in restaurants and enjoyed working in the woods as a fern picker. Mrs. Savage lived in Forks before returning to Bellingham in 1994. He hobbies included making dolls for her grandchildren, crocheting, growing roses, reading and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include daughters Linda Anable, Judy Capp and Mary Sandstrom, all of Bellingham, Claire Anable of Olympia, Gerry Thompson of Bellevue and Jane James and Clydine Anable, both of Forks; sister Edris Sanford; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

SAVAGE, Orville F., 74, of Bellingham died Friday (Jan. 4, 1991) in his home. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel. Mr. Savage was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Goodridge, Minn. He was a Bellingham resident for 20 years. He was a former hotel manager. He is survived by his mother, Nellie Savage Lyste of Dawson Creek, B.C.; four brothers, Kenneth Lyste and Chester Lyste of Bellingham, Roy Lyste and Arthur Lyste of Dawson Creek; four sisters, Ellen Israelson of White Rock, and Nettie Forseth, Mayme Bentrudec and Alma Gulackson of Alberta, Canada. SAVAGE, Ruth E., age 90, a lifetime resident of Bellingham, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. Mrs. Savage was born in Bellingham on October 1, 1906 to parents William and Matilda (Kramer) Mackie. From 1957 to 1982 she owned several hotels in Bellingham including The Rockwood, The San Juan, The Savoy, and the Helena. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed singing. Mrs. Savage was very active in the Senior Center where she sang with the Silver Bells. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and later attended Faith Lutheran Church and was a longtime member of D.O.F.A. Survivors include two sons, John Visser and his wife Maxine of Bellingham and Dwight Odmark of San Diego; and a daughter Jean (Odmark) Crutcher and her husband Ward Crutcher of Bellingham. The extended family includes 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mrs. Savage was preceded in death by her husband Orville Savage, and two sisters, Helen Hartley and Grace Bowne. Ruth had been previously married to Martin Visser, John Odmark and Ed Bakke. She is survived by her husband, Wallace, in the U.S. service in Italy; her father, Albert Greenfield, Everson, Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Donald Pomeroy, Everson, route 2; Phyllis and Coesta at the family home; four brothers, Cecil, Everson, Route 2; Albert at home; Sergeant Edwin and Private Laurel in the U.S. army. Funeral services will be conducted from the Gillies Funeral Chapel in Sumas, Tuesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Walmer, of Nooksack, officiating. Interment, Hopewell Cemetery.

SAVILLE, Ruth Jean, age 56 of Blaine, passed away November 19, 1997 at Stafholt Good Samaritan in Blaine. Mrs. Saville was born August 12, 1941 in New Jersey to Frank and Ruth (Paul) Snyder. She moved to Blaine 21 years ago and was a member of the Member of the Eagles, American Legion at Birch Bay and the Quarter Horse Assoc. She enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, and camping here in the Northwest. She is survived by her son, Nathan Saville, of Blaine; her mother, Ruth LaFond, of Arizona; her brother, Frank Snyder, of Seattle; and her sister, Gabrielle Noske, of Birch Bay. A Celebration of Life will be held 12 Noon Saturday, November 22, 1997, in the Jerns LeVeck McKinney Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don VandenBerg officiating. The arrangements and services are under the direction of The Jerns McKinney Funeral Chapel of Blaine.

SAVINGS, Bertha Muriel, age 77 of Blaine, passed away Sunday, January 8, (1967) in a Blaine rest home after an extended illness. Miss Savins (sic) is survived by 3 nephews. SAVINGS, Harry, age 82 years, pioneer resident of the Lynden district, passed away Tuesday, October 2, (1951) after a short illness. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Davies, of Blaine, and Katherine and Bertha Savings, both of Bellingham, and two brothers, Lawrence, of Blaine, and Arthur, in South Dakota. SAVINGS, Katherine, a pioneer resident of Blaine, passed away Tuesday, March 27, (1956) in a local hospital following a lingering illness. She leaves to survive two sisters, Miss Bertha Savings of Bellingham; Mrs. Lilly Davies of Blaine; also two brothers, Lawrence Savings of Blaine and Arthur Savings of North Dakota. SAVINGS, Larry, age 87, of Blaine, passed away at his home, Sunday, Oct. 29, (1961). He'd been a resident of Blaine his entire life and for many years had worked for the Morrison Lumber Co. Survivors include one brother, Arthur of Fort Meade, S.D., and two sisters, Bertha Savings of Blaine and Lillian Davies of Snohomish. SAVINGS, Victor A., age 64, passed away Sunday, February 6, (1949) in a Bellingham hospital, following a short illness. He had been a Blaine resident all his life. SAVINI, Joe, age 42, of 3405 Mt. Baker Hiway, passed away Oct. 7, (1986). SAVORA, Nick C., age 42, of 1141 Marine Drive, passed away Thursday, June 15, (1950). Mr. Savora was a native of Russia. He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 13 years. Surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Mary Savora, of Bellingham; three brothers, John, of Anchorage, Thomas, of Bellingham, and Mike, of Seattle; a sister, Miss Joanne Savora, of Los Angeles. SAVORA, Thomas William - Services for Thomas William Savora, 77, a cook, fisherman and farmer, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Sallis of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Savora, 1848 Marine Drive died Sunday (March 26, 1989) in Bellingham. He was born March 1, 1912, in Canada. A past member of the Cooks and Culinary Union in Alaska, he had lived in Whatcom County since 1935. Survivors include three (step)daughters, Betty, Joann and Sonia Dubbs, all of Bellingham; two step-sons, Mike Dubbs of Everson and Thomas L. Dubbs of Tacoma; nine grandchildren; and numerous other relatives in British Columbia.

