L. Croswhite. Mrs. Croswhite not only copied the gravestone inscriptions but checked newspaper obituaries and interviewed people who had knowledge of relatives and friends buried in the cemetery. Their work was published in the Yakima Valley Genealogy Society Bulletin about 1970. Permission for the use of that published information was granted by YVGS on November 6, 1999. The Cowiche Natchez Cemetery is one of the earliest in the Yakima Valley. The cemetery is on the bank above Pioneer Way, about one- half mile from its intersection with the Yakima-Cowiche Hiway, some 13 miles west of Yakima. It was fenced with barbed wire and there was a rough road up to the cemetery gate.
