She moved to the Issaquah area in 1985 and married icon Bob Cramer on Feb. 23, 1991. Mrs. Cramer was employed by the Boeing Company as a machinist. She was a member of Eagles No. 3054 Women's Auxiliary. During leisure time, she enjoyed family and watching football. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Brian Hathaway of Hobart and Blake Hathaway of Helena, Mont.; two sisters, Jody Bell of Spokane and Anne Walker of Graham; and one grandchild. Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Janet V. McAuliffe Issaquah resident Janet V. McAuliffe, 76, died on Jan. 12, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Cecily Cline. At her request, no services will be conducted. She was born icon on Oct. 26, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of Norman and Wylla Alley. She was raised in California and graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1941. On Jan. 8, 1949, she married icon Richard McAuliffe in Las Vegas. The couple traveled the world during Mr. McAuliffe's 30-year career with the U.S. Air Force. After his retirement, they moved to Bellevue. In 1994, they moved to Providence Point. Mrs. McAuliffe was a member of the Overlake Service League, Bellevue Women's Club and Ryther Organization. During leisure time, she enjoyed family, reading, painting and traveling. Survivors include Cline; daughters Tracy Michael of Virginia and Tina McAuliffe of California; step-daughter Leslie McAuliffe of California; a sister, Noreen Adams of California; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Robert McFarland Reverend Robert McFarland, 84, died of heart complications on Jan. 9, 2000, at Providence Medical Center in Seattle. A memorial service was held on Jan. 15 at the Church of the Resurrection in Bellevue. Rev. McFarland was born icon in Chanute, Kansas, on May 6, 1915. He was raised and went to school in Bremerton. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1940, and from Yale Divinity School in 1944 with a major in ministry to religion in higher education, a major in institutional ministry and received a Master of Divinity degree. Rev. McFarland entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served as chaplain assigned to Communication Headquarters for the China-Burma-India theater in Calcutta, India. Upon his return to the United States, he enrolled in Puget Sound University where he earned a masters degree in education administration and English. He married icon Lucille Webster on Jan. 20, 1948. He was ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in 1948, and became vicar of St. Michaels and All Angels in Issaquah 1965. His work took him to New York City, Bombay, India, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands and throughout Washington state. He maintained an active career in the National Guard and Army Reserve. After his retirement in 1977 he moved back to his home in Issaquah where he was a relief minister at various local Episcopal churches. In his leisure hours Rev. McFarland enjoyed gourmet cooking, gardening, art collecting and computer science. Survivors include his wife of Issaquah; son Robert Jr. of Torrance, Calif.; daughters Marcia Branna of Roy, Mary Brown of Aberdeen and Ellen Parkinson of Gresham, Ore.; sister Nina Duncan of Poway, Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Peterson Issaquah resident and retired Army Major Theodore 'Ted' Harris Peterson, 90, died on Jan. 15, 2000, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. Mr. Peterson was born icon on May 22, 1919, in Corinth, N.D., the son of Seval and Annie Peterson. He was raised on the family farm, and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1941. He served with distinction in World War II participating in both the North African campaign and the invasion of Italy with the 33rd Infantry. In the latter, he received a battlefield commission to 2nd Lt., and began a career military officer. He retired in 1963. Following his military service, Mr. Peterson completed his graduate education and teacher certification at the University of Washington in Seattle. He taught at Hazen High School in Renton for 16 years and retired in 1981. In 1979, he married icon Mary Brown in Issaquah. They have made their home here since. Survivors include his wife; three children, Susan Leaf of Bellevue, Michael Peterson of Redmond and Susan Ahrens of Bellevue; three sisters, Anna Njos, Florence Kinnune and Pearl Beach, and a brother Boyd Peterson, all of Issaquah; and four granddaughters. Howard Vandewenter Former Issaquah resident Howard L. Vandewenter, 79, died on Jan. 11, 2000, at his home in Port Orchard. Mr. Vandewenter was born icon on June 21, 1920, in Perry, Iowa, the son of John and Golda Vandewenter. He was raised and attended school in Wilmington, Calif. Mr. Vandewenter served with the U.S. Coast Guard in San Diego, Calif., from 1942 to 1945. He married icon Ruth Bodily on Oct. 14, 1944, in San Diego. The family moved to Issaquah in 1965. Mr. Vandewenter worked as a longshoreman in California and Seattle for 35 years, 18 of which were spent as a foreman with Sealand in Seattle. He retired in 1985. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of Port Orchard; son David Vandewenter of Massachusetts; daughter Kris Ann Riddle of Port Orchard; sister Leila Rhoads of Portis, Kansas; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mr. Hope was born icon on March 10, 1912, in Pittsburg, Pa., the son of William and Anna Hope. He was raised in Pittsburg, where he graduated from high school. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. From 1946 to 1965 he served as a marine engineer for the Military Sea Transportation Service. He retired from the Merchant Marines in 1974. He married icon Eleanor L. Wicklund in September of 1950 in Seattle. The family moved to Seattle in 1951. Mr. Hope was a private pilot and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Renton. William Melvin Lewis Hutsen Funeral services for William L. Hutsen, 80, of Sammamish, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Feb. 3, 2000, at Faith United Methodist Church, 3924 Issaquah-Pine Lake Rd. S.E., Sammamish. He died on Jan. 30 at Providence Marianwood. Mr. Hutsen was born icon June 25, 1919 in Osgood, Ind., the son of Elmer and Nora Hutsen. He was raised in Columbus, Ind., graduated from Columbus High School and attended Indiana Central. On March 4, 1951, he married icon Imogene Eslinger in Indianapolis. He began his career as a semi-pro baseball player and then was an independent insurance agent for the rest of his life. They moved to the Plateau in 1933. Mr. Hutsen loved to attend all of his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of Sammamish; sons Yogi Hutsen of Sammamish and David Jones of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters Clauda and Alberta; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Sutter Helen Sutter, 83, a long-time resident of Issaquah died Feb. 8, 2000, at her Bellevue home. A memorial service was Feb. 12, at Flintofts Issaquah Funeral Home. Mrs. Sutter was born icon in Easton. She married icon Fritz Sutter in 1936. After a stint in Coolee City, where Mr. Sutter worked on and survived a fall from Coolee Dam, they returned to Issaquah. Here they began a car dealership across from the old Issaquah Feed and Grain store owned by brother-in-law Ben Sutter, and purchased property along east Lake Sammamish. Later they would begin a logging business, move to Oregon and California, and then return in the late 40's to build a home on the lake. Mrs. Sutter was a bookkeeper for the family businesses and worked for the federal government as a materials forwarder. In the mid 1970s they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., so she could accept a promotion. They returned upon her retirement a few years later. Mr. and Mrs. Sutter enjoyed travel and visited Europe, Australia and Mexico, and cruised the Panama Canal and Alaska. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Hazel Main, of North Bend. She is survived by sons Fred of Lacey, Richard of Shoreline, Jim of Issaquah and Robert of North Bend; daughter Pamela Spencer of North Bend; sisters Wilma Boone of Olympia and Betty Powell of Wapato; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family suggests remembrances to your favorite charity. Richard R. Ondras Richard Robert "Dick" Ondras, 69, died Feb. 13, 2000, at his home in Bellevue. He was remembered as a hard-working, family man, a Texas boy at heart who enjoyed gospel and old-time country music. A memorial was conducted on Feb. 19 at the Providence Point clubhouse. He was born icon on Dec. 1, 1914, in Evanston, Ill, the son of James and Grace Anderson. The family moved to New Jersey during his early teen years and he graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1934. Mr. Anderson met his future wife Katherine on Halloween 1935. The couple married icon June 8, 1940. He was employed by the Curtiss-Wright Corp. Aeronautical Division from 1936-57. Mr. Anderson also spent 17 years as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. Accompanied by his family, he served in Costa Rica and Guatamela. He was honored in 1972 by appearing in the first Who's Who in Government and retired in December 1974. After retirement, the couple lived in Florida and Maine before moving to Issaquah in 1990. Mr. Anderson was a member of the American Foreign Service Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Issaquah Amateur Radio Club, American Radio Relay League, AARP and was a Red Cross emergency worker for Washington, King County and the City of Issaquah. He helped organize the Providence Point emergency response team. During leisure time, Mr. Anderson enjoyed photography, collecting autographs of famous aviators (more than 600), theater, singing, dancing, was fluent in Spanish, ham radio operating, computers and politics. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah Anderson of Portland, Ore., and Barbara Jordan and her husband Mike of Bellevue and four grandchildren. The family moved to Houston, Texas, in 1961. In 1984, Mrs. Johnson retired to Mission Viejo, Calif., to be near her daughter. In 1999, she moved to Bellevue to live near her son. He was born icon Aug. 1, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Polish immigrant parents Frank and Thelma Orzechowski. He was raised and schooled in Cleveland. Mr. Orzechowski served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1957. In 1944, he married icon Florence Goddard in Kentucky. He and his family lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Japan, prior to moving to Issaquah in 1957. Mr. Orzechowski worked for King County as a clerk and retired in 1975. He was a member of the F. & A.M. in Kentucky. During lesirue hours, Mr. Orzechowski enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid outdoorsman. She was born icon on Sept. 28, 1902 in Madison, Wisc. At the age of 12 she and her family moved to Tacoma. In 1925 she married icon Frank Castagno and they moved to Issaquah to join his brother, Rem Castagno, who operated Renton Issaquah Auto Freight. Mrs. Castagno was a 50-year charter member of the Issaquah Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild, a longtime member of both the Issaquah Garden Club and the Rebekka Lodge of Issaquah. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband in March 1990. Mrs. Castagno is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lewis and her husband Jim of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Frank Lewis of Sammamish and Judy Richards and her husband Rod of Centralia; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jacobi was born icon on May 28, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Neb., the son of Henry and Clare Jacobi. He was raised on a farm. He "hiked all over Germany" with the Third Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in 1946. He returned in 1950, and married icon Marilyn Gilliam. They settled in Valley, Neb., and for the next 35 years Mr. Jacobi worked selling irrigation systems to farmers throughout the western United States and Canada. The family moved west in the 1960s. They lived in Yakima and Richland. They also spent time in Boise, Idaho; Billings, Mont.; and Incline Village, Nev. Mr. Jacobi was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 58 in Nebraska. In his leisure hours Mr. Jacobi enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, laughter and good storytelling. David Briggs David M. Briggs, 67, of Issaquah, died on March 8, 2000, at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue. A memorial service is March 15 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Mr. Briggs was born icon on Nov. 18, 1912, in Erie, Pa., the son of James and Grace Briggs. His grandfather, Murry Briggs, was founder of the Sullivan Democrat, now known as the Sullivan Daily Times, which was the first newspaper in Sullivan, Pa. Mr. Briggs married icon Helen Baldenwick on Jan. 1, 1945. They lived in Western Springs, Ill., until 1950 when they moved to Mercer Island. In 1984 they moved to Issaquah. Mr. Briggs was employed as an engineer for the Boeing Co. prior to his retirement in 1977. In his leisure hours Mr. Briggs enjoyed books and poetry, and he and his wife shared a love of horses and training collie dogs. His wife preceded him in death in 1996. Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Wendell Giberson Former Issaquah resident Wendell Giberson, 82, of Lake Tapps, died on March 9, 2000, at his home. A memorial service was March 13 at Creator Lutheran Church in Sumner. Mr. Giberson was born icon in Montesano on June 13, 1917, and was raised on the family farm in the Wynoochee Valley. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1936. He was a 4-H member from 1928 to 1937, served as a delegate to the 4-H Club Congress in Chicago in 1938, and served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Giberson worked for Consolidated Aircraft and as a civilian for the military. He was a missile technician and attended numerous schools throughout the United States during that time. He retired in 1974 and lived in Issaquah from 1969 to 1989. In his leisure hours, Mr. Giberson enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Giberson never married. He lived as a member of the Bert and Dorothy Giberson family for the last 35 years of his life. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Pinnon in 1963. Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Steve Kerola Former Issaquah resident Steve Kerola, 50, died on March 1 in Silverton, Ore., of natural causes. A memorial is at 11 a.m. March 31 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 1790 south 222, in Des Moines. Mr. Kerola was born icon on May 20, 1949, the son of Agnes and Alvin Kerola. He graduated in 1968 from Issaquah High School, where he was on the wrestling team. He won the 1968 Washington State wrestling championship with an undefeated season at 168 pounds. Mr. Kerola was in the Army National Guard Reserve for 16 years. He graduated from Western Washington University and moved to Oregon to begin his career in education. He was a respected teacher at Gervais High School for 16 years where he taught art and industrial arts, and coached wrestling. Mr. Kerola initiated a student home building project where his students spent a year planning, designing and building a home. The Oregon Building Congress named him the "Oregon Technology Educator of the Year" in 1994 for his teaching excellence. For the last seven years, Mr. Kerola operated his own business, "Oregon Oak Products." In his leisure hours he enjoyed the company of his many friends at the Town House Cafe, riding his custom Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, fishing, woodworking, collecting, gardening and visiting with family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include sisters Mary Lynn Boland and her husband Jim of Fairfax Station, Va., and Karen Crotty and her husband Jim of Des Moines; brother Don Kerola of Houston, Texas; and six nieces and one nephew. Remembrances are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Edith F. Stewart Issaquah resident Edith (Pearson) F. Stewart, 91, died on March 10, 2000, at Providence Marianwood. A graveside inurnment service is at 11 a.m. March 18 at Cedar Lawns Memorial Park in Redmond. She was born icon on March 4, 1909, in High Point, the daughter of Peter and Kristine Pearson. She graduated from Issaquah High School. Mrs. Stewart was employed as an insurance claims adjuster for many years. The former Mercer Island resident enjoyed family and flower gardening during leisure time. Survivors include three sisters, Linnea Larson of Kenmore, Anne Johnson of Issaquah and Myrtle Hanavan of Oceanside, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin in 1992. A private family memorial service was conducted. She was born icon on Oct. 3, 1912, in Chicago. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1933 with a degree in art. During the 1930s, she taught school in Wisconsin. Later, she became a travel agent. In 1936, she married icon Charles Schuller. The couple was married icon 59 years and lived in six states and traveled extensively abroad. The couple settled in Longboat Key, Fla., after retirement in 1974. A graduate of California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, Mr. Sherman worked for IBM in California before moving to the Issaquah area in 1980. Christine Lehman Former Issaquah resident Christine Ellen Lehman, 80, died March 11, 2000, at the Good Neighbors Home in Springfield, Ore. At her request, no services were conducted. She was born icon on April 14, 1919, in Chokio, Minn., the daughter of Clinton and Lila DeCamp. The family moved west and settled in Vancouver, Wash. In 1971, Mrs. Lehman moved to Issaquah. For several years, she was employed by United Control in Redmond. She also worked as an in-home caregiver and had a deep compassion for her clients. Frederick Lovejoy Frederick Bentley Lovejoy, 90, of Bellevue, formerly of Issaquah, died on March 29, 2000, at Cascade Vista in Redmond. Thomas Coupe (for whom Coupeville is named), grandson of Capt. Howard Bentley Lovejoy (pioneer settler of Coupeville, Whidbey Island, in 1855), and son of Edwin Owen Lovejoy (boat builder and owner of an early sawmill at Coupeville), and Flora Cranney Lovejoy, granddaughter of Capt. Coupe. Mr. Lovejoy graduated from Coupeville High School and Hall School of Commerce in Seattle and attended the University of Washington. He was a life member of Alumni Association and Sigma Chi Fraternity, and a charter member and past president of the Sahalee Country Club. His first employment with American-Hawaiian Steamship Co. lasted for 15 years until its entire fleet of 28 ships was commandeered for government use in the World War II. Subsequent employment with Everett Pacific Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. (a Pacific Car and Foundry subsidiary) was for 12 years, followed by 14 years at PACCAR's Renton division, from which he retired in 1974. Survivors include his wife, Jane of Bellevue; sons F. Bentley Lovejoy of Bellevue and William Lovejoy of Vancouver; daughter Jane Littlefield of Bellevue; six grandchildren and two great granddaughters. John Wicks John Joseph Wicks, 79, died on March 25, 2000, at LakeRidge Social Care Center in Moses Lake. Mr. Wicks was born icon on May 15, 1920, in Star, Ore., the son of the late Joseph and Lois Ione Wicks. He was raised and educated in Cottage Grove and Springfield, Ore., and graduated from Thurston High School. He served in the Army on Adak Island as a firefighter and as a medic on the Aleutian Island Chain during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. Mr. Wicks married icon Marjie Lea Pruitt on April 25, 1942, in Thurston, Ore. In 1962 they moved to Fall City. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1996. Within the following year, Mr. Wicks moved to Moses Lake to be near his son. Mr. Wicks was an active member of the Christian Church in Issaquah, and also had been active in the Preston Baptist Church and the Thurston Christian Church before moving to Fall City. In his leisure hours, Mr. Wicks enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, building and fixing various items and old cars, and spending time with the fellowship and friends in the church. Mr. Brauer was born icon on July 29, 1914, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Rudolph and Marjorie Brauer. He attended school in Oakpark, Ill., before earning an engineering degree from Grinell (Iowa) College. Mr. Brauer worked in the purchasing department of Seattle's Union Oil Company for more than 20 years. He began his own business in 1964, working as a manufacturer's representative for Besco Building Specialties in Bellevue and Issaquah. His business manufactured signs and identifying devices. Mr. Brauer married icon Lois Schafer on Dec. 27, 1966, in Bellevue. The couple lived in the Redmond/Sammamish area for most of their married icon life. Mr. Brauer sold his business and retired in 1981. In his free time, he enjoyed stamp collecting, fishing, gardening, reading, card playing and raising German shepherd dogs. Mr. Brauer is survived by his wife of Sammamish; a niece, Carrie Engstrom of Sammamish; and two nephews, Mark Engstrom of Whitlash, and John Leonard of Seattle. Manley Jenkins Manley Jenkins, 87, of Trenton, N.C., died at home on April 10, 2000. Funeral services were April 14 at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in Jones County. Rev. Don Fader and Dr. W. Burkette Raper officiated. Mr. Jenkins was born icon and raised on a farm in Jones County, N.C. He and his wife Mildred moved to New Bern, N.C., in 1941 to start a family. Although he worked for the state for more than 25 years, he remained a farmer all his life, first on the farm he bought in 1949, and later on the family farm in Jones County. Mr. Jenkins was a longtime member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, the Farm Bureau and a Weyerhaeuser Tree Farm Family. In his leisure hours, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren riding behind his tractor, digging potatoes, and caring for pigs, cows and chickens. He was a helpful man, devoted to his family and friends. Mrs. Nisbet died at home on April 11. Mrs. Nisbet was born icon on Jan. 23, 1906, in Cass City, Mich., the daughter of Harry Pearl and Lucy Glendora Lee. She was raised in Cass City, where she graduated from high school. Following high school she attended Pratt Institute of Fashion Design in New York City. On Sept. 26, 1931, she married icon Allan Botha Dirkse van Schalkwijk. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1970. On Oct. 9, 1971, she married icon Herbert J. Nisbet. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1979. Mrs. Nisbet was a dress designer, manager and buyer in the retail clothing industry. In May 1990, she moved to Providence Point in Issaquah. She was a member of Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America and various garden clubs, including at Providence Point and in Skokie, Ill., and Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Her special interests included spending time with her family and friends, genealogy, Ikebana flower arranging and gardening. Mrs. Nisbet is survived by two daughters, Deborah V. Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Irvin N. Knutson Irvin "Bud" Neprud Knutson of Issaquah died of cancer on May 12, 2000 at his Providence Point home. He was 84. He was born icon on Sept. 25, 1915 in Blair, Wis., the son of Irvin N. and Minnie (Neprud) Knutson. He spent his youth living in Coon Valley, Wis., and graduated president of his class from nearby Westby High School in Westby, Wis. After attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., he was employed by the Westby-Coon Valley State Bank. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He married icon Ruth H. Romine of New Richland, Minn., in Rockford, Ill, on Nov. 9, 1935. After living several years in Coon Valley and Westby, he moved his family in 1954 to Kirkland, where he was manager of the Citizens Bank of Kirkland. He joined the National Bank of Commerce (now Bank of America) in 1955 and served as manager for branches in Ellensburg, Clarkston, Renton and Seattle before retiring from RainierBank in 1980 as a vice president and loan officer. He lived in Bellevue for 36 years before moving to Providence Point in 1997. Mr. Knutson was an Eagle Scout. He served on several boards and was a charter member and past council officer of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue. He also was involved in Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce of Renton. Preceding him in death was his wife of 60 years. He is survived by three sons, David R. Knutson and wife Marilyn of Tacoma, Dr. Dennis D. Knutson and wife Mary Ann of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dean P. Knutson and wife Jill of Issaquah; daughter Jean E. Greif and husband Frank of Seattle; two brothers, Lincoln V. Knutson of Westby, Wis. and James E. Mrs. Young was born icon on July 6, 1909, on the family farm in Roxbury, Maine. She was raised in Roxbury and Canton, Maine, and then traveled to New York as a young woman to work as a nanny. She married icon Howard Young on Oct. 24, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y. They returned to Maine to live and work with their parents on their farms. In 1945 they moved to Bremerton. During World War II, Mr. Young worked in the Naval Shipyard, and with the end of the war the family moved to the Snoqualmie Valley. Mrs. Young served on the board of directors at Mount Si Senior Center and Snoqualmie Methodist Church. She played the organ and sang in the choir at the Methodist Church. She also managed the food and clothing Bank in North Bend. In her leisure hours Mrs. Young taught Sunday school, worked on fundraisers with the "Ladies Aide," and spent many mornings preparing a "country breakfast" for friends and family. She was preceeded in death by her husband in 1977. Survivors include four sons, Sam and wife Masako Young of Silverdale, Frank and wife Sandy Young of Pensacola, Fla., Jim and wife Jan Young of Snoqualmie, and Bob and wife Deb Young of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter Sally and her husband Larry Van Kirk of Issaquah; sister Wilma Richards of West Brook, Maine; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchilden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Foss died May 21, 2000, at his Issaquah home. He was 91. At his request, no services will be conducted. Mr. Foss was born icon on April 20, 1909, in Norway, the son of Christian and Inga Foss. He was educated in Norway, graduated from high school and later from Oslo Music Conservatory, specializing as a school music teacher. He also worked as an organist for the Norwegian Lutheran Church. While in Norway he also served with the Norwegian Royal Guard. He came to the United States with his wife and children in 1951. In this country, he worked at various jobs, the last being at Clark Elementary School in Issaquah. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Marie, of nearly 64 years, of Issaquah; three children, Rick Foss of Wapato, Vickey Jacobson of Issaquah and Inge Stovner of Fairfax, Va.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Kortnik Former Issaquah resident Edward W. "Ed" Kortnik, 76, of East Wenatchee, died May 14, 2000, at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Kortnik was born icon on July 12, 1923, in Cle Elum, the son of Matt and Johanna Kortnik. He was raised and attended school in Cle Elum. Mr. Kortnik joined the United States Army and served as staff sergeant under Gen. George Patton. He served in France, Germany and Austria before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. He went on to graduate from Washington State University with a degree in civil engineering. He married icon Gayle Barkley Headley on Jan. 23, 1954, in Shelton. They lived in the Seattle, Bellevue and Issaquah areas for nearly 30 years before moving to East Wenatchee in 1984. Mr. Kortnik spent a year working for the Bureau of Reclamation in Ephrata, four years working for the Washington State Highway Department in Yakima, and 26 years with the City of Seattle Engineering Department. He retired in 1977 and spent several years working part time as an engineering consultant. In recent years Mr. Kortnik volunteered at Central Washington Hospital and worked for the East Wenatchee Safeway. He served as past commander of VFW Post No. 3436 in Issaquah, past charter member of BPOE Lodge No. 2546 in Issaquah and past president of the Washington State Chapter of APWA. He also was a member of the Wenatchee First Assembly of God, and the WSU Cougar Club and Alumni Association. His wife preceded him in death in 1990. Survivors include cousin Mrs. G.H. Beers, 86, of Seattle, died on July 4, 2000, at home following a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. Mrs. Beers, the daughter of Ole Haglund and Maria Liljemark Haglund, was born icon on Jan. 20, 1914, in Sweden. She immigrated with her family to America in 1914, settling in Preston. She attended school in Preston and graduated from Issaquah High School in 1932. Following graduation she married icon her high school sweetheart, George L. Beers, who preceded her in death in 1989. The couple lived in the West Seattle area for many years before moving to the Burien area. They returned to west Seattle in 1987. Mrs. Beers was active in Eastern Star, Amaranth, White Shrine and Rainbow Girls. She was a charter member of Crown Chapter No. 249, OES, and served as Worthy Matron in 1969, initiating the custom of the Traveling Jewel. She represented Crown Chapter as a grand officer in 1970 and 1972, served on the Rainbow Board for Southgate and West Seattle Assemblies, and received the Grand Cross of Colors in the International Order of Rainbow. Mrs. Beers was an active member of the Boulevard Park Presbyterian Church, serving as deaconess, Sunday school teacher, organist and youth leader. She was involved with her daughters in Girl Scouts and school activities. Her family always came first. In the last few years, due to failing health, Mrs. Beers was house bound, but she continued to enjoy her roses and her family. She is survived by two daughters, Mona Valley and husband Carl of West Seattle and Marla Osinski and husband Patrick of Chatham, N.J.; brother Harold Haglund and wife Cecelia of Federal Way; grandson Ken Holland and wife Jennie; and two great grandsons. Mrs. Carlson was employed as an office secretary for Gunderson Furniture. Following her husband's retirement they built a home on Vashon Island. They moved to Providence Point on Feb. 21, 1985, and later became members of Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by Mr. Carlson in 1980 and by Mr. Engeset in 1998. Mr. Gibson, a descendent of the Gibson family that settled in Issaquah in the 1880s, was born icon on Aug. 3, 1911, in Seattle. He lived in Issaquah in the early 1920s on his grandfather's farm. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1930 and the University of Washington in 1934. Mr. Gibson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired with the rank of commander. Mr. Gibson was a partner in Gibson-Soots, a men's clothing business on the site now occupied by Bellevue Square. He was an avid traveler and has visited all of the continents and nearly every country in the world. He arrived in the United States in 1924 at 10 years old. He married icon Violet O. Fredrickson on March 15, 1945, in Clarkston. The family lived in West Seattle, where he worked as a bread salesman for Golden Rule and Langendorf/Wonderbread. In 1957, the family moved to four acres in Issaquah adjacent to Sunset Elementary School. This is the original location of Kelly Ranch, started in 1960. In 1970, the ranch was moved to its present location on Renton- Issaquah Road. Mr. Kelly's favorite pasttime was creating lasting friendships with people who came from all over the world to visit the Kelly Ranch. He officially retired in 1990 at age 75. At age 74, he took a trip to Ireland to visit his old family home and to look up old friends. In his leisure time he enjoyed his morning coffee with the boys at Issaquah Cafe, and lunch - 11:30 a.m. sharp - was spent at his favorite restaurant where he enjoyed socializing. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur in 1978 and Martin in 1985. In 1980, she moved to San Jose and later to Grass Valley where she worked in sales for several different service-oriented businesses. She moved to Issaquah in 1993 and worked in computer sales. In her leisure hours Ms. Lazzeri enjoyed home decorating, running, biking, hiking and weight lifting. She also enjoyed travel and spending time with her family. Keith Floyd Warden Keith Floyd Warden, 44, died on July 15, 2000, in Ketchikan, Alaska. A memorial service was held on July 20 in Ketchikan. Mr. Warden was born icon on Nov. 17, 1955, in Seattle and grew up in Issaquah. A 1974 Issaquah High School graduate, he was an all-state wrestling champion and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Washington, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Warden moved to Alaska in the late 1980s. He logged in the southeast, crabbed in the Bering Sea, fished commercially, and finally settled in Ketchikan and became a carpenter. He was a general contractor and co-owner of Alaska Acoustical with his longtime friend, Brad Holm. In his leisure hours, Mr. Warden enjoyed martial arts and spending time with his family and friends. He was sensei of the Ketchikan Judo Club and assisted teaching judo to the Kayhi Wrestling Team. Hjormund Kummen Hjormund Kummen, 84, of Issaquah died on July 28 [2000] at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He was born icon Feb. 6, 1916, in Nordberg, Gudbransdal, Norway, the son of Gregor and Ragna Kummen. He was raised and attended school in Norway. In 1938, he graduated from the Swedish Technical School with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following college he joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force as a Sergeant Mechanic. During the German occupation of Norway, Mr. Kummen was captured twice and escaped each time; his second escape lead him through Russia to Canada. In Canada he was stationed in Toronto where Lt. Kummen trained as a pilot. While there, he also met his future bride, Charlotte Robinson. On March 11, 1944, they were married icon in Toronto. In 1946, they returned to Norway. Two years later, they returned to Canada, where he took a position with the Canadian Department of Defense. In 1959, the family moved to Issaquah, where they settled on Cougar Mountain. Mr. Kummen worked for Pacific Car and Foundry, retiring in 1982 as a design engineer. In his leisure time he enjoyed travel, especially to Norway, reading, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of Issaquah; son Jon Kummen of Fall City; daughters Rondi Martin of Pasadena, Calif., and Nancy Kummen of Issaquah; sisters Ronaug and Gudrun of Norway; and one grandson, Christopher Kummen. Mr. Seil was born icon on Sept. 5, 1922 in a log cabin on Tiger Mountain near Issaquah, the son of Edward and Josephine Seil. He was raised in Issaquah and graduated from Issaquah High School. He was known as the "sparkplug" of the high school football team. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. On April 12, 1946 he married icon Joyce M. Booren in Issaquah. Mr. Seil served as a chairman of the Issaquah Labor Day Parades. He also served as town marshall of Issaquah in the late 1940's. He retired from King County Department of Public Works as a foreman in 1984. The family lived in Issaquah until 1989. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and traveling. He was raised in Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas, a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. During World War II Mr. Wagner served in the Pacific Theater in the Navy, leaving the service as a Lt. Commander. Following the war he moved to Chicago where he met and married icon Florence Peterson. The next 18 years he and his wife lived in La Grange, Ill. with their son David, who was born icon in 1949. Mr. Wagner worked for Argonne National Laboratory as a mechanical engineer. They moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1971 where he did consultant work until his retirement. Following his retirement he and his wife traveled extensively. They were among the first families to move into Providence Point. Mr. Wagner performed volunteer work for Providence Point and Providence Point Kiwanis. Grace Foose Grace Foose, 92, of Issaquah, died Sept. 15, 2000, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. At her request no services will be held. She was born icon on Feb. 10, 1908, in Auburn, N.Y., the daughter of Fred and Clara Roe. She was raised and attended schools in Auburn. Following high school she attended Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. After college she moved to Syracuse, N.Y., where she took a job for an insurance company. There she met her future husband, Frank Foose. They married icon on Sept. 5, 1930, in Syracuse. In 1934 they moved to Harrisburg, Penn., where they settled and raised their family. Mrs. Foose and her husband started a telephone answering service in Harrisburg, which she ran for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker. She later served on the Harrisburg School Board in the early 1950s. Mrs. Foose moved to Issaquah in September 1990 to live with her daughter, following the death of her husband of 60 years. She enjoyed discussions of civic affairs, playing bridge and spending timewith her family. Her family remembers her as a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. Carol Irene Bustad Carol Irene Bustad, 42, a former Issaquah resident, died on Sept. 19, 2000, in Seattle. She moved to Mount Vernon in 1978 and went to work for the Boeing Co. where she was employed as a jig builder for the past 20 years. In 1982 she and her partner, Huey Ford, lived in the Kent area, and then moved to Shoreline in 1988. In her leisure hours Ms. Bustad enjoyed reading, crafts, camping, fishing, collecting dolls, water-color painting and spending time with her family. He attended University of California at Berkeley earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. Eilene Graham Kair Eilene Graham Kair, 74, of Issaquah, died Oct. 18, 2000, in Kalispell, Mont. She was born icon on May 31, 1926 in Kalispell the daughter of Art and Mildred (Solderstrom) Smith. Mrs. Kair graduated from Flathead High School In Kalispell. She married icon Gerrold Graham on May 4, 1942. Mrs. Kair was widowed in 1959. She married icon Richard Kair in 1960, then moved their family to Eastern Washington. They later divorced, and she moved to Issaquah in 1963. Mrs. Kair began work for Sunstrand Data Control in 1971 and retired in 1992. Mrs. Kair enjoyed her grandchildren and her annual trips to Kalispell to visit her mother. Mrs. Winslow was born icon on April 30, 1921, one of nine children of Theodore and Hannah Melland. She began playing the violin for her uncle Selmer before the age of 7. The Melland family moved to Bellingham, Wash., in the late 1920's. Mrs. Winslow continued her violin training from her father and other instructors. She often liked to tell the story of roller-skating up Douglas Street in Bellingham with her violin under her arm. Mrs. Winslow graduated from Bellingham High School in 1939. She married icon Harold W. Winslow on June 30, 1945. They moved to Issaquah in 1965. Mrs. Winslow worked as a bookkeeper for the Issaquah Press for 21 years. She was a 20-year member of the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra and was proud that in the 1980's both of her daughters joined her and also played in that group for a number of years. Mrs. Winslow also played with the Sammamish Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and the Cameo Strings Quartet. She especially enjoyed playing her violin and viola for Our Savior Lutheran Church where the Winslow family has attended since 1965. Mrs. Winslow was an active member of the Gideons International for 20 years. In addition Mrs. Winslow worked with The Miss Issaquah Pageant and served as a chaperone for several years. She was a 20-year member of the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra and was proud that in the 1980's both of her daughters joined her and also played in that group for a number of years. Mrs. Winslow also played with the Sammamish Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and the Cameo Strings Quartet. She especially enjoyed playing her violin and viola for Our Savior Lutheran Church where the Winslow family has attended since 1965. Mrs. Winslow was an active member of the Gideons International for 20 years. She served as president, area coordinator and new member instructor for camps in Western Washington. In addition, Mrs. Winslow worked with the Miss Issaquah Pageant and served as a chaperone for several years. In her leisure time Mrs. Winslow enjoyed sewing, knitting and crafting. Mrs. Winslow was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Fankhauser, and two brothers, Arthur and Palmer Melland. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Hansville after selling their home in Issaquah in 1992. Mrs. Godfrey was a member of the Issaquah Eagles Auxiliary #3054 since 1972, and was past president of the Issaquah Alumni Association. After graduating from Memorial High School in Manchester, Mr. O'Keefe joined the U.S. Marines and was awarded the Purple Heart for action on Guadalcanal during WWII. He married icon his childhood sweatheart, Sohhie Folis, in 1945. In 1965, they moved their family of five children to Bellevue when Mr. O'Keefe took a position with the Boeing Co. Mr. O'Keefe was well educated, earning degrees from St. Anselm College, Tufts University, Worcester Polytechnical Institute, Cornell University and Harvard University. Mr. O'Keefe was an avid golfer and was a past member of Glen Acres and Rainier Golf and Country clubs. His most cherished memories were golfing trips to Ireland with his three sons and the golf tournaments he played in and won with his son John. Mr. O'Keefe was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years. Beethe, 74, of Issaquah, died Nov. 23, 2000, at Highline Community Hospital in Tukwila. Mr. Beethe was born icon May 23, 1926, near Fullerton, N.D., the son of Martin and Edelsa (Mattson) Beethe. He received his education in the Fullerton area and was confirmed at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Lamoure, N.D. He married icon Evelyn Ganung on June 20, 1948, in Edgeley, N.D. They lived on the Beethe family farm in the Fullerton area, where they farmed. He worked as a carpenter until they moved to Fargo, N.D., in 1964. There, Mr. Beethe worked in the construction industry and ran the family's fishing resort, "Jim's Resort," on Lake Upper Cormorant, Minn. In 1975, his position as supervisor with Goodman Construction took the family to Issaquah, where he continued as a construction supervisor in the Seattle area until his retirement. Mr. Beethe was a family man who enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His love of working with wood led him in 1986 to build their final home near Issaquah Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Vivian Ulmer and Pearl Ulmer. Mr. Beethe is survived by his wife of Issaquah; daughters Jo Eve Ellig and her husband Van of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Caryl Beethe of Maple Valley; son Paul Beethe and his wife Shelly of Redmond; brothers Rex Beethe of Florissant, Mo., and Gerald Beethe of Bloomington, Minn.; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Francis J. Killoran Francis J. Killoran, 80, of Issaquah, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000. At his request no services will be held. Mr. Killoran was born icon on Feb. 8, 1920, in Spokane, the son of Fred and Olive Killoran of Canada. He had dual citizenship in the United States and Canada until Canada revised its citizenship rules. He was raised in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Mr. Killoran completed high school in Canada and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Washington. He farmed for a short time prior to enlisting with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served with the 268th Army Air Force from July 25, 1941 to Dec. 8, 1945. He also was an avid photographer and had actually taken many photos of Mount Saint Helens as it was erupting. Recently he was helping to restore old airplanes at a museum. He was a pilot and ham radio operator for many years. Mr. Schroeder loved his animals and always seemed to have a beloved dog or cat. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Nickell of Fall City; a brother, Thomas Schroeder of Tennessee; and five nephews and nieces. Mrs. Skanse was born icon on Feb. 22, 1911, in Mora, Minn., the daughter of John and Johanna Erickson. She was raised in Mora where she attended school. She married icon Rudolph M. Skanse in 1935 in Minneapolis. They moved to Issaquah in 1992 and to North Bend in 1999. Mrs. Skanse was a lifelong member of the Baptist General Conference. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano, and she served in several positions with her local church congregations including as a Sunday school teacher, as president of Womens Missionary Fellowship, and on various social committees. While a resident of Issaquah, she volunteered with the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank for several years. In 1994 she and her husband were named "Issaquah Grandparents of the Year." In her leisure hours Mrs. Skanse enjoyed knitting, playing Scrabble and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by daughter Sharon Skanse in 1965. Ted Howisey Ted Howisey, 93, of Sammamish and Sun Lakes, Ariz., died on Dec. 11, 2000 in Arizona. A celebration of his life will be held at the family home on Beaver Lake in the spring. Mr. Howisey was born icon on April 19, 1907, in Omaha, Neb., the first of seven children to Rose and William Howisey. He was raised on the family homestead in Wyoming and in Seattle where he graduated from Broadway High School. In 1927, Mr. Howisey joined with his father and brother, Ernest, in the family business, Howisey Brothers Refinishers and Upholsterers of Fine Furniture. His family of six brothers and sisters came to Beaver Lake in 1940 where they all eventually built cabins on the family property. Mr. Howisey was preceded in death by his first wife, Millie, in 1976, and by his second wife, Helen, in 1999. Mr. Howisey served as a commissioner on the original Sammamish Plateau Water District for 12 years. In his leisure hours he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He promoted family togetherness in his role of patriarch, which culminated in several annual family functions where as many as 80 members gathered. Most recently, Mr. Howisey resided in Lacey with friends Doti and Bernie Breyen, who cared for him there and in Arizona until his death. Mrs. Shauenberg worked for the U.S. Department of Engineers and retired in 1962. Her husband Ralph Shauenberg preceded her in death in 1984. Mr. Johnson was born on April 25, 1944 in Palermo, N.D., the son of Palmer and Mabel Johnson. He was raised in North Dakota and moved to the Renton area in the early 1960's. Mr. Johnson was employed by The Boeing Co. as a mechanic. He was a member of the Issaquah Eagles. In his leisure time Mr. Johnson enjoyed carpentry and bowling. He was preceded in death by one brother, Odin Johnson and one sister, Ethel Balch. Mr. Johnson is survived by his son, Scott E. Johnson of Renton; his daughter, Brandi J. Johnson of Federal Way; three brothers, Selmer Johnson of Colorado, Raynold Johnson of Plaza, N.D., and Marvin Johnson of Stanley, N.D.; two sisters, Carol Nichols of Seattle and Beverly Ward of Minot, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frederick Lovejoy Frederick Bentley Lovejoy, 90, of Bellevue, formerly of Issaquah, died on March 29, 2000, at Cascade Vista in Redmond. A private family service was at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville. Mr. Lovejoy was born on June 1, 1909, the great grandson of Capt. Thomas Coupe (for whom Coupeville is named), grandson of Capt. Howard Bentley Lovejoy (pioneer settler of Coupeville, Whidbey Island, in 1855), and son of Edwin Owen Lovejoy (boat builder and owner of an early sawmill at Coupeville), and Flora Cranney Lovejoy, granddaughter of Capt. Coupe. Mr. Lovejoy graduated from Coupeville High School and Hall School of Commerce in Seattle and attended the University of Washington. He was a life member of Alumni Association and Sigma Chi Fraternity, and a charter member and past president of the Sahalee Country Club. His first employment with American-Hawaiian Steamship Co. lasted for 15 years until its entire fleet of 28 ships was commandeered for government use in the World War II. Subsequent employment with Everett Pacific Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. (a Pacific Car and Foundry subsidiary) was for 12 years, followed by 14 years at PACCAR's Renton division, from which he retired in 1974. Survivors include his wife, Jane of Bellevue; sons F. Bentley Lovejoy of Bellevue and William Lovejoy of Vancouver; daughter Jane Littlefield of Bellevue; six grandchildren and two great granddaughters. John Wicks John Joseph Wicks, 79, died on March 25, 2000, at LakeRidge Social Care Center in Moses Lake. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 15 at Issaquah Christian Church with pastor Steve Grice officiating. Mr. Wicks was born on May 15, 1920, in Star, Ore., the son of the late Joseph and Lois Ione Wicks. He was raised and educated in Cottage Grove and Springfield, Ore., and graduated from Thurston High School. He served in the Army on Adak Island as a firefighter and as a medic on the Aleutian Island Chain during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. Mr. Wicks married Marjie Lea Pruitt on April 25, 1942, in Thurston, Ore. In 1962 they moved to Fall City. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1996. Within the following year, Mr. Wicks moved to Moses Lake to be near his son. Mr. Wicks was an active member of the Christian Church in Issaquah, and also had been active in the Preston Baptist Church and the Thurston Christian Church before moving to Fall City. In his leisure hours, Mr. Wicks enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, building and fixing various items and old cars, and spending time with the fellowship and friends in the church. At an early age she and her family moved to Oroville, where she was raised. She graduated from Othello High School in 1947. She married Dean A. Bergstrom on May 8, 1950, in Preston. They made their permanent home in Preston in 1951. For 25 years Mrs. Bergstrom was employed by the Issaquah School District in food services. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific. He was a master carpenter all his life and enjoyed gardening in his leisure time. He was born on Sept. 25, 1915 in Blair, Wis., the son of Irvin N. and Minnie (Neprud) Knutson. He spent his youth living in Coon Valley, Wis., and graduated president of his class from nearby Westby High School in Westby, Wis. After attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., he was employed by the Westby-Coon Valley State Bank. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He married Ruth H. Romine of New Richland, Minn., in Rockford, Ill, on Nov. 9, 1935. After living several years in Coon Valley and Westby, he moved his family in 1954 to Kirkland, where he was manager of the Citizens Bank of Kirkland. He joined the National Bank of Commerce (now Bank of America) in 1955 and served as manager for branches in Ellensburg, Clarkston, Renton and Seattle before retiring from RainierBank in 1980 as a vice president and loan officer. He lived in Bellevue for 36 years before moving to Providence Point in 1997. Mr. Knutson was an Eagle Scout. He served on several boards and was a charter member and past council officer of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue. He also was involved in Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce of Renton. Preceding him in death was his wife of 60 years. He is survived by three sons, David R. Knutson and wife Marilyn of Tacoma, Dr. Dennis D. Knutson and wife Mary Ann of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dean P. Mrs. Young was born on July 6, 1909, on the family farm in Roxbury, Maine. She was raised in Roxbury and Canton, Maine, and then traveled to New York as a young woman to work as a nanny. She married Howard Young on Oct. 24, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y. They returned to Maine to live and work with their parents on their farms. In 1945 they moved to Bremerton. During World War II, Mr. Young worked in the Naval Shipyard, and with the end of the war the family moved to the Snoqualmie Valley. Mrs. Young served on the board of directors at Mount Si Senior Center and Snoqualmie Methodist Church. She played the organ and sang in the choir at the Methodist Church. She also managed the food and clothing Bank in North Bend. In her leisure hours Mrs. Young taught Sunday school, worked on fundraisers with the "Ladies Aide," and spent many mornings preparing a "country breakfast" for friends and family. She was preceeded in death by her husband in 1977. Mrs. Sutter was born in Easton. She married Fritz Sutter in 1936. After a stint in Coolee City, where Mr. Sutter worked on and survived a fall from Coolee Dam, they returned to Issaquah. Here they began a car dealership across from the old Issaquah Feed and Grain store owned by brother-in-law Ben Sutter, and purchased property along east Lake Sammamish. Later they would begin a logging business, move to Oregon and California, and then return in the late 40's to build a home on the lake. Mrs. Sutter was a bookkeeper for the family businesses and worked for the federal government as a materials forwarder. In the mid 1970s they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., so she could accept a promotion. They returned upon her retirement a few years later. Mr. and Mrs. Sutter enjoyed travel and visited Europe, Australia and Mexico, and cruised the Panama Canal and Alaska. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Hazel Main, of North Bend. She is survived by sons Fred of Lacey, Richard of Shoreline, Jim of Issaquah and Robert of North Bend; daughter Pamela Spencer of North Bend; sisters Wilma Boone of Olympia and Betty Powell of Wapato; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was remembered as a hard-working, family man, a Texas boy at heart who enjoyed gospel and old-time country music. Briggs, 67, of Issaquah, died on March 8, 2000, at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue. A memorial service is March 15 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Mr. Briggs was born on Nov. 18, 1912, in Erie, Pa., the son of James and Grace Briggs. His grandfather, Murry Briggs, was founder of the Sullivan Democrat, now known as the Sullivan Daily Times, which was the first newspaper in Sullivan, Pa. Mr. Briggs married Helen Baldenwick on Jan. 1, 1945. They lived in Western Springs, Ill., until 1950 when they moved to Mercer Island. In 1984 they moved to Issaquah. Mr. Briggs was employed as an engineer for the Boeing Co. prior to his retirement in 1977. In his leisure hours Mr. Briggs enjoyed books and poetry, and he and his wife shared a love of horses and training collie dogs. His wife preceded him in death in 1996. A memorial service was March 13 at Creator Lutheran Church in Sumner. Mr. Giberson was born in Montesano on June 13, 1917, and was raised on the family farm in the Wynoochee Valley. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1936. He was a 4-H member from 1928 to 1937, served as a delegate to the 4-H Club Congress in Chicago in 1938, and served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Giberson worked for Consolidated Aircraft and as a civilian for the military. He was a missile technician and attended numerous schools throughout the United States during that time. He retired in 1974 and lived in Issaquah from 1969 to 1989. In his leisure hours, Mr. Giberson enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Giberson never married. He lived as a member of the Bert and Dorothy Giberson family for the last 35 years of his life. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Pinnon in 1963. A memorial is at 11 a.m. March 31 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 1790 south 222, in Des Moines. Mr. Kerola was born on May 20, 1949, the son of Agnes and Alvin Kerola. He graduated in 1968 from Issaquah High School, where he was on the wrestling team. He won the 1968 Washington State wrestling championship with an undefeated season at 168 pounds. Mr. Kerola was in the Army National Guard Reserve for 16 years. He graduated from Western Washington University and moved to Oregon to begin his career in education. He was a respected teacher at Gervais High School for 16 years where he taught art and industrial arts, and coached wrestling. Mr. Kerola initiated a student home building project where his students spent a year planning, designing and building a home. The Oregon Building Congress named him the "Oregon Technology Educator of the Year" in 1994 for his teaching excellence. For the last seven years, Mr. Kerola operated his own business, "Oregon Oak Products." In his leisure hours he enjoyed the company of his many friends at the Town House Cafe, riding his custom Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, fishing, woodworking, collecting, gardening and visiting with family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mrs. Castagno was a 50-year charter member of the Issaquah Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild, a longtime member of both the Issaquah Garden Club and the Rebekka Lodge of Issaquah. Mr. Jacobi was born on May 28, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Neb., the son of Henry and Clare Jacobi. He was raised on a farm. He "hiked all over Germany" with the Third Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in 1946. He returned in 1950, and married Marilyn Gilliam. They settled in Valley, Neb., and for the next 35 years Mr. Jacobi worked selling irrigation systems to farmers throughout the western United States and Canada. The family moved west in the 1960s. They lived in Yakima and Richland. They also spent time in Boise, Idaho; Billings, Mont.; and Incline Village, Nev. Mr. Jacobi was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 58 in Nebraska. Bensen Garfield R. Bensen, Lt. Col. USAF (retired), died April 11 in Kirkland. He was 86. Born Oct. 13, 1914, he lived in Bothell for 35 years. He was a graduate of Broadway High School and the University of Washington. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America, he obtained the ranking of Eagle Scout. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Bensen; sons Garfield Bensen Jr., Ward Bensen and Samuel M. Bensen; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dolly Louise Hawks McMurtrey Dolly Louise Hawks McMurtrey of Redmond died April 17 at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. She was 72. Born August 22, 1928, in Seattle, she graduated from West Seattle High School. She lived in Redmond since 1962. She was a housewife and a partner with her husband in many projects: thinning trees and trail maintenance contracts for the forest service, a vegetable farm and operation of a U-cut Christmas tree farm in the Sammamish Valley. She designed the family home that was built in 1962. She was an active member of the Latter Day Saints church. She served as a leader and teacher in the primary, Sunday school and Women's Relief Society. She was a volunteer worker in the Seattle Latter Day Saints temple for 13 years. She served a 14-month senior mission in the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, where she enjoyed teaching patrons how to use the computers to do genealogy. McMurtrey enjoyed and became proficient in painting and making quilts. She also enjoyed growing flowers and landscaping. She is survived by her husband Lawrence J. McMurtrey; sons Glenn McMurtrey of Honolulu, Hawaii, Gary W. He was 80. Born Feb. 24, 1921 in Prosser, he was the eldest son of Harvey and Amelia Rowan. The family moved to Hollywood Hill in Woodinville, and he graduated from Bothell High School in 1938. Rowan served in the Air Force in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed at Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle for 36 years as a pre-flight inspector. Harold Victor Schmidt, a resident of Bothell for 11 years, died of cancer May 25, 2001, at Franciscan Health Care in Bothell. He was 91. The Rev. Schmidt was born May 20, 1910, in Napoleonville, La. A Lutheran minister, he was a pastor in the Midwest for 23 years. His career included service in Flint, Mich., and Sheboygan, Wis., and also Hickory, N.C. The Rev. Schmidt was an avid reader and enjoyed studying church history. Survivors include his wife, Elsa; daughter Barbara Wegener of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sons Richard Schmidt of Woodinville and David Schmidt of Tacoma; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services have been held. Valma June Fjellanger Valma June Fjellanger of Bothell died May 24, 2001, at the Care Center at Kelsey Creek in Bellevue. She was 87. Mrs. Fjellanger was born April 30, 1914, in Euclid, Minn. In 1932, she graduated from high school in Watford City, N.D. She graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot, N.D., and became a registered nurse. On