SAVOY, Christine A., 82, passed away on April 2, 1992 in Tacoma after a long struggle with cancer. Formerly a longtime resident of Bellingham, she worked as a program assistant in the graduate program of the Psychology Dept. at WWU. She was preceded in death by her daughter Robin Ann Savoy and her husband James Irvin Savoy. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Young, Vancouver, B.C.; her son, James Savoy, Tacoma; and her granddaughter, Erika Savoy, Marysville. Services will be held at Ocean View Funeral Park, Burnaby, B.C. at 3 p.m. on Sat. April 25.

SAWYER, Carmen A. Russell, 59, a former Bellingham resident, died in Bellingham, Tuesday (February 5, 1991). Mrs. Sawyer of 1006 Sandy Beach Road, Thorne Bay, Alaska, was born and reared in Bellingham. She had lived in Thorne Bay, Alaska for the past 8 years. Mrs. Sawyer was born April 5, 1931, to Frank and Storma Russell in Bellingham. She graduated from Mount Baker High School. She married Ralph H. Sawyer in 1957 in Bellingham. Mrs. Sawyer was a member of Thorne Bay Church. Survivor include her husband, Ralph H. Sawyer of Thorne Bay; a daughter, Kay McMaster of Thorne Bay; 2 sons, Russell Scott Sawyer of Thorne Bay, Douglas L. Sawyer of Yuba City, Calif; brothers, George and Boyd Russell of Thorne Bay, Rev. SAWYER, Ernest Grant - Funeral services for Ernest Grant Sawyer, 88, a four-year Bellingham resident and member of Seattle's Ark Lodge No. 126, F&AM, will be held Wednesday in Seattle. Mr. Sawyer, of 1400 Moore St. died Sunday in Bellingham. He was born Oct. 18, 1901, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was also a member of the York Rite Bodies. Survivors include his wife, Amy; three daughters, Joan Carpenter of Seattle, Donna Dunaway of Felda, Fla., and Susan Lilja of Park, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. SAWYER, Jesse Samuel, age 76 of Rt. 2, Lynden passed away suddenly at his home Friday, Sept. 30, 1960. Mr. Sawyer had been a resident of the Lynden area for the past 16 years and was a member of the 10 Mile Grange. Surviving are his wife, Lucy Etta Sawyer; 2 sons Ralph Kirkham of Moses Lake and Harry Kirkham of Seattle; 1 daughter, Mrs. Vernice Edin of Rt. 2, Lynden; 1 brother Charles Sawyer of Tiffin, Ohio; 3 grandsons; 1 granddaughter and 1 great-grandson. SAWYER, Everette, age 67 of 4862 Haxton Way, Ferndale, passed away suddenly at home Monday, September 26, 1983. Mr. Sawyer had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1950, was a retired employee of Georgia Pacific and was a member of the A.W.P.P.W. Local 309. SAWYER, Henry E., age 70, life resident of Sedro Woolley died in his home Feb. 13, (1980). Born July 6, 1909 in Sedro Woolley. He was a WWII veteran. United in marriage to Gertrude Lynn in 1943. Mr. Sawyer had been employed as a carpenter for over 30 years. Member of the Bethleham Luthern (sic) Church, life member of Mt. Vernon Elks. Survived by his wife Gertrude, 2 sisters, Edna Lepper, Sedro Woolley, Alma Phillips, Burlington. An aunt & uncle, Mr. & Mrs. George Vogel, Sedro Woolley. SAWYER, Marion A., age 69, of 702 32nd St. passed away Tues. Jan. 2, 1979. Mrs. Sawyer had been a resident of this community for the past 3 1/2 yrs. & attended the Presbyterian Church. SAWYER, Marsha E. (Graham), of Bellingham, died at home Sat. Sept. 15, 1990, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was employed by the Bellingham Herald for the last 3 1/2 years as a District Sales Manager in the Circulation Dept. Marsha was born Aug. 10, 1946 in Wakefield, R.I. She moved to Bellingham in February of 1973. After graduating from WWU with a BA in Art History, Marsha was active in the fight against illiteracy and had a strong commitment to the arts. She was an avid gardener & wool spinner. As an active member of the Wakefield Baptist Church, Marsha sang lead soprano for several years with her father in the choir. She also taught Sunday School. Survivors include her parents, Milton & Doris (Wilson) Graham of Wakefield, R.I.; brother Richard Graham of Tacoma; her sister, Cheryl Graham of Wakefield, R.I.; her 2 nieces, Heather and Roxanne. Memorial service Sun. Sept. 23, 2 p.m. First Baptist Church, 110 Flora, Bellingham, with Rev. Keith Madsen officiating. Following the memorial services friends are invited to meet the family at Marsha's home. Her body will be cremated with inurnment in Wakefield, R.I. Arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.

SAWYER, Thelma Irene, age 49, 2007 Monroe Street, passed away in a Seattle hospital Sunday, March 31, (1963). Mrs. Sawyer was a forty-year resident of Bellingham. Survivors are her husband, George, at home; three sons, Raymond Sorenson, Kent; Leslie Sorenson in California and Lee Sorenson in Germany; two daughters, Mrs. Dalene Miller, California; Mrs. Shirley Autry in Texas; eleven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ritabelle Petersen, Chehalis. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. George Ackley Thursday, April 4 at 1 p.m. Cremation will follow.

SAXON, Mazie Etta, age 91 of 16032 16th S.W., Seattle, died Tues. June 3, 1980. SAYER, Alva T., age 86, of 811 N. Garden, passed away Tues., Sept. 8, (1987). Mrs. Sayer had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 68 years, was a member of the Sehome Chapter of OES & the Crosanthom Club. She leaves to survive, her husband Russell E. of the home; cousins, Jessie Anderson & Caroline Carstens of Pasadenia, (sic) CA. SAYER, Julia, age 101, passed away Aug. 26, (1981) in a local nursing home. She was born May 17, 1880. She had been a resident in Bellingham for 59 years. She was a retired bookkeeper from BB Meat & Sausage Co. She was a member of the Firs, the Neighbors of the Woodcraft & Sehome Eastern Star No. 17. She is survived by 1 son, Russell Sayer of Bellingham; 3 nieces, Jessie Anderson of Bellingham, Virgie Pynor of Ferndale, Marian Pearce of Bellingham. SAYER, Russell E., age 83 of 811 N. Garden passed away Sun., November 22, 1987 at his residence. He had been a resident of Whatcom County for 72 yrs. He was past Master of B'ham Bay Lodge No. 44 F & A.M., patron of the Eastern Star & a member of the B'ham Elks Club. Survived by his cousin Jessie Collyer Anderson of B'ham. SAYERS, Jerry V., 33 years old, of Wenatchee, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 9, (1954) as a result of an accident. He was employed by the Rainier Shows. He is survived by two sons, Robert D. and Jerry Sayers; one daughter, Linda of Everett; his mother, Mrs. V. E. Tremaian of Bronson, Kan. The remains were forwarded by the Westford Funeral Home to Moran Kansas, for interment.

SAYRE, Alfred Owen, age 79, who resided at 7383 Birch Bay Drive, Blaine, passed away in a local hospital Oct. 21, (1979). He had owned and operated the Georgetown Transfer & Storage Co., Seattle and in later years drove ambulance for Seattle Boeing. He was a 50 year member of the Central Lodge No. 208 F&AM. He leaves to survive his wife, Gwendolyn of Birch Bay, 1 daughter, Gloria Santinoni of Bellevue, 1 sister, Ruby Deasc of Seattle, 2 granddaughters, Judity Choate and Cynthia Luke, 1 great-grandson, Ryan Choate, all of Renton, Wash. Funeral services will be held Wed. Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Veroske, Jerns, McKinney Funeral Home, Blaine, with Rev. George Philps officiating with interment to follow in Enterprise Cemetery.

SAYRE, Ralph Franklin - Retired shipping foreman Ralph Franklin Sayre, 86, of 2818 Old Fairhaven Parkway died Monday (April 22, 1991) at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus. He was born Jan. 7, 1905, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He lived for the past decade in Bellingham to be closer to his son, James Sayre of Burnaby, B.C., who survives him. Mr. Sayre was a retired shipping foreman. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing pool and fishing. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Sayre married Ruth Kayser in September 1937 in Pittsburgh. She survives him at the family home. Other survivors include three grandchildren. Private family services were held. Arrangements are by Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Chapel.