July 13, 1940, she married Alfred M. Fjellanger. They lived in McKenzie County, N.D. In 1941, after the birth of their first child, they moved to Washington, settling near Lake Sammamish. Mr. and Mrs. Fjellanger worked in the Lake Washington Shipyards. They later moved to Kirkland, where she worked at Kirkland Dispensary. After the war, they moved to the Coal Creek area, now in Bellevue. In 1953, they bought a small truck stop and moved to High Point, and later added a motel to the truck stop. Mrs. Fjellanger continued to run the truck stop until the state purchased the land to build Interstate 90 in 1972. Mrs. Fjellanger moved to the Holly Hills neighborhood in Bothell and took a job as a unit secretary at Evergreen Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 1988. She was active in the Holly Hills Homeowners Association. Her family remembers her as a fiercely independent person who remained in her own home until five days before her death. Her son Duane died in 1959, and her husband died in 1965. Survivors include her son Lee; and four grandchildren. Services have been held. Steele spent three years in the Navy stationed in the Panama Canal fishing on the Admiral's barge. After marrying his wife in 1961, Steele moved to the Bothell area. For 25 years he worked as a supervisor for Metro Transit. He was active in Northshore Youth Soccer as past president and coach of the Leopards from the early 1970s through 1985. He coached one of the Northshore's first women's soccer team, the Rack-ups. He also enjoyed hunting and salmon fishing. Linda Sue Bailey Linda Sue Bailey, formerly of Bothell, died July 19, 2001. She was 43. She was born Feb. 26, 1958, in Kirkland to Amy and Kenneth Bailey of Bothell. She was a part of a pioneering family that originally settled in the town of Grace during the 1800s. At the turn of the century, her ancestors moved to Bothell, where they were able to get electricity. Bailey lived her entire life in Bothell with the exception of the past two years, which she spent living in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Sere Gouy; sons Jeremy and Hollan; daughter-in-law Vanessa; granddaughters Alycia and Amber; brother Gordon; and sisters Diane and Kenna. Services have been held. Anne Paris Garson Anne Paris Garson of Sebastopol, Calif., died July 23, 2001. She was 77. She was born in Calcutta, India, to G.M. ``Jerry'' and Carolyn Lee Paris. In 1944, she married Sherman Victor Garson at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Seattle. Her husband was sent to Hawaii/Pacific Theater until the end of World War II. She was employed at the Bothell Medical Clinic and her husband started the GARIS Company doing metallurgical work for various manufacturing companies. The couple raised their four children in southern California, after which she completed her bachelor's degree in journalism. After retiring from 25 years of service to the state of California, plus five years with the federal government, she devoted her life to tireless volunteer work. She was an avid athlete, having competed in many golf tournaments and masters distance swimming competitions. She had a great love for music and the arts and she was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and writing original compositions and musical comedies. She was also a writer, writing columns for the Northshore Citizen and articles for The Sonoma West sports section. She also enjoyed gardening. After her husband's death, she moved back to the Northwest where she and her sister-in-law, Judy, helped her brother win a seat in the Washington State House of Representatives in 1989, and cared for her stepmother, Mary Paris, who died in 1992. She is survived by her children, Gary Garson of Abilene, Texas; Gail Alioto of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Glen Garson of Garden Grove, Calif.; and Grant Garson of Sebastopol; daughters-in-law, Judy Garson and Melody Garson; brother Marshall Paris and wife Judy of Bothell; friend Polly Goring Hopkins of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and her ``adopted'' son, Jorge Garcia. Following graduation from Bothell High School in 1967, Mr. Coleman enlisted in the Army, earning the rank of Private First Class before being discharged in 1971. Mr. Coleman was employed as an auto mechanic and his interests included Harley Davidson motorcycles. A funeral service has been held. No burial will be held. Raymond D. Normile Raymond Davis Normile of Kenmore died July 14, 2001, at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. He was 89. Mr. Normile was born May 4, 1912, on his family's farm in Purcell, Kan. When he was 14, his family moved west along Route 66 to settle in Aberdeen. He was a graduate of Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He played football at Grays Harbor Community College and transferred to Central Washington University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He taught in Benton City and later became a teacher, coach and principal at Kennewick High School for nine years. At Kennewick, he met the woman who would become his wife, Lorene Belair. They were married for 62 years. In the fall of 1942, they moved to New York so he could earn a master's degree at Columbia University. Mrs. Normile took a job to supplement his income as a teacher and coach at Passaic Valley High School in Little Falls, N.J. That year, he led the school's football and basketball teams to state championships. He returned to Kennewick in 1943 to take a position as principal and basketball coach, leading the team to its first state tournament in 1944. After a stint of military service during World War II, Mr. Normile took a job at Queen Anne High School, teaching boys' health and Washington history and coaching basketball, football, baseball and track. During his 21 years as head coach, the Queen Anne basketball team finished in the upper division 12 times and earned its only place in the state tournament in 1965. After his retirement, he enjoyed teaching driver's education and golf. Survivors include his son, David Normile; his daughter, Sherry Normile-Isenhath; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service has been held. He was the last of five siblings born to Frances and Jessie Normile on their Purcell, Kansas farm. The Kansas farm was home through age 14, where he attended the one-room schoolhouse named after the Normile Family. In Jan. 1927, the family left Kansas for Aberdeen, Wash. He played football, basketball, track and made all conference in football at Weatherwax High School. His college years began at Grays Harbor Community College where he was transferred to Central Washington University earning a work scholarship. There he lettered in football and basketball playing for the legendary coach, Leo Nicholson. His first teaching/coaching position upon graduation in 1936 was at Benton City High School and a year later he moved to Kennewick High School to coach and teach for the next nine years. There he met Lorene Belair, his wife of 62 years. In the fall of 1942, the couple headed to New York's Columbia University where he earned his master's degree. While attending Columbia, he coached and taught at Passaic Valley High School in Little Falls, N.J. That year he led Passaic to state in football and basketball. They returned to Kennewick High School in 1943, where he accepted the job as principal and head basketball coach. Under his leadership, Kennewick went to their first state tournament in basketball. He left Kennewick to enter service for World War II. When the war ended, Ray and Lorene moved to Seattle as Queen Anne High School became his home for the next 21 seasons. There he coached football, basketball, baseball and track. 2001-10-25 Earl W. MacRobert died Oct. 13, 2001, in Bothell. He was 91. He was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Seattle to Thomas MacRobert and Annie (Parker) MacRobert, and grew up in Rainier Beach. He attended Franklin High School and joined the National Guard shortly thereafter. During the Great Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. During the 1930s he learned the craft of printing. Upon the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Army-Air force, serving as a printer for its duration. Immediately after the war, he went to work as a printer for Safeco Insurance, a job he held until his retirement in 1973. He was a talented musician, playing seven instruments and was a member of the Salvation Army Marching Band. He loved hiking, camping and rock hunting. He was also an avid reader and punster and loved word play. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara MacRobert. Viola Barnard Wooton Viola Barnard Wooton of Kirkland, formerly of Bothell, died of cancer Sept. 16, 2001, in Woodinville. She was 82. Mrs. Wooton was born May 2, 1919, in Blackfoot, Idaho. She graduated from Blackfoot High School, then worked for the local telephone company and a local doctor's office. She married Marlow V. Wooton Oct. 20, 1939. They lived in Blackfoot; Layton, Utah; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Clarkston; Long Beach, Calif.; Sumner; Salinas, Calif.; Garden Grove, Calif.; and Bothell. She served in the Relief Society Association of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked at Ostrom's Drugs in Kenmore. Mrs. Greytak was born Aug. 11, 1947, in Valley City, N.D. She had lived in King County for 39 years. She was employed as an executive assistant with the Seattle company Seattle's Best. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and North Hill Christian Church in Spokane and Wild Women of Work book club. She volunteered for United Way and was a supporter of Planned Parenthood, local schools and drama clubs. She was a lifelong advocate for peace. At his request, no services will be held. 2001-10-18 Grace J. Hurd died Oct. 9, 2001, in Kirkland. She was 85. She was born to David and Esther Jones Dec. 4, 1915, in Moorhead, Minn. She graduated from Moorhead Teachers College and was a fifth and sixth grade teacher. After she was married and had children, she returned to teaching as a substitute, mostly in the Crown Hill and Ballard area elementary schools. She was active in PTA at Crown Hill Elementary, Ballard High School, and chaperoned school trips, ski school, and other activities. For many years she was a hostess at the Tea Room at Frederick and Nelson department store in downtown Seattle. She loved to dance, and with her husband Bob, was a member of the Starlighters formal dance club. She was a member of the 11th Church of Christ, Scientist. She also enjoyed camping and hiking with her family. During her later years she was an active volunteer and member of the Northshore Senior Center, where she was chairman of the walking group. She traveled widely, often with her many friends from the Northshore Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Robert G. Hurd and son, David J. Hurd. She is survived by son Douglas R. Hurd of Spokane and daughter Sandra H. Borgman of Bothell. Grace L. Beetem Grace L. Beetem of Bothell died Oct. 8, 2001, at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 90. She married Arden Dayton in 1929 and had two children. In 1944, she married O.E. (Charlie) Stephens. After his death in 1965, she taught cosmetology at Excelsior Youth College in Aurora, Colo. Upon her retirement in 1979, the school, a federal facility, named a newly finished building the Grace L. Beetem Building, in honor of her achievements. In 1980, she married Harold E. Beetem. The couple moved to Yuma, Ariz. and became active travelers in their motor home with the Cactus Campers. They relocated to Bothell in 1989. They continued their travels to such places as Yellow Knife in the Yukon Territory, Australia and New Zealand. She was preceded in death by husband, retired Air Force Maj. Harold E. Beetem, and son Ronald A. Dayton. She is survived by daughter Faye Swanson; son-in-law D. She married Robert Eriksen in 1943 in Portland, Ore. She worked at Jansen Woolen Mills in Portland making sweaters and silk parachutes for GIs during World War II. She also was a Sheldon High School salad chef for 20 years until her retirement in 1981. Over the years, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing, bowling and playing pinochle. She won an Evergreen State Fair drawing for four tickets on Alaska Airlines to visit Alaska for two weeks in 1989. She also enjoyed watching baseball, from Mariners games to those played by her sons and grandsons, her family said. Her husband of 53 years died in 1996. Roks worked in within the international banking community, which allowed him to travel all over the world. He relocated to Redmond in 1990. From then until his retirement, he continued to work in the banking industry with Seafirst Bank in downtown Seattle. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bike riding and traveling. He spoke seven languages. He is survived by his wife, Grace Francis-Lau; children Olga, Cornelis Jr., Karen, Beverley, Christine and David; and eight grandchildren. Memorial services have been held. Celestine-Egawa, formerly of Woodinville, died Oct. 2, 2001, at the Little Bear Creek Assisted Living facility on the Lummi Indian Reservation near Bellingham. She was 85. She was born Oct. 27, 1915 on the reservation and was one of seven children born to Francis and Aurelia Celestine. She attended Chemawa Indian Boarding school in Salem, Ore., and later moved to Seattle, where she met her husband Fred Y. Egawa. After World War II, the couple moved to Woodinville, where they made their home and raised their three children. They also lived in Portland, Ore., Suquamish and Mill Creek. After the death of her husband, she moved back to her home at Lummi. She enjoyed working with young people and was one of the first mothers to work with the Cub Scouts in the Cottage Lake area. She also devoted much of her time working with the PTA at Woodinville Elementary. She enjoyed doing stitchery work and was an excellent pastry maker, which was her profession. She is survived by her children Marie, Fred Jr. (Marie), and Jim Egawa (Kris); grandchildren Litonya (Richard), Chenoa, Keith, Teresa, Kenneth, Aaron, David, and Donald (Chris); and great-grandchildren Kyle, Andrew and Chantell. Memorial services have been held. Martha C. Prater Martha C. Prater, known by many as Aunt Martha or Aunt Marcy, died Sept. 26, 2001. She was 85. She was born Jan. 11, 1916, as Martha Vacknitz in South Dakota, the first of 17 children. She married Dean Prater in 1932 and moved to Seattle. The couple purchased an acre of land in the Moorlands in 1939, where they built a home and raised three children. Prater spent 30-plus years preparing and serving meals for the children at Kenmore and Arrowhead elementary schools. Children, teachers and delivery men remember not only Prater, but her special peanut butter cookies and cinnamon rolls. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by sons Calvin (Amedee) of Wenatchee and Glen (Pearl) of Shoreline; daughter Andrea of Edmonds; two brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. At her request, no services will be held. Janet Nims Janet Nims, a longtime Bothell resident, died Oct. 4, 2001. She was 87. Born Nov. 24, 1913 in Snohomish to James and Jane Porter. She attended school in Snohomish and later graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in dietetics and home economics. Nims, along with her husband Bruce, owned Nims Electric, a longtime business in Bothell. She was a member of the Bothell Historical Society and the Bothell Garden Club. She was preceded in death by husband Bruce and daughter Nicolyn Parsons. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Don Sparling of Seattle; son-in-law Steve Parsons of Sunnyvale, Calif.; grandchildren Matthew Sparling, Bruce Parsons, Susan Ress; niece Jane Turner; and nephew James Taylor. He was born in Elma 1914 and was one of eight children. Bill had been a Bothell resident for 27 years. He and his wife, Johanna, recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. The couple had owned a Snoqualmie TV business for 38 years -- until 1974 -- when they took over as managers of Green Acres Mobile Home Park in Bothell. The couple had six children, Kathie, Bobbie, Ed, Jack, Eileen and Dottie. Memorials are suggested to be sent to Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland. Elizabeth Poessinger Elizabeth Poessinger of Bothell died Dec. 29, 2001, in Bothell. She was 91. Born Jan. 2, 1910, in Murnau, Germany, she came to the United States in 1954. She attended night school to learn English, and became a citizen in 1959. She, along with her daughter and son-in-law, started the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Kenmore. Mrs. Poessinger was known as ``Oma'' to customers who frequented the Bavarian-style restaurant during its heyday. Survivors include her daughter, Hildegard McKissen of Bothell; foster daughter Ursula Paar of Kirkland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private service has been held. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Vern Irwin Miller Vern Irwin Miller, a longtime Woodinville resident, died Jan. 4, 2002. He was 88. He was born Nov. 26, 1913, in Seattle and graduated from Bothell High School in 1932. He was an active member of the local community and owned and operated a vegetable farm in the Sammamish Valley for more than 30 years. He was an avid supporter of local sports and Husky football and founded Little League Baseball in the Bothell area in 1953. He is survived by his wife, Letha; brother, Bart; sons, Jack and Jerry; four granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Children's Orthopedic Hospital or a favorite charity. Elsie J. Oliver Elsie J. Oliver of Kenmore died Dec. 30, 2001, in Edmonds. She was 93. She was preceded in death by husband Herbert E. Oliver and son Ronald Oliver. She is survived by son Don (Nancy) Oliver of Kenmore; daughter-in-law Pat Oliver of Tacoma; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Jane Kelley. Rosemary Sherwin Rosemary Sherwin of Mill Creek died Dec. 26, 2001. She was 92. She was born April 27, 1909, in Elizabeth, N.Y. and lived in the Bothell/Mill Creek area for the last 20 years. She worked for Todd Naval Shipyard in Long Beach, Calif. before moving to the area. She was a member of the Northshore Senior Center and attended the Kenmore Eagles. She loved painting and pottery. She is survived by son Gordon (Sharon) Kirshman; grandchildren Lori, Karen, Jeff, Gary, Curt, and Kim; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters Jenny Johnston and Ethel Folts. Services have been held. Erich Brian Jensen Erich Brian Jensen of Bothell died suddenly at home Dec. 29, 2001. He was 19. He was born June 19, 1982, in Seattle. He is survived by parents Dale and Anita Boyd and Brian Jensen; sister Erin Jensen of Bothell; grandparents Marguerite Boyd of Seattle, Melva and Albert Cominitti of Edmonds, and Harold and Arlene Jensen of Edmonds; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. Services have been held. 2001-12-20 Maxwell H. Logsdon Maxwell H. Logsdon of Bothell died Dec. 10, 2001, of lymphoma cancer at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. He was 74. He was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Seattle. He served as radio operator in the Merchant Marines and was a boilermaker and sheet metal worker. He graduated from the University of Washington and taught at Madrona Junior High School. The Logsdons purchase the Keener Building in 1976 and remodeled it to accommodate many businesses, including the family business, Logsdon's Apparel and Hairstyling. During Christmas, Logsdon would play Santa in the Logsdon's Children Department. He was very involved in the Downtown Revitalization Program that saw many changes in the Main Street lighting and parking. Logsdon spent the last few years in Vaughn on his property and the adjoining 35-acre family forest, where he spent hours on his tractor building trails and reforesting the land. He liked being called the ``Gentleman Forester.'' His son will be building a Max Logsdon Memorial trail. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Lynn); son Dwight Alan Logsdon; daughter-in-law Paula Logsdon; grandchildren Marcus and Cheree; brother Donald Logsdon; and half-brother Tommy Logsdon. He was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a Korean War veteran, member of the 179th regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. He was a Master Craftsman for more than 40 years. He is survived by his wife Janet; sons David and Steven (Nancy); and grandchildren Danielle, Cory and Hannah.
